Rogue Cell/Mars Review
« on: February 21, 2009, 10:35:05 AM »
Well team I was able to attend a Roto/Storm Demo day today at Saint Charles Lanes. They had a house shot put out, with 3 sessions a 1 pm, 2pm, 3pm. I bowled the 2pm slot. There was no scoring accounted for, it was just people shooting on lanes for an hour and they had about 8 lanes blocked off for the event. They had about 8 of each ball there.. They had the VG, Hyroad, Second Dimension, Dimension, Rogue Cell, Mars, and Cell Pearl.

Rogue Cell: I threw this ball in a few different layouts. I never got a really good read out of any of them, it was just like the original cell in my hands, but did turn over with more authority, but not what I expected. I tell you this though, there is a great deal more of continuation through the rack then the original cell. I threw pin over ring, pin under ring, pin under bridge, and pin over bridge layouts, all with markings kicked out to make the ball agressive. Imagine the cell with a board or two more on the backend, and you got a Rogue Cell. The ball picked up later on the lane then the original cell, and did have a similar backend to the Cell Pearl.

Mars: This will probably the best selling ball for RG when it is released. I tried this ball in multiple layouts, and every one rolled consistent, and finished very hard. It seemed to look like an Grand Illusion with more pop and a knack to ignore carry down. I was surprised at how well this ball recovered from botched shots on the outside, and held its own in the oil when shots were tugged inside. Very nice piece from the rotogrip camp. I really like the roll of the pin under bridge layout, very solid and consistent. For around 99.99, this will be the best thing smoking, this ball will be a THS dream for the every day league bowler.

Summary: If you liked the original cell, but wish it had a little bit more pop on the backend, the Rogue Cell is exactly what you will need, hands down. If you are looking for that go to ball out of your bag when you need to read the lanes, and need a predictable reaction... The Mars should be in your bag.

Note: I am a medium rev, medium speed player, mid track. Results will vary by player type, this is just what I saw while throwing the balls.

I'm not sure if you could tell from this lane condition and the little time you had with it, but would you say the Mars is a medium, maybe med-light oil ball?  FWIW, the way you describe it sounds a lot like my Avalanche Solid.

I would definately say it is a med-light oil ball, and also about it being like an avalanche, it did roll similar. Less up front, more backend, and more pop though.

Nice review.  Just curious, was that demo day in St. Charles, Missouri?

Saw the rogue in action it would fit below the cell and above the pearl. It will be the most versitle ball out now by RG
