My brother and I bowled singles/doubles this last Saturday at Wade Hampton Bowl.  We were scheduled in the second shift which was supposed to start at 11:30.   We didn't actually start practice until almost 12:30!

Anyway, the lanes were Brunswick synthetic, well maintained, with brand new scoring consoles.  The oil pattern was shorter than I am used to, with quite strong back ends and an OOB (at least for strokers) outside of 7.

Singles was first up.  At home I typically throw a down-and-in shot with a little belly out to 8 or 7.  Rolling my D-T Threshold, I started out with that shot and had some success . . . for about 5 frames.  But then the line started to break down and I had problems keeping the ball from crossing over.  Neither moving right (lefty) nor changing balls made much difference.  I ended up shooting 177-156-146=479.

For doubles I decided to make a parallel move about 4 boards right.  I also decided to use my High Energy.  That move gave me a much more consistent and good look at the pocket.  Not much room for error though.  If I missed more than 2 boards left, I was through the nose.  I ended up with a 172-207-182=561 for the set, just a couple of pins below my league average this year.

If you're entered in the tournament this year you should find a challenging but fair shot.

I bowled this past Saturday (final weekend) at the Hampton Lanes and definitely had a down-and-up day. Like you, Bruce, I'm a lefty that pretty much plays the same line.  I spent the three Singles games fishing for a decent line that would carry without much success.  Shot 202-190-183-575 with not very many strikes - since I carry a 220 average on a THS, that's pretty pathetic.  Then, for Doubles, I moved outside and shot it straight up the 5 board with my Cell and that did the trick.  Came back with 255-268-214-737. (the last game I left three 6-pins because I was running out of gas.  Hey, I'm 58!) Yes, a challenging but fair shot.  Now, if they would only update the SCUSBC website so my partner and I could find out how we finished...

Jon - I don't know.  Based upon our scores (my 737, my partner's 650 for 1387), that put us 5th for scratch and 7th for handicap as of early Saturday afternoon.  The last shifts were Sunday afternoon and I keep checking the SC USBC website but it hasn't been updated since last Thursday so maybe someday we'll find out.
