While I never threw a Pink Hammer, and I haven't yet gotten a firm handle on the overall performance of my Desperado, So far it handles an awful lot of dry. I did add a small dose of polish to mine. So that might have something to do with it. I also have not yet thrown an Ogre Urethane. I suspect its degree of polish is a lot higher than the Desperado's, but the core of the Desperado is much stronger than that of either the Pink Hammer or the Ogre.
I wouldn't count out the Desperado just yet, in all seriousness.

I'd like to point out that if anyone is disappointed that the Desp does not perform in a similar way to a Pink Hammer, that's not really our fault. However, i'd argue that it doesn't give length with a strong controllable backend move.

You can see particularly with my shots, as a low speed player (and throwing it particularly badly that day!), that there is excellent push through the heads and mids, and can see an emphatic move to the pocket that the asymmetric core gives. Ryan has plenty of hold area and even with his huge revs how controlled the backend reaction is.
If you're after a ball that will handle less oil again, and still give power at the pocket then I'd have no hesitation in recommending a XXXL sanded to 600-800 grit. It will clear the heads better than the urethanes, and midlane and backend due to the sanding like a urethane.

For years we had thought (as the original poster said) about a super weak cover with a very strong core... but when it came to developing the Desperado we soon discovered that the the old addage about cover being 80% of the reaction wasnt quite accurate... even with a very weak cover, a strong core will overpower the roll.
So, this lead to us developing the new type of urethane cover that is on the Desperado... we had to try a lot of different chemical makups before we arrived at the reaction we wanted.
The desperado is aimed at a totally different lane condition than the other urethanes mentioned, and we have stated this from the start. The Desperado was not developed to "skid on dry lanes", or else we would have put a low differential, high RG core in the ball. We developed the Desperado to be the ultimate ball on shorter tournament patterns. on these patterns, the Desperado out performs every other ball we tested.
Additionally, with a little polish, the Desperado makes easy work of lighter oil patterns, and evens out even the most under/over of house shots to give you the ultimate mix of control and power.
if you are looking for a ball with a POWERFUL core, tame controllable coverstock, and awesome carry at the pins, you really cant beat the Desperado... if you are looking for a ball to go straight on dry lanes... get a polyester

I was impressed with the hitting power it had though, I only hit flush once or twice but they just blow up. It seemed like it had a little more POP off the spot than most urethane stuff does.
Looking forward to Tourneys with shorter oil patterns like Cheetah or Chameleon with a bad surface. Also Late in tourneys when everyone is running to get left.

Whenever I have used urethane on shorter patterns the only problem I have had is with carry. What this ball brings to the table for me is the same line I love but higher carry percentage. I think that this kind of ball is invaluable in your arsenal.
Also when I threw this ball and my Epicenter next to each other its insane how much the cover stock really matters in bowling.

well I rolled mine today but not on the intended pattern for it so can't really give a fair opinion yet.I can say that this ball definitly rolls like a strong asymetric.
