RST X3 Review
« on: August 20, 2022, 05:59:26 AM »
The latest iteration of the RST series is the X3 which provides more of a dig in the mid lane versus the X2. The X3 is 2 part pearl 1 part solid and is designed for medium to heavier oil conditions.

Those looking for higher performance to combat heavier volume should find success with the X3. The X3 is the strongest of all the RST X line balls thus far and has been a staple in my bag since I had a chance to throw it. The nice part about this ball is the 2:1 ratio of pearl to solid as you have the opportunity to throw a stronger ball when the fronts might hook a little early which is a characteristic I see in a lot of the houses where I bowl. Due to the 2:1 nature I can still be in the stronger ball and see plenty of control, see the ball slow down enough down lane and still corner pretty hard. The X3 is suitable for all players of varying skill levels.

Roto Grip RST X3 Review by Lonnie Pemberton

Cover: MicroTraxâ„¢ Hybrid
Core: Roto Star Tour Core (RSTâ„¢ Core)
Finish: 4K FAST
RG: 2.55 (14lbs)
Differential: 0.053
PSA: .016

ME:
Right-Handed Tweener
Speed: 12-13 mph
Rev Rate: 315
PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin under bridge 4 5/8 X 5 1/4 X 5 VLS

The New RST X3 from Roto grip is the 3rd ball to feature the Roto Star Tour core. They matched up the RST core with a Hybrid MicroTrax cover finished at 4k fast which allows the ball to lane-shine very quickly, giving you a reaction similar to a polished ball.

I tested the RST X3 on our 43 foot higher volume house shot. My first time out with it I tried it the 3rd game of league night. The fronts tend to go away very quickly here and it didn't take me long to see that this was the wrong time to bring the X3 Out of the bag. The X3 is very dynamic when it sees friction and the early friction caused its strong move to happen too soon.

I next tested it on a much fresher version of the house pattern. I definitely see the X3 make a big move when you get it to the dry part of the lane. It was pretty handy dealing with carry-down because it would read and set so early it took the slow back-ends out of play much more. For a ball that gives you some mid-lane read it makes a pretty quick move in a small window. I feel like on a more medium pattern with cleaner backends the angles would probably need to be fairly steep and it does need some volume at the front of the pattern. Higher speed bowlers in particular will really be able to take advantage of it's dynamic motion.

Ball Review RST-X3, RG: 2.53 Dif: .053 Cover: MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive 4k Fast
PAP 5 1/8 over ¾ UP, Medium/Ball Speed Rev Rate 275-325 Layout: 4 x 4 x 1 ¾

Wow! This new addition to the RST lineup is a hook monster. I have become a big fan of hybrids and RST X3 is no exception. In my opinion I think this is the strongest hooking ball I have seen in a long time. The MicroTrax cover on the RST core responds very strong off the friction. The ball is smooth with a little length and a strong angular motion on the backend. This X3 hits like a truck. It picks up down lane and has strong continuation through the pins.
Even though it is strong off friction it doesn’t seem to overreact. If you need to move in and are looking for a ball to come around the corner and finish the X3 is the one! Might be the best RST yet!
