Just doing a little research before I decide what two bowling balls i'm going to buy. Why Roto Grip? Do they make their own cores/covers? If not, who does? Whats so good about their equipment compared to the others?

Storm makes Roto Grip equipment, and they make very versatile, hard hitting equipment. One of the main things I like about Roto Grip is they have fantastic customer service, and the Epic Saga is one of the finest medium oil balls I've used in some time. Considering a Horizon Solid also myself, but I'm very happy with both Storm and Roto Grip equipment right now, all I'm throwing.

I've heard that Roto Grip makes their own cores and coverstocks but they're put together in the Storm factory..

Like the Storm Jolt is put together in the Columbia factory but with Storms core and coverstock..

Roto Grip Cores and coverstocks are unique as Swedebonite had mentioned. They are however produced at the plant in Utah where Storm balls are made.

Midlane roll and continuation through the pins is exceptional. I switched to Roto in 2002 and have never looked back.

I've been selling Rotos for a long time now and have recently converted to Roto Grip exclusively. Roto has always had a "bang for the buck" niche. IF you take at these offerings they've had over the years, many were in "ball/reaction of the year" categories all for around $140 and under

Horizon, Horizon Solid, RS1, RSX, RSP, Silver Streak, Silver Streak Pearl, Silver Streak Particle, Saturn, Venus, Sonic X, Sonic Boom, Super Sonic.

The way they can offer a $200+ reaction at almost half the cost is amazing. If you don't believe me, drill up a Saturn or Horizon, sit back and wow yourself at the reaction. The customer care is top notch and always reliable.

The thing I perhaps like best though is, they don't just release a ball to have another release on the shelf because it's "that time of the year", every release has meaning, a place in the lineup, and a reaction that many are looking for. So they never overflood the market with overlap like the "parent" company. I have the distinct feeling that some companies are just slapping ideas together and throwing them out on the table then in 2 weeks there's a new release which isn't much different from the last(or a ball that was made 3 years ago). The Roto Releases are always very well developed, thought out, and when you throw it you can say "Wow, this really fits a slot in the lineup that I don't have". I know when I threw my first set of 4 balls that I drilled from Roto, there was no overlap whatsoever and every ball had its place and worked out just for what I intended it for. Now I feel like I can carry less balls, and still have a great look on almost anything.

I really am looking forward to drilling my next set around January.

These secondary tier ball companies are quite unique in their bowling ball philosophy and marketing that differs from the "mother ship". They run on a limited budget; cater and target a certain type of bowler. I really enjoy the late model Roto Grip (Storm) balls (Saturn, Venus, Oracle Vision; Epic Saga on the way), they offer extreme value and great bb technology. As stated earlier, every ball release means something. They don't just impregnate the market with bowling balls.

Track (Columbia) more recently is going this route also, and is this kind of company, limited releases, extreme technology. Hammer (Ebonite) must be mentioned also is this group. Dynothane, another storm/columbia relationship 2nd tier company, also, I hear makes wonderful equipment.

Less is more. In the case of Roto Grip has to be my favorite. Great web page, great management, great communication with the end users (Bowlers). If you send them a email or phone them with a question or problem, you will be pleased with their service level. Hank Boomershine and Roger Noordhoek know the business and do it well. In my mind Roto Grip is the best.

<small side note about Track:>Track with recent management and marketing shakeout is experiencing fallout, only time will tell, what the future has to offer for Track. My hope is for the best. Under Del Warren, the company was jump started, Phil Cardinale is running the show now. Certainly, not holding my breath, it's in their hands to keep up the good work; continuity. The Machines are all awesome; glad I found them, will continue to bowl with them, as conditions dictate ie A shot. Wait and see attitude. Business is Business; no hard feelings, just realistic about the situation.<end of small side note: sorry had to say it>

In the mean time Columbia and Storm products fit my game perfectly, and would be happy with any of the balls they offer. But smaller companies (divisions) seem to be a bit more kinder to the bowler, and more approachable, more in touch with the bowler.
Roto Grip is king of them all! Great company.

I had been using Brunswick for a couple of years, but I had problems with the equipment matching up to my game. All of their stuff tended to roll out on me, regardless of drillings.

I picked up a Roto-Grip Sonic Boom last summer, and that ball has been nothing but good for me so far. I can't say anthing for the rest of their equipment as of yet, but I will definitely be buying more in the future.

I think the nice thing about RG equipment is that they don't have four balls at three price points that do almost the same thing. Each release has a purpose that you can match up to your game depending on what you need, and they don't cost $200+ like some other manufacturer's equipment.

I second that.. Though i've only met with Hank Boomershine a couple of times, i must say he's a stand up guy.. Always a great help, and great ball-designer..
I can strongly recommend trying some out.. Roto Grip is putting out some incredible balls right now..

On edit..:

Only thing i regret, is trying Roto Grip after the Oracle Vision was discontinued.. It is at the moment my benchmark-ball.. And i wish i could get a hold of a few more..

I just switched over to Roto Grip at the start of leagues started with the RSX and Saturn both are a joy to throw and very reasonably priced the Saturn drilled with inserts and slug $115 you can't beat that try them you won't be sorry the best move that I've made in bowling good bowling to you

Thanks for all the replies. I'm really liking what I see from Roto Grip. I'm still kind of torn between RG and MoRich and i'm still debating on getting an Ebonite or Storm ball.
