Thoughts on Halo solid?
« on: June 12, 2019, 01:19:05 AM »
Heavily considering putting my Halo up for sale. It's just not matching up with my low rev game... Maybe not enough oil in my area.  What is everyone else seeing?

It's a snowtire good for heavy oil and straighter angles.  Good for control.  Not the ball to bounce off the friction.  If you have low revs and are looking for downlane motion, the Halo isn't the ball for you.  Maybe try some shine?

Mine is pretty chuggy, with a smooth motion off the dry. It can't wheel, but mine has some nice backend motion and continuation. I generally find it best when keeping my launch angles tight, or blending over/under.

I wouldn't buy one because I already have enough large core big asym balls.

But my friends with low rev rates are doing pretty good with them, because we have a ton of oil on low friction surfaces on the high end or the house.  My other friends bowling the later squad on the low side of the house without a re-oil, their Halos are taking off on them and they don't have the speed to get it down lane further.

It's a big ball and that solid cover has big snow tires on it.
Sell it and get something else. Are you looking for a big ball to replace it with?

I have a Super Sonic that I use for Sport Patterns.
I can see toning the layout down to say a little pin strong (pin up above ring finger) and point the CG towards the thumb to mellow it out in the mid lane to use on a house shot. It's symmetric as well.

Halo is asym version of the Idol... I think I'll sell it, looking for either a Super Soniq, Roto Winner solid, or other strong sym.... I definitely do however, play straighter and tighter angles with speed around 14 off the hand.

The Super Sonic is pretty strong. If you kick the PAS out too far it will start up too early and die. But it grabs the back-end well and makes a reliable turn. That's why I said put the PAS on thumb or just outside it.

I know the Winner really hooks in the back, but I've never rolled one.

Luke has a video that shows the Super Sonic compared to the Idol Pearl. Forget which one it is. But the Idol Pearl was much stronger in the back than expected.
His wife's take on the ball.

I was going to buy the Idol Pearl but got the Astro PhsyiX instead. Might drill it up tonight.

I got the ball mainly for tourneys. But lately my summer league has been putting down some volume. I can use it to play up 5 or in that area with a straighter shot ( which I like)  Ball works well for me. Just shot a 300 with it last Wed.  To sum it up, if the volume is not there the ball will burn up. With oil it works very well. Again I got it for a reason. I am glad I did.

Nice job on the 300 game!
If you have the Halo and the volume is there, It's a great ball to have.

I was watching the PWBA last night in person, heavy volume tapered pattern at 37 feet, Kegel Terrain (29 ml total), and the girls started out with pretty much mid level asymmetric and symmetric balls like the Badger series, Idols and stuck with them for 8 games. One girl (first time, local from the house) tried a Halo and boy was that ball like jumpy (ball kept going through the nose in the last 2 feet)  and after the first 6 frames was over/under to extreme Brooklyn or short on the pocket.
