Title: Suggestions on tweaking the arsenal
Post by: tommyboy74 on January 20, 2013, 03:35:55 PM
Roto Grip Kingdom (also cross posted to the Storm forum)- I'm looking for some good ideas here.  Right now, I have an 11 ball arsenal and am looking to trim it down and possibly add some new pieces to the mix.  Before I go any further, here are my stats:

Revs: 380-430
Speed: 19-22mph
PAP: 4-1/2 straight across, lower track
Style: Tweener.  A game is hard and playing outside but can move inside as needed.

My current arsenal is listed below:

Heavy: RG Defiant, RG Rogue Cell
Med-Heavy: Track 919C, RG Infinite Theory, Ebonite Vital Energy, RG Outlaw, Storm Hy-Road.
Medium: Track 505T, RG Nomad Dagger
Med-Light: Storm Frantic, Hammer Brick

I'm initially thinking to sell my Track 919C, Ebonite Vital Energy, and Hammer Brick as these balls tend to be more condition specific than I want.  Potentially I would also sell the 505T as my Outlaw seems to fill the gaps pretty well.

This is where you guys come in.  I would like to see what you can suggest to shrink down the arsenal and still round it out to cover all the bases.

Typically at one house where I sub, I bowl on the flood, so the Defiant, Rogue Cell and Infinite Theory will all see time on the lanes there.  At my normal house, I usually end up using the Infinite Theory or Outlaw to start, and then will go down to my Hy-Road, Nomad Dagger, or Frantic.  Sometimes the 505T will come out but tend to throw the Outlaw more.

Initially, I'm thinking of the Critical Theory or Lucid to round out the heavy oil arsenal.  Other than that, I'm open to any suggestions that you may have.

Defiant Soul. Punch on the end of the pattern.

The Critical Theory or a Defiant Edge would be what I would look at for your top end pearl - C/T will be more aggressive than the Edge. I would then either look at getting either a Rising Star or a Wrecker.

You didn't talk about your drillings which will be important but from a high level perspective you could go several directions.

You said:
Heavy: RG Defiant, RG Rogue Cell
Med-Heavy: Track 919C, RG Infinite Theory, Ebonite Vital Energy, RG Outlaw, Storm Hy-Road.
Medium: Track 505T, RG Nomad Dagger
Med-Light: Storm Frantic, Hammer Brick

Heavy: If you like your Defiant, the Soul is pretty close but will give you more punch on the backend.  You could drill it differently to get a complimentary look.  Lucid would be a good compliment on the top end as well under the Defiant.  The difference will be more obvious than Defiant vs Soul.

Med-Heavy: I would only keep 2 here.  Hy-Road is almost always a keeper.  I would keep whatever compliments it on the more aggressive side.  Sounds like you like your Infinite and Outlaw so pick one.  You can keep all three and keep the Nomad Dagger for Medium.
For med-light, Frantic is fine.  I like the Brick, but we found it more useful on med-heavy so not sure about what you want to do there.

I would suggest something for Light, something like a Freeze or Vibe.  Shatter could work here.

So that's:
Defiant, Lucid
Infinite Theory, Outlaw, Hy-Road
Dagger
Frantic
Shatter

8 balls is more than enough.  Probably 6 is good as well.  I gave a couple of other options above.

Good Luck!

Im going to be incredibly frank. 11 balls? Way too many, unless youre a high level amatuer bowling everything you possibly can. Now, if you have lots of disposable income, get as many balls as you wish.

Back to business, get rid of all those EBI balls, to be honest, 90% of their stuff rolls like dog ass. Toss it in your local resevoir. Also, look at reaction shapes, not "heavy oil, medium oil" etc.

With that said, id go:

Defiant
Lucid (if purchased)
Hyroad
Frantic
Outlaw
Shatter (if purchased)

TamerBowling: I plan to sell the Brick.  Even though it was recommended by my old driller and drilled weak, it just never matched up as well as I wanted it to.  I also tried a few different surfaces.  New driller thinks that I should have never bought it (or if I did, redrill it for medium-heavy).  That's where the Frantic came in when I did a 4 ball deal with sps300 on here (got the Infinite, Dagger, Frantic and Outlaw).  The Frantic has worked exactly as I wanted it to for medium-light since drilling it recently.

northface 28:  I'm planning on getting rid of the EBI stuff.  Part of it was that I was tweaking my game, and went up to 16lbs buying used.  I also wanted to experiment with some of the EBI stuff to see if I would like those lines more.  Turns out that Storm/Roto was always the better match.  The only EBI ball I actually did like was the 505T but almost always use the Outlaw at this point.

Thank you both for the suggestions.
