Amateur Bowlers Tour
« on: June 25, 2004, 09:43:48 PM »
I might be purchasing an ABT Franchise to place in Florida around the Tampa area. Anyone that can give a little overview of the type of bowlers in and around the area it would help my decision along ABT is strongly supported by handicap bowlers but now has a Masters division for 201 to 230 averages. Handicap is based on 70% of 225. The classic division here in the chicago area brings in about 200-250 bowlers in the Classic division (handicap) and roughly 80-120 Masters plus brackets, side pots, and bonus bucks added to first and second place checks that you can get into. Some of the first place checks in the classic division have hit $5-6000 and $2-2500 for the masters. The also have their own national tournaments any ABT member can bowl in with first place paying $50,000.

You might try messaging Tweener2K4 or IceEmQuick.  They both live in the Tampa/Orlando area.

Thanks David, it's nice to see a little interest already. The Masters division is still pretty new but definately picking up. Since they don't put out a wall or a sport shot, but a shot that's in between, it's fair for everyone so it makes everyone happy . the handicap or classic division is still the bread and butter but it will evwn out more as time goes by. Does the Tampa area have any tournament organization now or is it just the occasional tournament thats once in a blue moon? For more info on the tour you can visit www.abtbowling.com .

From what I have been told is that a lot of the directors let their francises fall in the toilet, but the new national director is taking a very aggressive stance on rebuilding the old territories and to open new ones. And I tell you what, they are just as competitive as any tournament organization I've been in. The only other national amateur organization left is NABI, but ABT always runs them out of any town that they set up in because they are so well organized and work to make a better bowling experience for the average bowlers.

From what I've been told ABT is not licensed and has never had a franchisee in FLorida. What city were they based out of and how long ago since this so called branch closed up? Are you sure it was the Amateur Bowlers Tour?

I've looked at NABI and the thing I notice is their is no division for the guys like you or I who average 200 to 230. Also, if you look at the prize funds the ABT easily pays more. The Chicago branch had a tournament a couple of months ago that had a 185 avg. female win over $15,ooo, ands that wasn't even a national tournament ( which the ABT has also by the way). All the branches of the ABT consistantly pay from $1000 to $5000+ for first and are required by the franchise agreement to hold a  minimum of two tournaments a month instead of just one like NABI does as you mentioned above, but most branches run 3 or 4 a month which is more convenient for bowlers who like a variety of dates to bowl. also ABT runs at least 4-5 different squad times at a minimum to make it even better to fit a bowlers schedule. This is not a reply to knock NABI, just look at what you get for you entry fees and then try them both out a then make your decisions.

I hadn't realized this thread was here because I never look at this particular forum.  Twister, I don't know if you're still checking this one, but the post from racerX probably refers to ABT branches in California.

If you're from Chicago, I suspect you know me, since I'm quite involved in ABT Chicagoland North Branch.

Good luck getting things going in Florida!
