Title: which hustle should i get
Post by: TeeP Nade on July 29, 2017, 01:31:45 PM
any1 have any experience with any of the hustles? looking for a ball i can use on the burn, and i think i decided on a hustle, but there's 4 i can get a hold of. the POW and the RIG(discontinued but i can still get) i swear have the same coverstock? i guess the say is the hybrid, and the INK is the solid. but any1 have experience to be able to compare the balls?my problem with pearls is that they seem to jump off the end of the pattern, or when they see friction. really, i'd be looking at the POW or INK

Wait for the Ink, the Hustles are a little too much ball for the burn without layout adjustments and surface.

The PRO and SAY came out first. Both have hybrid covers. The PRO is a little earlier and smoother while the SAY is cleaner and stronger off the spot.

Then it was the RIG and POW. Yes, they have the same coverstock and are the cleanest of the line.

And now the INK is coming out. From what Luke said in his threads and the review videos he's posted it looks like a tremendous ball. Obviously the earliest of the five with a solid coverstock (that reacts like you would think) and from the looks of it has a really consistent shape even from different angles.

But would I recommend any of them for the burn? Nope. The Hustle line is quite strong for the intended use. Especially considering the core used. You're trying to peg a triangle block into a square hole using them when it's too dry. They might work for those with lower revs and higher speed, but I wouldn't gamble otherwise. These are balls for medium and just shy of medium conditions.

I would look elsewhere... or get your hands on a Hectic if you can. That's the most recent ball that works for dry lanes from Roto Grip. It's retired now, but they're still out there.

hectic was in the hp2 line wasnt it? wouldnt that make it a stronger ball? lolor are you saying bc the core was "late rolling" and it's a pearl, it'd be good for dry? my speed is 18.5ish i believe and 450 rev rate( based of yt calculations on how to find rev/speed) so i could probably get the hustle line to work...as long as they arent like "see friction, make left turn"

It doesn't have to do with the Hectic having the late roll core or pearl cover. It's just been a fact that the Hectic is better on burnt conditions than the Hustles up to now

Like SVstar34 said the Hectic is/was just a better ball for dryer conditions. Most of the time the categories companies place their product in is generally the right area, but that's not the case with the Hustle line. They're stronger than what you think HP1 should be. Definitely more so than the Loco, Shout, and Scream balls that came before.

Though for what it's worth there aren't many true "dry" lanes balls out there. Companies aren't making weak equipment anymore. That's not what sells, and the cost of production between a high-end and low-end resin is virtually the same, so they're going to push product that hooks. And you especially see a lot of "great bang/lots of hook for the buck!" type of marketing for the stuff priced lower.  Balls see friction and jump left. Just how it is. I think most are better off adjusting their line to than balling down when the shot actually burns.

I agree with SVStar. Also, I think it does help it with a later rolling core. The Hustle core revs up quite a bit and goes go left pretty quickly.

And that's what me frustrating about the modern equioment; It simply isn't enough volume as a whole throughout the US that puts out enough volume to take advantage of these pieces.  Even as a left hander who has to move to 3rd arrow by the 2nd game even with black widow and so forth, it's demoralizing as they continue to get stronger and stronger with less and less oil.

IMO Tropical is your light oil ball from Storm/RG.  Hectic next step up and I may get an Ink for true medium.

I bought a used Hectic, put a motion hole layout on it, and it is definitely better for the burn than the Hustle POW. My Hustle POW has a skid/flip layout on it, but it is earlier than the Hectic off the friction. It also makes a quicker turn. I'd say it is more for medium oil, even with the layout I have (it has handled staying in the oil quite well). And despite having motion hole, the Hectic is not flippy. It gets pretty good length and is in between being smooth and flippy. It does not like as much oil as the POW.

Hectic is the much better ball for burn.  As far as hook, you can pay ZERO attention to HP1 or HP2 designation.  Hectic is in the same line as the Show Off.  Let that sink in for a second.  Hustles before the Ink are just not good.  Way too much ball for dry, and by the time you adjust the covers to where they need to be, they're even stronger, but by then, you've moved yourself up into a range where there are several other better options.

Ink will not be a good true dry lane or burn ball because it's too strong off friction.  Great on light to medium fresh shot, not so great on true burn.  Hectic is much smoother and more controlled reaction, very slow off friction, it was the best true dry lane ball on the market after the Ride was discontinued.  I don't like the Tropicals because they're waaaay too sensitive.  Hectic maintains a much better balance and has a truer roll.

kinda blows, i help my buddy in his pro shop so i get balls at cost. and the hectic is discontinued. on ebay they sell for like 140 NIB...and to me that's just outrageous, thats like a HP ball. is there any ball from any company that would be good for burn( i know it strays away from original post, but no sense in making another post imo). lot of equipment i see, is too strong off the friction, and not good for the burn :(

Yeah I know because I'd like to get another one myself.  I really can't think of anything right now that is a true good light oil ball until you get into urethane.  The Ride was king for me, then the Hectic, but those are gone and replaced with substitutes that are way too aggressive.

For another company you might want to look into the Fanatic BTU Pearl from Brunswick. Haven't seen it in person yet or have heard a ton about it but it SEEMS like a good bet for the burn. Just have to find out more about how that coverstock actually responds.

People are saying the Cherry Vibe and Blue Vibe are pretty decent for the burn despite their core numbers. I usually wouldn't look twice at something with a RG of 2.51 and differential of 0.042 differential for dry, but real world performance > perceived performance based on numbers.

Then there's the bottom-line pieces like the Rhino and Tundra. I've heard good things for both. The Alley Cat might be good too but there's been nothing, good or bad, written or said that I've read or heard. I think the Turbo/R and Nitrous are slightly stronger than the rest of this group, although the former is in the same boat as the Alley Cat.

Recommending a ball for the burn is hard because I don't really expect anything to not make a hard move when it hits friction these days. Those that don't are few and very far in between. So if that's what you're looking for it might be better to pay more online for something known to react that way for most people. It's still a crappy situation though.

from my experience bottom line pieces tend to be too flippy/too angular especially on the burn. i do own urethane but seems over/under for me. i'll be right, it'll read early(like urethane is supposed to do) and just continue hooking, bump left, and it pushes forever. i own the purple hammer and blue hammer(rerelease) and they both do it!i also have yet to see those vibes roll down the lane even by the ebi sponsored guys

Blue Vibe boomerangs hard.  Blue Vibe is basically a Hammer Hyroad.

BTU Pearl doesn't shape like urethane in my opinion. Also, have tou tried polishing your Blue? Seems to be the way to go with that ball especially for drier lane conditions.

I just picked up a Hectic from buddies two weeks ago. At the time, there were 7 left at their supplier for 16 lb. Had to email them to find out.

I absolutely love my Hectic.  High RG/mild diff with a pearl cover.  I do think I may get the solid Hustle Ink at some point but even though the Hustle Ink is an HP1 ball and the Hectic is an HP2 ball.......I'm going to base my placement in the arsenal via on-lane performance as opposed to where it's slated in the product line.

I do think, generally speaking, that the product line is a good guide but there are exceptions.  I would defer to Luke on that though.....

Yeah, that's why I don't recommend urethane for the burn. Generally it's just not a good option. There are very specific conditions that you do want one for, but dry is not it. For most at least.
