what surface to use on my neptune?
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:03:17 PM »
Hi everyone, I just bought a used neptune with very few games on it and I will be getting it plugged here shortly and redrilled to fit my hand. Well, I don't have any abralon pads at the moment, but I do have 800, 1k, 1.5k and 2k sand paper. I will be getting some storm extra shine and probably some Beans secret sauce as well to go with some storm diamond gloss that I have. I am wanting my neptune to go longer on drier lanes, but still have some pop on the backend. What surface do you guys think I should use on my neptune? Stats are in profile

Is the sandpaper graded with a "P" in front of the numbers or not?

If not, I'd use the 1.5K and the XTra SHine or 800 grit and Secret Sauce as an initial attempt. I say that because Beans is more aggressive than Xtra SHine. If neded, then try a 2nd stronger dose of the polish you used.

If you need still more length, try 2K sandpaper + Secret Sauce. Be careful because this will need a LOT of dry.

Yes, the sand paper does have a "p" infront of the numbers. What about starting at 1k and using the extra shine? Now I am not sure of this, but is the secret sauce a gritless polish? I know the diamond gloss and extra shine are gritted.

The Secret Sauce does contain an abrasive in it. I feel it is more aggressive than Xtra Shine and smooths out the sanding lines more. P1000 is equivalent to 500 grit US scale. That plus SS  should be good also. Because SS is more aggressive than Storm's XS, I'd suggest P1000 + SS OR 800 grit US (light grey nylon pad) + Xtra Shine as an initial step.
