Hot Cell Surface Adjustments
« on: July 30, 2018, 06:26:59 PM »
I picked up a Hot Cell after getting thrashed by everyone throwing urethane at a tournament and it is pretty much as advertised. I wonít be using it often, but it clearly needs a ton of head oil to really even be effective.

It rolls very early and can often grab friction a little too easily. I know Iím going to take the surface down a little bit, but am between 2000, 4000 or maybe even polish.

Has anyone had to change the surface on this ball and what did you do with what results?

PS - I know that playing around with the surface would be best, but I donít get to bowl every week and was just looking for a starting point that someone else has had success with.

Thank you!!

I would recommend you start at 2000. For me, I use a 4000, but I have a higher rev rate than most.

It is 1000 out of the box. I hit mine with 500/2000 by hand. In fact, I did that the night I shot my 300/800 with it. I haven't used it much lately, but it could use a touch up. I find that urethane seems to hold its surface grit longer than resin. At least it appears that way. It's definitely one of the strongest urethanes out there, so it will grab early for sure.
