Mogators- i had to wait a week to punch it up...my proshop doesnt carry the grips i use, and forgot to order some...OH and i love storm oob surface! Especially when its a hybrid ball, its like i can strike at will.

Xevil, i bought it.for exactly what you are saying it is good for!  A step down from the crossroad (which is the weakest ball i throw)...it should be a vital piece that i need! Plus 2/3 go from being oily enough for my sync for thr first two games...then i ball down to the crossroad which most of the time is too strong! So im going to see what the wrecker can do..

I've thrown in on a house shot and the 2012 USBC Masters pattern.  Adjusted the cover to 1000 with a light coat of polish.  I was quite surpised (on the sport shot) to be able to play up the boards like I was and still had the core flip over hard enough to roll pretty hard into the pocket.  As I carved holes in the lane with a 500 grit power machine, I went back to the Wrecker and had a few angles to play with.

I threw mine after work yesterday but the lanes were much slicker than normal and had quite a bit of carry down.  My pin down balls were either sliding inside or if I got them out early would hook and then set.  After warming up with those threw the Wrecker and it got down the lane and made a nice strong move to the pocket that was not jumpy.  Probably due to the carry down.  Gave me a very nice look, but this is not the shot I normally see.  Will find out Thursday how it handles the fresh at my normal house.

Dudes, this ball absolutely rocks...the only way it could literally be any better...is if had the hyroad core with this weaker hybrid cover...

Its everything i needed to control what i am doing on the lanes on this "hooking patern" on wood lanes.

My defiant edge was burning up in practice...and for the first time in a long time..i was like dang, ok, i got something for this...i pulled out the wrecker, squared up, stroked the heck out of the ball, and absolutely loved every frame.  Won some brackets and survivor too! Haha

Dislikes:  as expected it does have a lil bit of trouble covering a lot of boards...and rolls best when sqaured up towards the pocket

I had no trouble wheeling mine, but it does have a fairly aggressive layout and I modified the surface.  Down and in on the fresh, and I could open it up quite early.  IMO much more bang for the buck than advertised, much like the Fringe.

Bill,

I go to your original statement.  Lots of reaction off the end of the pattern.  It continues on my Rising Star.

Keeps happening.  I have my pin down stacked under ring!

For me to get results I need to be free, inside and FAST!  Until I get deeper than 30 it is a carry party with 10 in the pit!  As long as I do my part.  Fast free and Trust it!  Humungous on medium and light!

How does the Wrecker roll compared to the Fringe?  I've found my Fringe to be a lot more ball than I anticipated.  I can use it on any kind of medium, but I have to get in since it is so strong on the back.  I wanted to be able to square up more with it, but it just creates too much angle, and that's if I can even get it to push far enough.  I love it, just not what I expected.  I've been looking at the Wrecker for something that I can move right with on the fresh and not have to fire it to get it down the lane.  Basically what I wanted out of the Fringe.  Was thinking of going pin down but a long pin to pap, say 6", to get the length but tame down the angularity when trying to play straighter.  I could also scuff it to make it smoother, but then it may start up too soon.  Ugh, sometimes I really hate being a true tweener.

IMO, with same layout and surface you're gonna find the wrecker be a touch stronger in the midlane due to the hybrid cover.  My fringe is drilled 70* 4 1/2" 70* at 2000 polished while my Wrecker is 50* 4 3/8' 30.  The Wrecker is explosive on the backend while my Fringe is much smoother and more archy overall.  but if I really want to get in and rev it up, I can.

Thanks for the reply, even though it wasn't what I was hoping to hear.  My Fringe is 55 x 4 3/4 x 35.  Pin above the ring and no x-hole.  I also put some Snake Oil and Ebonite Extender polish over the box cover.  I tried to tame the cover obviously, but the thing is still a boomerang.  It doesn't sound like the Wrecker will fit the bill for what I'm looking for.  Thanks again for the reply, it was very helpful.

