Whats a NIB Apocalypse worth ?
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:53:06 PM »
Went to my old driller today and he had a NIB 15lb Apocalypse in the back room. I wasnt leaving there without so after some slick talking, here it sits on my desk ! Specs are as follows:

15.03 lbs
3.2 TW
2-3 pin

What would something like this bring on the market ?

I have one that I've been using for a few years (before I took a break from bowling) and its one of those balls I'll throw till I die (and my Battle !)

The Apocalypse was a very good ball. As usual it's worth depends on a buyer willing to part with some cash. If you like it, then keep it for yourself. That way it's worth doesn't matter.

I am also a fan of the Apocalyse.  I stockpiled while they were still available.  As a result, I have extra.  Anyone interested please contact me.  I have a NIB 15lb 5 oz, 2.84 top, 3 in pin and a used 15lb with a 2.5 pin available.

Real hard to go $115 when coast to coast shipping is $25.

It's not like a ball become more expensive once it goes on the discontinued list.

You are expecting $150 plus shipping for a ball that has some age to it.

It's the same concept of someone expecting $200 and higher plus shipping for an original black or blue hammer.

It's not really worth that much to be honest..

I know I'm probably going to hear some rash comments, but look at it from a logical point of view

Granted a NIB Apoc is quite rare, but there is equipment today that is similar

I didnt post this here to sell the ball, I was just inquiring as to what it might be worth, as my original post said.

I have one and the ball rolls great after all these years, so to me I would pay $150 for a NIB box if I was looking !

Tell me why a NIB Lane #1 Pearl Cherry Bomb or Silver Diamond goes for $500 ?

Which is why I don't dabble into Lane 1 at all. I think any private seller (not the company or any pro shop selling their products) trying to sell Lane 1 equipment is dillusional when they price this equipment.

I've seen a twice drilled Supernova XP for sale on here for $115 plus shipping.

For one the seller is dillusional for even thinking thats a fair price. I dont know if it ever sold, but the buyer should definitely end their life for paying that much for a ball that for one was not that rare and in that bad of condition.

And I forgot Lane 1 equipment will make your average go up at least 10 pins. So maybe thats why people buy into it. For as much as Lane 1 equipment is selling for, they should have their own plant by now and pouring their own equipment.

Most balls lose value after they are discontinued.  However, there are exceptions and I believe this ball is an exception.  For example, if you were one of the people who reviewed the ball on this website, you may be willing to pay more than original wholesale cost of the ball.  Here are excerpts from the first reviews.

1.  I saw this drill on one of Tim Criss' balls and loved the way it rolled.  I was very impressed with the hitting power as well.

2. This ball is awesome...  I have shot 299 solid 9 on the fill ball, and have 2 300 in the last 3 weeks and i 800 nice 804

3. I like the longevity of this ball and the overall response on different conditions.

4. This ball is a monster. There is no quit, it just keeps hooking. Great reaction, and even better carry.

5. in a nutshell it's like the pearl SS on steroids. Great backend movement and HIT.

6. the ball seemed to have it's own FORWARD MOMENTUM .. trashed the pins .. looked like an ATOM BOMB exploded! Have 20 balls .. best reaction I've seen! GREAT BALL!

7. Strongest most consistent hitting ball I have thrown yet.  I have thrown more messengers with this ball than any I can remember.

Nothing special about this ball.  It was pearlized and it was very angular on the back end.   Many choices out there today that do the same thing.

Good ball but not worth a fortune.  $135 shipped should be the starting rate.  Anything higher is up to whoever has the cash in their pocket to play the game.

I thought the Apocalypse was a hybrid. It might have been worth more back when Roto Grip didn't have any hybrids on the market, but now they have the Infinite Theory, Rising Star and Nomad Dagger hybrids. Different cores, of course, but if you're buying a hybrid you're going primarily for the coverstock reaction with the core characteristics being secondary.

It's still a great ball, though.

Bought a used one, single drill, low games, good condition, for $50 shipped.

Guess a NIB would bring double, maybe more.

$115-$120 wouldn't be out  of line, especially as it is a 15lb'er.
