whats your line with the cell
« on: February 03, 2008, 09:20:35 AM »
I havent seen anyone else aroung here throwing it so i have nothing to refer to. But i am really curious what line you guys, and gals if it applies, are playing with this ball. I have practiced with it and been able to get lined up when i practice ,but thses are never league type shots. Conditioned lanes for durability, but pretty decent hold area without dynamic oob area. I have yet to be able to find a line in league though. I get total over under .with it. No recovery no hold its either high or washout. Brooklyn or bust. I am not knocking the ball just asking a question. I am really trying to find out why its so good in everyone elses hand and so bad in mine. Many peole know about it and it has a rep as being a very strong piece. I am trully doing it an injustice and its not fair to me or roto.
I was offord the opportunity to send it in to roto to see if it is something wrong with it and i think i am going to take mustang guy up on his offer

Yeh DAn, ours said that! lol

Toomany, your question is very very vague... the line played will totall depend on the pattern length, volume, and the specific bowler.

Drev2000, don't be quick to blame the driller!  I'm sure the ball is drilled fine, and is just being used on the wrong condition.  Especially if the ball is sanded to 400 grit, the ball is probably rolling out any time it grips any part of the lane.

if the question is too vague for you dont try to answer it. If you are playing in heavy oil or medium oil or whatever you are bowling on you will have a line to play is this not a true statement? If it is flooded i play up 5 if its dry i stand 30 and play out to 10 ,but no i appologize ,rocket science wasn't my best subject either.

toomany, this may be true if you play similar conditions all the time, but lane conditions, other than house patterns, dont often just come in "oily, medium, and dry".  With vertually any ball i throw, i may start playing around 22 to 15 at the arrows, say, but 3 frames later move half a board at my set down point, then a few frames later adjust my target slightly, and so on.  No-one is trying to be rude about your question, simply saying that you should base the line you are playing solely on the conditions that you are facing at that moment.

To answer your question in the simplest of terms, i released the ball around 23 throwing over 16 at the arrows, then by the end of practice i had to move in and was playing sumwhere around 24/25 and throwing over 17/18 at the arrows.  By the later part of the first game I was releasing 27 throwing over 20 at the arrows.  I think in the last frame i threw this line with the Polished Quest, for a strike.  I had 194 this game  I made similar moves in the second game (change lane after eash games, so the area i was playing was preffy fresh) and shot 204.  For the next 3 games I used the polished Quest.  for the 5 game set i finished 4 over.  This was on the WTBA Long pattern, around 42-44 ft long.

I have to agree with Drrev and inferno. I'm afraid to take it to 1000 grit, no less 400 grit. I suspect that something is very wrong, with your drilling. many people put the MB too close to the VAL/PAP and get a super early roll and think something is wrong with the ball.

I see this all too often!  Although that early roll is a great reaction on certain patterns! lol
