Dark Star Review

Layout:
45 x 3 3/8 x 85
Hole 2 1/2 inches down VAL
Box Surface (1500 polished)


When laying the Dark Star out I was looking for something that would be very clean through the fronts without changing directions very quick off the dry so I could play a little straighter in league. I have used this layout before on a Mars and it worked really well, but was not quite strong enough for what I was looking for.

This ball turned out absolutely perfect! The first night in league I threw it I shot 248, 249, 259 for a 756 playing about 5 and 3 right of where I normally play in this center. The area that I had was absolutely ridiculous and the ball got through the pins so much better since I didn't have to use such wide angles through the fronts. Through the entire night I moved a total of 5 and 2 which is very little compared to the moves I normally make.

The Dark Star compliments the Nomad Series and Planet series very well. The Dark Star seems to match up better for higher rev players and for slower ball speeds. Another great release by Roto Grip!!

Right around 3 inches. Pretty much what I expected out of it.

Hey Jimmy.  Great review.  I'm curious about this ball compared to a Nomad Solid.  If the layout is the same on both, which one will react quicker off the dry?  I'm a high rev, medium speed player and throwing a FAST for the most part for my house shot (40').  I have a Mars but haven't been able to get comfortable with it on the house shot (70x4x55).  I'm looking for something I can start the night with and end the night with.  Have a Mutant, Brunswick CS 3.5, Brunswick Evil Siege, Mars, and FAST.  I am really intrigued by the Nomad Solid but I wanted to see the audience opinion on the Dark Star before I pulled the trigger.  Thanks.

The Nomad is going to react quicker off the dry for you.  It is a extremely high flaring core with a pretty strong cover.  Since you are a higher rev rate player I would lean more towards the Dark Star.  Also take a look at the Riot, I have 2 of them and I seem to be able to throw them on anything, the one i have at 1500 step 2 specifically.  Hope this helps.

Jimmy, based on what I am reading, it seems that a Dark Star drilled the same way as my Mars (4X4, box) should have a stronger finish on a medium house condition.  I am a medium slow stroker, 4 5/8 PAP.  Would it work even in the minors at the Nationals?  I also have a Mutant Cell (box, Nomad Solid (4000), and Nomad Pearl (box with extender) which I will be bringing to Reno.  Thanks for any help.

You are correct..  I have one drilled the same as one of my Mars 55*4*60 and they compliment each other well..
