Would you bowl?
« on: August 20, 2008, 04:43:54 PM »
Im throwing an idea to see if there is any interest. cost would be $65 paying $500 for first with 40 entries. Format is like this scratch bowl two games and then everyone is in single elimintaion matchplay seeded by 2gm total from then on until we have a winner. top man for 2games will get a $75 bonus before matchplay so even if that person gets knocked out in the first round they make 10 dollars. 2 game brackets for $5 and high game/series pots available. It will be in Fort Smith,Ar which will also be hosting the Arkansas-oklahoma state fair the weekend the center might host it so the family can go while you bowl and they have armbands that day too. tourney would be check in @1pm  on a saturday and bowl @2pm. Thanks for looking if we get enough interest we will kick it off and I can send flyers to your center.

ravynfox,

I've run tournaments with various formats and payouts.  I cannot speak for the bowlers in your area but I know from the experience in my area that getting bowlers to come out is always tough and you never get a sense of how the tournament will do until you run 3 or 4 of them consecutively (mainly monthly).

A couple things that I did not see which may help you get further input:

- payout ratio (1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6)?
- breakdown of lineage/prizefund

I would put the flyers out and run a couple of the tournaments and see how it goes.  You'll know after 3 or 4 whether it's worth the effort to continue.

Best of luck.  If you would like to have information posted on a website (tournament results, flyers, etc.) I offer a pretty good deal.  Send me a PM and we can discuss that if you are interested.

Regards.

ok ratio is 1:4 entry breakdown is $65= $50 prize fund/ $12 lineage/ $3 expenses. The center has a website to put it on and then i will post a link here. Yes its true you have to build up tournaments. im trying to alternate between handicap and scratch tourneys with the economy not many people want to spend a whole lot, so I spread them out. Problem in running into is introducing new formats people are weary and the previous tournament guy for the center ran alot of gimicks which should be left for the holiday tournaments.

You wont get as many entries like this. I think you would be better off if you have a 10 game tournament and then cut to the top 16. Top 16 cash and then go to matchplay. Sounds like you are trying to hard to get something different. Well most bowlers love the 10 game thing because it brings out the best of the best.

If you did what I said, you can get some people coming in and wanting to play 50-100 brackets on top of the high games, etc. I have not bowled in a 10 gammer in quiet some time but I know one thing is for sure. If you had a tournament like I stated you will have people from 2-3 surrounding states that will come out.

I know you probably dont want to hear what I have to say and you have your mind made up. I will say one thing, if I found out about a tourny that was in GA and was a tourny like I stated, I would definitly drive all the way there from northern NC.

You got guys that will in your tournament hit a bad pair for the first two-three games and wont be able to figure them out... These guys may not come back if you know what I mean, especially if they see someone to the next of them averaging 230-240. But the bowler struggling may have a better chance come game 4-5 to finally get the lanes figured out. I am sure you see what I am trying to say. Heck fire, if you did a 10 game format, you could even guarentee a thousand dollars first place and not have to worry about a loss! Mainly because you will have all kinds of players.

I am finished ah running my mouth, I just think you are going in the wrong direction changing a format to this. Bowlers like to keep it simple... If you could sometime do both and compare and then let us know how the results went that would be great. I am however, curious to see how it goes. John

Im open to all ideas this one is already in motion, but next one im seriously considering the format you mentioned john. The proshop guys are wanting to put together a doubles event about 20 games, but im not sure if they want match play. keep the ideas coming.
