Title: Epicenter OOB finish?
Post by: novawagonmaster on November 11, 2009, 02:58:20 AM
My Epicenter has finally started tracking up enough where it is moving a little earlier than I would like. The OOB finish was a hit for me, so I don't want to take a chance and end up with something too different. How should I go about getting this ball back to the OOB finish? I have a good assortment of abralon and polish to use.

Nova, take it to 4000 Abralone and polish, and you should find it reacting like new..

I went 360, then 500, then 4000, followed by a light dose of 3m Finesse II. The ball seems just a "smidge" longer than OOB, but that's OK. End result is on par with what I was looking for.

Thanks again.

Ryan,

I'd like to know if his following the Storm/Roto-Grip 500 grit/4000 grit scenario is what you had in mind or should he have done the full sequence of 500/1000/2000/4000 grit, then polish. The two are VERY different.

Thank you.

Actually, I was wondering the same thing as I was standing there with the 4k pad in hand

Just curious. What would the difference be in reaction had I used the 1k and 2k pads before the 4k?

End result, I am happy with the reaction. Shot 786 with it tonight (which is a personal best by a few sticks).

Congrats on the PB!

That Finesse It is good stuff, I use that on a lot of my equipment. It gives a good tacky shine compared to liquid polishes and usually gets polished balls pretty close to factory finish. Because it cuts i also find i never really need to sand/pad to anything over 1000. I actually get a ball directly from 600 to finished using it once, but it took quite a lot of pressure, polish and my spinner is pretty fast.

Always better to use more intermediate steps when finishing to get more consistant results.

I actually didn't like the box finish on the ball. I polished 1, took one down to 1000, and another down to 2000. They all roll real well
