What is working for you?
« on: April 01, 2017, 07:07:53 AM »
I wanted to see what has been matching up with everyone this season. I struggled for some of the first half of this winter league season. But after picking up a few new pieces and using some older pieces I have stepped it up! So depending on the lane conditions what has been working for me are these -- Dare Devil -- Wreck-it -- Defiant Soul. All of these have really been rolling great for me. The biggest surprise lately has been my Wreck -it. I really didn't like it at first, but after a few cover adjustments I can't put it down because it's been rolling me some good scores! So what's been good for everyone else?

DV8 Freak Show Solid and Brunswick Absolute Nirvana, I've had some great looks on tougher shots in Vegas. There isn't really enough oil for me to use them in league

Is the freak show pearl just as good as the solid? I've always been more a fan of pearls

Surface. That's what working for me this year. Which is the opposite from last season. Polish was better the last few years but conditions have changed and I don't think it was entirely intentional. It's been weird and there are a lot of people struggling but whatever. I like it better than the same old easy shot year in and year out.

Specially I'm having a lot of success with my Mastermind Einstein. Hitting it with the 1500 Mirka pad every few games keeps the surface fresh and the ball just works. If needed I can go up to my Grudge Hybrid or down to my Diva XOXO. Those three balls are about all I use unless I feel like changing things up just for the sake of changing things up.

Been struggling with a lot of over under in this new house. Severe oil drop off at the 10 board.  Struggled with pearl, all season.   I have a lot of hand and like to turn the ball. Switched to a medium solid Storm Rockets Ship.  Drilled it pin down and sanded it to 1000.  Took a lot of hand out of the ball rolled it up the 8 board, avoiding squirrelly oil.  When that line burns up, I moved into the oil with the aggressive Storm Snap Lock.  Those changes put me closer to what I should be scoring.

Michael, the freak show pearl is a special pearl, I have it and it's a versatile ball that gives you a performance for such a entry level ball (so does the solid). It gives you a combination of midane roll, and angle on the backend, ball just works.

Comparing to the solid, it pushes downlane a few feet longer with a harder change of direction, but maintains a roll that you can see it rolling and continuing through the pins without going too sideways.

The solid version is picks up earlier, with a smooth controlled roll throughout, but needs oil in the fronts. It's earlier, a few boards stronger, but less less versatile and a smoother shape. Great 1-2 punch.

I posted this in Roto and not Misc because I was wanting to hear what R/G balls are working. But I still like hearing all of the feedback.

Good to know. I currently throw a no rules pearl and the dare devil trick. The trick is my heavy oil ball but I generally enjoy pearls because my game is all about controlled speed and accuracy so the pearls work nice for a lower speed bowler so they go further down the lane before breaking. I tend to avoid solids because they break too soon for me. I've been looking for something to slit below those balls for dryer lane conditions.

Then it would fit very well for you as I mentioned, strong midland roll, but still gives good length and a strong, but continuous backend.

Buddies has them on sale in their must go section; Get one before they go, A great bang for the buck, take my word for it.  :)

I guess my question then would be how does it compare to a dare devil?  $89 is cool but $50 to drill puts it at the same price as the dare devil
