Desperado Photos .. and videos!

Its a pretty sweet looking ball. Another attention grabber on the rack and going down the lane. We threw them in league and if anything there was too much oil for mine, Ryan shot high series this week i believe though. =)

I have a desperado on the way,bought it used and can't wait to try it. on the polishing the cover thing I think you guys are going at it the wrong way. I've never had any luck putting a shine on a urethane ball with polish.you have to bring the underlying grit up real high and get what you get with the polish OR use a compound with grit like Rough Buff or super duty or any other gritty compound and really lean on it on the spinner with a damp cloth and compound.
a little advice though,I've found on urethane that I like a little surface,urethane is all about hooking in the mids and a tame backend and roll.if you need polish then chances are you have the wrong ball.

That's what I would have thought but maybe that just applies to resin balls.  I can tell you from watching the ball react that it cleared the heads easily and reacted on the back end.  It did not skid at all.

To give you some comparison, I was using a Requiem (high pin and polish), and while it was a tad (or two) too strong, I could have made it work.  And it came back with heavy flare rings on it so there was oil on the pair (freshly done with 3 league games on them).  The polished Desperado did not skid, it rolled, and made a very nice move on the back and had excellent carry.

I was talking with a pro shop professional with many years of experience and he said "back in the day" when urethane was the ball, he used the old wax blocks from the machines to "polish" up the old Hammers, etc from those days.  He was the one to suggest the wax machine.

John, Jeff...how do you think I'd fare with the Desperado?  Would I need to shine the s-h-i-t out of it to get it to work?  Or is my Too Hot good enough?  Majestic flat out stopped oiling on the high side of the house Tuesday nights.

My wife throws it at least a mile or two slower than you do so she needed the extra push in the heads but comparing the two, hers did pick up later than yours and seemed to have more punch at the deck.  While you were carrying what seemed like everything though, the shine I got on hers is more than you got with the Storm Xtra Shine.  There was one ball she threw that I had my back turned and I heard a crack and thought she switched to a LaneMasters ball.  When I turned around she had a grin from ear to ear and said "did you hear that".  Priceless.

If they're altogether dry you would need some heavy duty polish.  Even though you have good speed it may labor getting thru the heads.  If it is just dry in the back then you may be good.

Mine hardly grabs now. I was even thinking of roughing it up a bit.

Because of its asymetric core, it seems to my eyes to give/provide more backend than even my Slate Blue Gargoyle, which is pearlized. But, so far, only at Strike and Spare has there been dry enough for it.

I think you would not have to shine it a lot. It is nothing like the Natural or the Hype, which are standard, rolly solid urethanes.

My only worry is how wide a range can it handle for my and your release. I really can't say right now or, at least, not yet. I wouldn't urge you to experiment with one right now. You have a lot of balls with which you can play with the surfaces for Majestic.
