My RG Idol was a great ball for me (speed 16-17 mph; 275-300 revs) on a medium oil THS. If I missed left (I'm a righty) it would hold pocket. If I missed right to the dry it would scream back to the pocket. The carry was outstanding.
Unfortunately, it completely cracked at the 11 month mark. My PSO told me I could have any of the three Idol's as a replacement. I chose the Idol Pro since it was just released. I have been disappointed with the performance when measured against my previous Idol. Frankly, the carry on the Idol Pro is lousy, again when measured against the Idol
Each ball had the same layout (pin above the ring finger). I changed the surface from OOB 3000 sheen to 2000 (TruCut), but didn't see much if any improvement.
For those who have both, what are your experiences? Suggestions?

The Idol Pro is weaker than the Idol and doesn't blend the lane front to back as well. You could try more surface to get it to blend the lane more. My opinion, the Pro is better for more blended situations and the original is best suited for blending wet dry or controlling the friction when there's a ton of volume upfront.

Two completely different balls. You can tell that they both have the same core, but those coverstocks are so far apart that your struggles with the Pro relative to the original aren't a surprise.
If sticking with it is an option go even lower on the grit. 1000 at the most. Though even if that works you're going to have to stay on top of the surface maintenance every time you want to use.

Thank you to 2handedrook12 and CoorZero for your comments. They make sense. I will try a 1000 grit. Hopefully it will improve the performance.
I'm still open to anyone else who can comment, maybe Luke R. because he has thrown both.
I may have to retire the Pro from the house shot I normally bowl on and invest in another original Idol as I know that ball works great for me.