Perhaps increase your angles?  or even adding surface to smooth it out?

You're dead on with increasing the angles.  If I give the Wrecker a go, I think I would do a long, low pin.  Getting length is the biggest of the issues in my game, especially when trying to go straighter.  I think a pin around 6" and down would give me the push needed, and I could add a bit of surface to smooth it out without sacrificing the length.  It would be a layout that I don't have in my arsenal, so I think it would be fun to try something completely out of the norm for me.

Just as a reference, when I want to go straighter at this particular house, I've had the most success with a pin up Mercury that is highly polished.  Ideal length, but it can be snappy.  I may hit it with a 2000 pad very lightly to smooth it out.  I've also done ok playing that line with a Rapid Fire and 508A, both highly polished.  I had a 300 with each last season.  However, in both cases I had to really pipe it, which is something I can no longer do due to back issues.  Going more up the boards has always scored better for everyone at this house, which is why I'm trying to find a consistent way to do it myself.  It's hard though since I lost so much ball speed since my back got hurt, but didn't lose the revs.  I'm now highly rev dominant.  I have even strongly considered dropping to 14# to gain my ball speed back.  I just don't want to spend all that money for something that may not work.  I do have a 14# Wildcat that I stole from my sister.  I may plug it and see how it feels.  I wish I had something with a bit newer technology, but oh well.  I've got a ton of stuff listed to trade in the hopes of getting a newer 14, but no offers so far.

I'm sorry for the rambling and hijacking of this thread.  My pain meds are obviously working quite well tonight LOL!  I'll check out now.

LOL.  No worries, I guess I hijacked too.  When you're playing more up the boards, how much rotation are you using?

If I had to guess, I'd say 20-25 degrees.  It's enough to get the ball to tip.  I'm not very consistent on doing it though.  I have a tendency to break my wrist back which brings my rotation down to almost nothing.  I'm a bit better at suit casing it, which brings my rotation to the other end of the spectrum.  It helps the ball push, but then it wants to go sideways at the end of the pattern.  But as I said, I'm much more consistent and can actually repeat shots that way.

I've got league tonight, so I think I'm going to tinker with the Mercury's surface, and also bring along my silver streak pearl that I know goes forever.  If I can get past the first game, I'm usually golden.  My back loosens up and the lanes open up quickly, which allows me to get in and wheel it, which would be my A game if I had one.

For Raven,

A few observations and thoughts.  I'm surprised your axis rotation is so small and you talk about going inside in wheeling it.?  Maybe higher?

Going straighter?  I'm in a house like that.  My axis rotation is in the 55 to 60 degree range and speed is usually a problem but it is getting there.  My strongest cores right now are the Rising Star and the Tropical Heat Indigo Solid.

Mostly I use a Sonic X Solid and the Rising Star(Wrecker previous cousin) and a Sonic Boom!  Diffs of .020 Sonic X solid, .029 Sonic Boom, and Tropical Heat .038 and Rising Star .040.

In today's arsenal depending on how much spark you want off the break(pearl always more), I'm surprised the Shout(.025) isn't on your list for early!  Maybe Scream.  If you are really 25 degrees axis rotation then they are possibly not enough.

Today's Shatter they say is a new enhanced Sonic Boom(I love that ball some days espesially a little later in set.  Old fashioned 7 inches from grip center weighthole.  I assume my Sonic Boom in some ways close to today's Shatter without a 7 inches out weighthole.  I love that SureGrip II coverstock stuff also!

In the Storm arena the Tropical Heats: Solid, pearl, and hybrid are all .038.  I saw Tom Baker and Ameletto using them on the Senior tour this year with deadly effect!
Similar to Wrecker in core strength.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS Fringe, Frantic and Manic way more core and in my house the Frantic(correction) which wants straight up is a dog except for the very well matched up high speed player or speed dominant player.  The Fringe gets by for the high speed player at this house but is not as good as the weaker cores above for MOST.
