Rotos strong assy cores

just don't seem to match up to my roll.  The Battle was pretty good but nothing spectacular and the Odyssey and Quest didn't impress me at all.

I was watching one of our better high school bowlers on Saturday.  He has an Epic Saga and it really looks good in his hands.  Our rev rates are similar, as is our spans, but his speed is a 1/2 mph slower.  The main difference I see is he tilts the ball considerably more than I do.  The backend motion for him is superb with the Saga.  I gave him the Quest tonight, we put the surface at 500 plus polish.  I can't wait to see him throw it.

I am certainly not bashing Roto, I really love the Helios core that is in the Mystic, Horizon Solid, etc.  It just seems the assy cores don't work for me.

Andrew,

Your specs are similar to mine, especially your axis rotation.  I have a higher rev count but not by much anymore  As you noted, the Maximus II core is extremely strong.  Very fast spin time and with a low RG and strong cover , makes it rev up even faster.  It took me a few Odysseys to find a match.  I've found with the Maximus II, I had to lower the MB angle and go with a longer pin.  The last two I've drilled the MB angle was closer to 60* with the pin 5.5 and 6.25".  Much better matchup and now the Odyssey is one of favorites.

Just something to consider if you decide to every give it another try.  However, the Cell has a different asymmetrical core and rolls extremely well.  Completely different look than the Odyssey.  I don't think you'll have trouble matching up to that one.

Last night in league I bowled against a guy throwing the Epic Saga.  He had soft speed and a lot of tilt, and he had a ridiculous amount of room to find the pocket with pretty good carry.  The ball looked really nice.

I haven't thrown any Roto since the Sonic-X which I still love, but the Cell has peaked my interest.

Since the Cell has higher RG you should notice a bigger difference when moving the MB around when compared to the Epic line cores, which are low RG.

The kid shot 789 with it the first three games he used it.  It just looks 120% better in his hands than mine.  Now the BW Bite is a good fit for my roll.

Don't forget that the BW's have a much lower MB ratings than the RG balls - .012-.014. That means the final drill is less sensitive to changes in release. That's a big factor in using high MB balls.
