Hy-wire vs Asylum
« on: November 15, 2016, 07:46:50 AM »
I want to know how much of a difference there is between these two balls. The Hy-wire comes with the 62M cover at 1500 grit polish, the Asylum is 63MH with a 3000 grit pad. So what are the differences between these two?

Asylum handles more volume of oil because of the stronger cover (Asylum 2 parts solid, 1 part pearl and dull finish), compared to the HyWire(2 parts pearl, 1 part solid and polished).

For me, the HyWire is closer to my Deranged, and the Asylum is closer to the Disturbed.

I have also changed surfaces on both balls, and the HyWire just seems to roll best polished, and the Asylum, dull. Just my experiences with these balls.

For the Asylum, what cover adjustment gives you the best look? I want to use it more but I just don't get a consistent reaction with it, so it has not seen a lot of action.

a green scotch-brite pad with light pressure, or grey scotch-brite pad with medium pressure, or 2000 abralon, all have seemed to give me the best reaction on the ball. Basically, just a touch more than the factory 3000 abralon.

For me, my Asylum is maybe a foot or two earlier than my Hy-wire but still has great continuation until I have to get too far left.  That's where the Hy-wire come in.  It opens the lane after transition better due to the cover difference.  Asylum is drilled straight up.  Pin over the bridge and cg in the palm.  Hy-wire is pin over the ring finger and cg in the palm.  Surface change on the Asylum with polish and a light 4000 pad by hand to knock it down a little.  No adjustment on the Hy-wire.
