RST X3 Review
« on: August 09, 2022, 01:58:22 PM »
Layout: 30 x 4.5 x 30
Surface: 1000 Grit Abralon

The new RST X3 has been great for me in the first week having the ball.  Sport shot league and a PBA Regional has really given me great ball reactions to help me score well.  I put it to 1000 grit abralon to give me a ball for the fresh that is cleaner then the Reality but can still dig into the midlane when there is more volume.  Even though the RST X3 is a hybrid with two parts pearl, it does not act like a pearl type hybrid at all.  Even at the box finish, the X3 hooks a lot sooner then the X2 and is more down lane then the X1.  At the 1000 grit finish, it would be best used on heavier oil and longer oil patterns.

Test Pattern:  PBA Don Carter Pattern

At 1000 grit abralon surface, I saw a lot of front hook and strong midlane read while still continuing well down lane.  What I like the most about it, is how consistent the ball reaction is.  Whether I am playing up the lane on the fresh or more left to right, I saw the same continuation which allowed me to stay using the ball for multiple games which for me is very tough for a 1000 grit ball.  As the lanes broke down, I was able to play 4th arrow with ease as long as I projected the ball to the 2nd arrow.  Throwing this ball up the lane wants to hook pretty soon which will make it a great fresh ball if you are in the market.

House Pattern Test:
At the 4k fast finish surface, this ball should be really good on the fresh as well as the first transition for most house patterns and your style.  If the X3 is too strong for the fresh, definitely bring the ball to a 2000 grit surface and then use Storm reacta shine to give you a more traditional skid/flip reaction.  I would use your favorite ball drilling for the best results!

The Roto Grip RST-X3 features the Micro Trak Hybrid Reactive cover, Roto Star Tour core, and comes at a 4-k fast finish. The X3 is the third ball in this line following the RST-X1 and RST-X2. Compared to both of those, the X3 feels like the strongest in the line and one of the strongest in the SPI catalog. The RST-X1 was strong but more of a controlled shape and the X2 is clean with more punch down lane. Now the X3 feels earlier and harder off the spot compared to those two balls. The shape is different as it gets the spot, goes left (like someone kicked it), and doesn't stop. The X3 forces me into the 4th/5th arrow on my house shot and sometimes it is just too much. I did get a chance to throw this ball on the challenge pattern "Great Wall of China/48ft" and it looked amazing. For me, this ball is going to require heavier oil and I think this ball will be good for speed dominant bowlers and lower revs players who need a ball that is going to hook.

RST X-3
Coverstock: Micro Trax Hybrid Reactive
WeightBlock: Asymmetrical
Finish: 4K Fast
Color: Yellow/smoke/grape
Review:
Roto Grip continues to produce RST bowling balls that have proven they can keep up with everything else in the line. This ball on its own stands out just because of the color but once you throw it a couple times you will quickly fall in love with the shape that this ball makes. After throwing it and changing the finish a little I have concluded that this ball is a great step down from my Gem. I get a similar shape with better backend motion once the carry down starts to happen. I found this ball to be great first out of my bag on the league shot during out second shift leagues. Make sure you grab yours as soon as they are available.

The RST X-3 is the newest HP4 line ball ball from Roto Grip. It has the proven RST Core and a version of MircoTrax Hybrid cover. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and after throwing this ball for awhile I completely fell in love with the shape this ball gave me. With the higher RG on this ball and the Fast 4K this ball did get down lane pretty easily and really didn’t lose any energy going through the pins. Also when I did miss in the oil with this ball it didn’t push too far, it still dug in and give me plenty of giddy up through the pins. Compared to my Infinite Physix which is drilled very similar, the RST was a bit cleaner and more angular down lane. If you are looking for that perfect transition ball after the bigger hook monsters or just looking for a bigger ball to give you some length and still have some big back end motion, you’re going to want to get this RST X-3.

Ball Review RST-X3, RG: 2.53 Dif: .053 Cover: MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive 4k Fast
PAP 5 1/8 over ¾ UP, Medium/Ball Speed Rev Rate 275-325 Layout: 4 x 4 x 1 ¾

Wow! This new addition to the RST lineup is a hook monster. I have become a big fan of hybrids and RST X3 is no exception. In my opinion I think this is the strongest hooking ball I have seen in a long time. The MicroTrax cover on the RST core responds very strong off the friction. The ball is smooth with a little length and a strong angular motion on the backend. This X3 hits like a truck. It picks up down lane and has strong continuation through the pins.
Even though it is strong off friction it doesn’t seem to overreact. If you need to move in and are looking for a ball to come around the corner and finish the X3 is the one! Might be the best RST yet!

The newest addition to the Roto Grip HP4 is the RSTx-3 this ball is the hybrid version. Compared to the x-2 this ball picks up much faster on higher volume of oil. I used 60 x 4.5 x 60 one my favorite layouts right now. If you're looking for a strong hybrid this is a great choice.
