Picked up a NIB Roto Grip Mercury last year and have not drilled it. Looking for useful info from those who have thrown the Mercury as to what conditions they have thrown it on and how it worked for them. When I bought the ball I planned to have it drilled up to throw on dry to med light oil lanes.

I has about the same drilling. It is a pretty awesome ball. Actually pretty smooth and strong. Great on THS up the boards or you can swing it on light oil.

Thanks for the replies, looking to have a ball that would fit right were Locke was playing the Mercury.
Got the day off, planning on having it drilled today.

I really liked my Mercury. Won alot of side pots with it but got teased by my fellow team mates about the color.

my old merc was smooth and strong for a lite oil ball,carry was very good,don't drill it strong.

Got the Mercury drilled yesterday, explained to my driller the reaction I wanted from this ball. What I got was exactly what I asked for, threw a practice game with it, the lanes where leftovers from the previous nights league so it was a good test of the conditions I would use it on. Started up the 10 board and the ball made a nice arc to the pocket, left a 10 pin, second and third balls left 10 pins, moved in 4 boards and swung it out to the 7 board and bingo run off 4 in a row. My driller had never seen a Mercury before as other than the Cell there has not been a lot of Roto Grip balls being thrown in our area.
Just wish I had taken the time to have this drilled up earlier.

It is a great ball. And like most Roto stuff it will last forever. Mine is going on 3 years of use. I actually use it as a spare ball on heavier oil and as my light oil ball so it sees a lot off use and its still going strong.

Was a good ball but not great. Hit like a marshmellow much of the time but loved the smooth flip reaction. Good for dry lanes but if you have higher revs you may have to play very deep on dry lanes but still gets down the lane better. I gave it away and replaced it with a Mars which even though stronger think it's more versitile and hits harder.

The Mercury had the stronger Orbiter core, versus the Orbiter II in the Mars, but a weaker coverstock. That worked out about the way you would expect. Since coverstock is about 80% of the ball''s reaction, the Mercury is the better choice for lighter oil.

I actually found that this ball hits hard and carries well so far in my first few games with it, definitely not a marshmallow. I would imagine just like any other ball what works well for me may not for you.

After throwing my Mercury the last 3 weeks I am really kicking myself for not drilling it up earlier. The center I bowl at is putting out a shorter lower volume pattern and I was struggling to find a way to consistently carry and not go through the nose. Last three weeks I have averaged 219 with only one game under 200 and that was a 192. Definitely worth a look for those of you looking for a ball for lower volume shorter patterns.

Yup! That sounds like the Mercury to me.
I have mine drilled "5.5 x 5", pin over bridge. Great ball for dry lanes!
