Title: What replaces the Critical Theory?
Post by: duvallite on June 20, 2013, 06:26:43 PM
I didn't realize that the Critical Theory was discontinued.  Been thinking about one for a while, but never acted on it.  What ball that is still available now, RG or another brand, is the closest to the CT in both strength and angular backend reaction?

I got mine about 2 weeks ago at bowlerx.com.  However, they are very limited with stock now.  If you find one, get it.  Chances are you won't find another NIB if you don't.

Right now the lucid and the soul replace it.  Im sure there are one million and one reasons to disagree but all three pretty much overlap...but have unique characteristics that separate all them at the same time.

The Totally Defiant might also be a contender to replace it more closely. The school of thought being that the first two Defiants weren't pure reactives since Micro Bite is considered a particle additive...

If you can put any faith in the ball reaction diagrams on Roto's site, the Totally Defiant appears 4/2 weaker than a Defiant Soul and seems like it would pick up the breakpoint closer to the end of the pattern.  The Defiant Soul being a few feet earlier...

My opinion, Lucid is the closest. CT was one of the best balls of its period and matched up well to a lot of bowlers, myself included. Discontinued way too soon. Price point may have been a factor as the Theory line sole for 20-40 dollars less than Storm's high end balls. If you noticed, once the Defiant line came out, the price jumped up to be comparable to Storm high end.

RG has an international ball called the Impact Theory which appears to be the same ball as the CT. Exception is that it comes polish where the CT was at 4000 out of the factory. Striking colors too.

Well if utah is using their brains...there should have been a seamless transition of ct to a defiant line ball with a 4000 abralon finish pearl without polish.

Maybe j_mac is on to something. ..maybe the totally is the replacement...?

The Soul is pretty close to the CT, might be a tad earlier.  Haven't rolled the Lucid personally, so I can't say about it.

According to David Lee Roth an original cant be replaced! --- joking aside I don't think you will be able to replace this ball. This ball, I believe is in a class by itself. Possibly the Totally will be close, but we don't know yet. I would try to find a C/T if you can, fortunately I have 2.

You may want to check and post in the buy/sell forums on here.  Sometimes you can find a C/T available.  It's not often, but you may find one.

Audric is a class act!!!  What a pleasure to do business with!!!!

Thanks for going to all the trouble to grab the Critical Theory and send it to me so quickly.  Can't wait to punch it up and fit it into my arsenal.
