Drilling Question
« on: December 03, 2003, 12:20:52 AM »
My SS Pearl is drilled pin above ring finger about 4" above center of grip with a 4" pin-out and cg stacked straight down so mb is in the strong position. How would my reaction be affected by drilling my finger holes VERY deep. I have done this on an old amf angle and I think it revved quicker.

Yeah,  because I like balls that rev quicker I tend to on these large pin out balls put the cg a little below the grip center line.  About 1/2 inch.

This tends to get the ball to rev quick and then because of the long pin out also turn hard at the breakpoint.

Since that didn't happen sometimes a reduction in the fingerweight which would happen with a deeper finger holes and as a result increase in the thumb weight can help get the ball to roll earlier.  Rev earlier I don't know but skid less in the heads yes!!!  Thumb weight introduces earlier rolling.

Drilling the fingers deep with this type of layout may make the ball rev quicker for two reasons:

1.  You taking out finger weight/adding thumb weight which makes the ball roll earlier.  Static weights don't have a huge effect on the ball though.

2.  You to know that with the fingers being close to the pin, which is the top of the weight block, you are drilling out part of the that weight block.  This in effect, lowers the RG slightly, which makes the ball rev quicker also.

I drill the finger holes close to two inches deep for most all finger tip grips anyway.  Vice and Turbo grips are almost this long.

Hope this helps ya....
