Arsenal coming around...
« on: February 22, 2007, 07:09:15 AM »
Now with the inclusion of the newer stuff, I have a pretty complete arsenal.  It's looking very good with a variety of covers and cores, especially including the low end pieces which I needed to round out my arsenal.  I'll have some time over the next few weeks to get in a lot more games and also hopefully some video.  Need to tweak a few of them.  Of course I'll be adding a few more balls with specialty drills (i.e 0* layouts and 6" layouts) but as a core arsenal this  looks pretty good.

Heavy - Odyssey
Haven't had a chance to throw it but I changed the layout a little to see if I could get a better match to the core. Weaker pin but with stronger MB.  Threw an Epic with similar layout and it reacted very well.  Not too strong off the dry but enough to really open them up when the pattern is longer

Med/Heavy - SD-73
1000 grit plus polish. Still very strong solid that's been my main piece right now since I can do so much with it. Probably the 2nd most versatile piece in my bag.  Will definitely be getting another with a longer pin.

Med/Heavy - Mystic
Threw it polished and the roll is something I've been looking for. Good length but a smoother move off the dry than the Horizon Pearl.  Still very strong though.  I needed something with a smoother move downlane and this may fit the bill.  I've since sanded it to 2000 to get it even smoother but still I need to play with it some more.  Particle has always been a necessity in my arsenal because of the amount of side rotation I have and frequency of wet/drys I encounter.  Great read and I love the color combo!

Medium - Horizon Pearl
The longest in my bag (since May 06) and it's the most versatile.  I've used it on so many different surfaces and volumes.  Great cover/combo for me.  It's a pearl ball that doesn't overskate when it hits oil.  Just enough read to be playable when pearls really shouldn't be used.  Now that it's broken in, It's probably similar to 4000 grit since I refuse to touch it

Medium/Light - Venus
This has been a really good compliment for the late games when the Horizon pearl is just too early and strong in the midlane.  It pushes much easier but is still very strong downlane.  The PP cover blends out the pattern very well

Light - Neptune
This ball is very clean.  Much stronger than I anticipated which resulted in me probably drilling it a little too strong (4.75" from PAP).  It can possibly hook as much if not more than the Venus on some conditions because of how clean it is and the backend recovery.  I'll play with a weighthole to see how much I can tame it down but I'll be picking up another to see how straight it can really go.  Still love the low end options for some of those older wooden houses that I often hit throughout the year.  Higher RG and lower flare work really well.

Yeah....I concur Chappy! Great arsenal. Will you be using it at Laurel? Let me know so I can watch!

I know you'll probably be taking this to Cincy.

I have Brunswick High Polish on it.  The breakpoint is a very strong arc.  Think of the original V2 but overall much stronger.

Yeah, I'll be using it at Laurel.  Probably combinations of SD-73, Odyssey and Mystic depending on crossing. I won't be there tomorrow though as I'm bowling a tournament at Glen Bernie.

Think you might wish you had an Epic Battle for the real heavy stuff. Don't have an Odyssey as of yet so I'm not completely sure how strong it is.
