Rouge Cell and Cell Pearl drilled the same
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:25:56 AM »
How would a Rouge and a Pearl match up if they were both drilled similar? I have a Pearl drilled 5x3 and love it. The only problem is that I struggle early in tournaments when the Pearl starts too late. I need something that starts a little earlier but every time I drill an "oiler" it burns up and hits like marshmallow.

I love the shape and reaction of the Pearl and I was thinking that if a Rouge was drilled similar it would have the same shape and reaction to it but it could handle more oil.

Any thoughts?

Mine are drilled different but I can see where if the two are dilled the same you could go from one to the other and see the same shape.

My Rogue Cell and Cell Pearl have the same exact layout, pin above bridge 5.5" from pap, MB about 2" right of thumb, no balance holes.

I get a similar reaction between the two.  The Rogue is a little smoother off the break because of the duller surface but the overall reactions are very similar.

I totally recommend drilling them the same.

From everything I've seen, the Rogue would probably do just fine in the situation you describe however, if you want to fall on the side of caution, don't rule out the possibility of drilling the original cell. It's not going to be as sharp off the spot as the Rogue or Pearl, but that ball certainly isn't a burn-at-your-feet oiler.

the rogue will give you a similar look from the cell pearl just a little sooner on the lane, if it dosnt give you what your looking for, try a original cell solid but polish it, ive had success with the cell with polish and it works well on it

uwecbowler:

Why would you want the same core drilled the same, even if the covers are different?  What are you trying to achieve in ball motion?

I was thinking of drilling them the same because I love the Cell Pearl but it just starts late on some fresh shots. I like the energy retention and power of the Nucleus core and rather than trying a different core, I want to keep the same core but a different cover.

As I said in my first post, I have no luck with true "oilers." My Dimension is a big disappointment and I need something that can handle a little more oil. I was hoping that by drilling a Rogue 5x3 it would keep some energy for down lane, like my Pearl, but start a little sooner to handle to fresh oil.

Wait a minute...there's a contradiction here.  You want something to handle oil yet you state in your last post "it would keep some energy for down lane".

You don't want a downlane release of energy for oil...you want it starting early and being continuous.

Since your profile only contains speed and not rev rate, we're going to need more info to help you out.  If you don't know your RPM, tell us who on tour, or a well known amateur, has a rev rate like yours.  Also, would you say you are speed dominant or rev dominant?

From there we can better give you advice so you don't make a $220 mistake.

Here's where I'm getting at once the lane transitions, balls drilled the same, with the same core, act the same for the most part-even with different covers/surfaces, because the STRENGTH is still the same.  I'd hate to have you drill a Rogue and have it be just a little different.  Let's make them work off each other so you have a LOGICAL two-ball arsenal to accomplish what you're looking for.

Steve,

I said down lane energy release because it seems like everytime I drill a strong ball to roll early, it burns up.

As far as rev rate, I would say its like Duke no where near a power player but still with a little something on it. I would have to say that I am more speed dominant as well. Usually, I have a very relaxed release and change speed easily. But if needed, I can turn it more or have more forward roll, depending on conditions.

If you think a Rogue and Pearl drilled the same would be too similar, what about drilling a Rogue pin down? That way I would have the Rogue pin down and the Pearl pin up.

Steve, he's trying to achieve a similar ball motion but for heavier oil.  I think its a great idea

Steve, if he gets on a pair of lanes and the Cell Pearl goes too long, then he can make an easy switch to the Rogue and have that similar ball motion.

Yeah. I think it was "some" energy down lane. I believe he was comparing it to his Dimension, which he said was a disappointment. Something that does roll earlier, but also retain a bit of a pop at the back.

I understand what uwecbowler wants, but I understand what Steve is saying as well.

If you want that SAME look, but a little sooner, I'd feel mor comfortable maybe leaning towards:
A)  An original Cell drilled the same...
~OR~
B)  A Rogue but go 4 1/2 x 3 ......
