Title: Wrecker vs. Frantic
Post by: smoovethug on October 13, 2013, 03:16:01 AM
Anyone have a chance to throw these balls and able to compare and contrast them for me? From what I've heard both balls are exceptional values for the price point and are known to be THS killers. I own a pin down Frantic and it is quite possibly my fav piece at the moment for my med/low volume ths. If I like a Frantic will I also like the Wrecker? I was thinking about either buying another Frantic and drilling it pin up or choosing a Wrecker to fit the bill. Also considered putting the same layout of my Frantic on a Wrecker, just out of curiosity from all the hype I've heard about the ball. I'm approx 17 mph, 350 rpm, tweener. Any and all help is appreciated.

The Wrecker handles less oil (medium-light to medium)and has a flippier backend than the Frantic. The Wrecker is a better looking ball.
The Frantic is smoother (not smooth, has a very hard arc) and handles more oil (medium to medium heavy) and is uglier.

+1 with Charlest lol! Also like to add the Frantic offer a slight edge in versatility. You'll like the Wrecker. It's a monster ball especially when the conditions allow you to wheel-n-peel.

I bowl in a practice group with a couple of guys whose primary ball is the Wrecker. I am not sure of the lay-outs, but they do very well on medium house patterns. The Wrecker has a nice back end move. The guys also use the Wrecker for most spare shots.

I agree with Charlest; the Wrecker is a very nice looking ball (although the Frantic probably smells better).

I have a Frantic, and know several in my league who also throw the Wrecker.  Everything charlest mentions is spot on.  The Frantic will be a little less skid/flip throughout the lane and is a little more versatile.  I've been able to use the Frantic on many different medium and medium-light patterns with success.

For me, the Frantic was very over under. When it worked, look out! If it didn't... away it went. Now, I have 2 Wreckers one low RG layout and one high RG layout. LOVE them both! Much easier to read then the Frantic for me.

Have to agree with MC here. Frantic (at least in OOB) was very over/under on a THS for me. I have very similar specs to you, Smoove, however my Frantic is pin above ring. As others have mentioned, the cover on the Frantic is great for surface changes though and I found mine at 4000 or even 2000 depending on the volume you are playing really helps smooth it out. I haven't thrown a Wrecker myself but all the ones I've seen thrown match up pretty well on a lighter THS.

I have seen many people throw both balls.  I have thrown the Frantic and like others here have found it to be very over/under.  Could be my stats.

But ultimately, I feel the two balls are too close to one another to warrant having both.  That is unless you just want to experiment or are looking at eventually replacing your current Frantic.  The only reason I could see needing both would be on difficult shots where the small amount of difference may be needed.  But THS are VERY forgiving and if the Frantic is too much, I would have a larger step down than the Wrecker.

With all that said, the Wrecker is a wonderful ball and if you decide to get one, you should enjoy it.
