Cell vs. Special Agent

Hello all. This post could have gone in a few different forums, but I figured I'd go straight to the experts.

My USBC trip is coming up in about 5 weeks, so I am starting to prepare. As I'm sure a lot of you know, every year at the USBC there is a "can't-miss" ball to drill for that given year's pattern. From what I've heard, this year in Albuquerque it is the Roto Grip Cell. Last year in Reno, it was the Storm Special Agent, which I drilled and was very happy with. Since last year's tournament, I've probably put a total of 20 games on the Special Agent. It's rare I bowl on a pattern with enough oil to warrant it.

Given that information, my question is directed towards those who might happen to own both the Cell and the Storm Special Agent. If you've bowled the USBC already this year your points are worth double . When looking at each of the ball's specs, they appear quite similar. How much will these differ in reaction given a similar layout and cover finish? Will the Cell give me much different of a look than the Special Agent? If most feel the two are fairly similar, I may just go out there with what I have. If the feedback is an overwhelming yes, I'll go punch one up. Go ahead, twist my arm

I don't have the Special Agent, but I had two Cells with me when I bowled Nationals on 5/6 and 5/7.  Cell #1 is drilled 3-3/4" x 3-1/2", pin next to ring, and I had the surface taken to 500 Abralon.  Way too much ball for the pattern at this surface.  I think 1000 Abralon would have been better.  In team event, I switched to Cell #2, drilled 5 x 3, with the pin 4-9/16" above midline, 2000 Abralon.  Had a great look playing straight up 10.  Stayed with Cell #2 for game 2 and made small moves throughout the game, ended playing
15-10.  For game 3, I moved inside and used a polished, symmetrical core ball.

Didn't use either Cell very much in minors.  I was having good success in doubles with my polished symmetrical playing 18-10.  Hope this helps. If you want more info, PM me.

Hi,
 I own both the Special and the Cell and they are two different balls..for one the Cell is asymetrical and the Special is symetrical...the Cell will give you a more mid to backend move than the Special...used the Special in Team event shooting 595 with a 177 last game.....Shiny,reactive, and backend pop with a move to the inside for minors is recommended....Cell didn't see much action

I am wondering about this myself since the Cell came out.  I have a Special Agent that I use a lot and I want a Cell but no one has been able to explain to me the difference in a way that has made me go out and buy it yet even though the Cell is surprisingly cheap in price.  I like the Special Agent and what I see out of the Cell with people who use it (nice continuation through pins) but I am wondering if they are too similar to justify a 2nd purchase.

For me, my Cell is earlier and stronger then my Special.  

Special is drilled with the pin 5 1/2" from PAP, Cell is 5".  Similar angles.  Both have highly maintained, fresh 2000-grit surfaces.

I've found on tighter, heavier patterns the Cell opens up the lane and as the oil breaks down, I can go to my Special and play the same line, with no other adjustments.

This combo worked very well for me this week on Chameleon.  Sorry, no National's experience for me this year.
