cell pearl help

Hi everyone, stupid question....My cell pearl got torn -up in league yesterday. I need to sand it a little to get the chunks out of it. I am using a spinner.Here's the question sort of....I will be using scotch brite pads what color should be used to bring it oob again. Also, I guess I will need to buy polish, what polish should I use? I have league again tonight at 9pm EST so time matters. I usually just clean my equipment so this will be a first.Any help and suggestions would also be a huge help...Thanks!!

I would have the house repair and resurface the ball. Out of box is 1500 grit polished....

It would take the guys months.....Does it matter how to put the polish on. I mean can I use to much? I still want the ball to hook. I don't want to kill it.Thanks

Try the below, from Roto's website. 4000 abralon is pretty much equal to 1500 wetsanded:

Restoring Factory Finish:
1000 Grit Abralon:
Use a 500 Abralon pad to start with a *4 Step sanding process
Switch to a 1000 Grit Abralon pad and repeat the 4 Step sanding process
2000 Grit Abralon:
Same steps as above
Switch to a 2000 Grit Abralon pad and repeat the 4 Step sanding process
4000 Grit Abralon:
Same steps as above
Switch to a 4000 Grit Abralon pad and repeat the 4 Step sanding process
*4 Step Sanding Process Place the ball inside a ball spinner. Using water and the appropriate Abralon pad, apply pressure to the ball for 15 - 30 seconds in an up and down motion. Turn the ball 180° and repeat step. Turn the ball 90° and repeat step. Turn the ball 180° one more time, and now you are finished with the 4 Step Sanding Process.

1500 Grit Polished:
Reactive - Use Storm's Reacta Shine with a 4 Step polishing process
Particle - Use Storm's Moon Shine with a 4 Step polishing process
2000 Grit Polished:
Reactive - Use Storm's Reacta Shine with a 4 Step polishing process
Spend an additional 5 - 10 seconds per side to achieve the 2000 Grit finish
Particle - Use Storm's Moon Shine with a 4 Step polishing process
Spend an additional 5 - 10 seconds per side to achieve the 2000 Grit finish


Hope this helps. Love my Cell Pearl but keep mine at 4000 abralon..

It is OOB 1500 grit so that is going to be hard to pull of with scotchbrite... As far as polish I personally actually use ebonite particle polish and put a mirror shine on it. The particle polish helps keeps the pores open a little more and allows the ball to keep the strong snap but it gets rid of the over under troubles...

My wife only got me a green scotch brite and black magic polish...How close can I get it oob? I don't want a huge skid-snap should I use less pressure or water when polishing it? Thanks

Green scotch-brite is about 600 grit and the OOB is 1500 grit (with the polish). It would be a big difference.

Your best bet at matching the OOB is by using a red scotch-brite pad and then finish it with Storm Step 2 compound. This is what gives the 1500 polish OOB finish carried on both Storm and Rotogrip pearl equipment. You can get it here:

If it's not an option to get a bottle of the Storm Step 2 compound (its pretty expensive) - go out and get a gray scotch-brite pad. If the surface is really dinged you're also going to want a red scotch-brite pad. And if you want to be as close as possible to the OOB without getting the compound, pickup a white scotch-brite pad as well.

Start with the red scotch-brite pad. Work until most of the track is removed. Make sure you do all six sides evenly on low speed. Switch to the green scotch-brite and repeat (all six sides). This brings the ball to around 600 grit. Now use the gray scotch brite pad which puts it at about 1000. You can stop now and apply the polish and achieve a 1000 polish finish, or continue with the white scotch-brite which would bring the surface to around 1300. Polish on top of the white scotch-brite is as close as you're going to get.

When cutting using scotch-brite

1. Low spinner speed
2. Make sure the scotch-brite is wet. Before you use them, whack them against something to get any ball dust out of them.
3. All six sides of the ball!

When polishing:

4. Apply a SMALL amount of polish (silver dollar size dollop is probably more than enough)
5. Rub it into the ball before you start spinning. Let it dry for a minute (it should develop a haze)
6. Spin on high and use pressure to work the polish into the ball. You should feel heat.
7. All six sides of the ball!

Scotch-brite is an extremely cheap alternative to abralon. Get it here:

With a lower grit you will get less of a skid snap. So that might be better than.

Thanks for the replies. I wound up using Clean & dull + the green scotch-brite pad.Then, I hit it slightly with the polish.I didn't get all of the nicks out ,but I did shoot 712 not too bad.I think I might have too much polish on it still.What should I use to keep the shine ,yet take a hair off of the polish?Thanks!

If you use particle polish it will take some of the flip out of the ball and get it rolling a hair earlier.

If I had a dime for every time I've answered the question about 1500 OOB and abralon pads...

You can't do it.

You can come relatively close (1000 polish or 2000 polish) but not 1500 polish. To mimic the exact OOB surface of Storm and Roto equipment at 1500 polish, you need a bottle of the Storm Step 2 compound. See my reply above for alternatives to using the compound if all you have is scotch-brite or abralon.
