Dad's grenade is a hook monster
« on: February 15, 2015, 10:57:28 PM »
I am thinking about changing the surface on it. What is a good surface for urethane balls? I have never adjusted urethane before, and I am scared of killing it

He said it was his dad's ball.  Can we assume that Dad is a senior with decent hand but very low ball speed?   I have seen some seniors that have problems controlling their plastic balls on THS with ball speeds below 7mph (at the pin deck).

He is almost 50 but still in good shape. 14-14.5 mph at the end of the lane with average revs. I threw the ball, and I moved my feet right 5 boards from where I was throwing my a Primal Rage. He threw it roughly the same area where he threw his Tribal and it went Brooklyn. He has troubles with it in every house he tries to throw it. He even decided to play around with it and threw it from the next lane over and pitched it out to the 10 board at the break point, and it recovered.

There is an easy solution if he has trouble with it in every house he tries to throw it.

He has thrown it in 3 houses, with the same result in each one. Anyway, does anyone have an idea of where to start with the surface? I was thinking of trying either 4000 or 2000 with polish. He doesn't want to give up on the ball, but it seriously hooks as much or more than his resin equipment when he has enough backend that wants urethane.

A lot of urethane will come at 500 or so.  Going to 1000 or 2000 will be significantly different.

But if he has trouble with it everywhere he goes, then why throw it?

Factory surface is 2000, and he hasn't changed it, so I think it needs to go higher. He bought it to go under everything he has like urethane should, but it just doesn't work out. He can't believe urethane hooks that much, so he continually keeps trying to throw it. And he doesn't want to give up on it either.
