Can I drill a Cell Pearl and get this reaction?
« on: December 04, 2008, 06:01:32 AM »
I'm looking for something with minimal backends, good continuation, and some midlane.  Can I punch a CP and get this?  If so, how?

Rags,

Well maybe a stacked type layout with the shine removed?

Reason being...need it in a roll early and to take away the backend that the surface brings...

Mike, I was wondering about maybe a 3 x 3 and down to 1500 or so?

Yeah....would have to be in that neighborhood I believe.

Would start with just a grey scotch-brite pad to remove the shine...

If that doesn't due the trick....then possibly start to take it town further.

"May be" the original Cell is a better choice. But if you have to have the pearl then you should have the pin  somewhere to the right of the ring finger( right hander) or to the right and below ring finger( about 3.5 in. to PAP). Stay away from pin above fingers drilling.

The MB should be to left of thumb for less backend(  again, part of the reason to choose a pearl is because of more backend).

If it's still too snappy then try sanding it down to 1500-2000.

Good luck!

Sounds to me like a Twisted Fury Solid or a Copperhead would give you the reaction you are looking for. I personally am not much of a Brunswick fan but that is their typical reaction shape from their solids.

Rags,
Are you talking about minimal backends meaning ...you don't want it flippy, or that the lanes are pushed down and there IS NO backend?

Does that make sense?

Jeff, yeah that makes sense.  I don't want flippy.   We bowl on Twister pins and I'm averaging about 12 9 pins a set, with any ball I have drilled up now.  I just have this Pearl Cell sitting downstairs and am wondering if I can use it.

Do you already have the Cell Pearl?  If not, you may want to instead look into drilling something like a Hy-Road possibly.  It's a solid/pearl hybrid with a symmetrical core, so it's a bit earlier and smoother than the Cell Pearl by default.  The Cell Pearl tends to be fairly skid/flip by nature from what I have seen.

Nevermind, you edited your post while I was typing this.

I have a CP drilled 5x3 with 2in pin buffer pin up, no wt hole, and it is very smooth for me.... I have another drilled 6x5 with 3 inch pin buffer that will hook the entire lane...I haven't changed the surface on either

Ahh hahh!  Got it!  Ok ...wow, I've been away from this forever! I'd do like a 3x2, but this is an asym ball yes, ..does Roto have a CONTROL drill like Mo does for Morich!  Talk about smooth and staying low driving the pins!

If not...go with Roto 5B, looks like what you want, scuff the cover to our liking!
