Double Diamond tournament in Gautier, Miss.
« on: March 19, 2012, 01:07:08 AM »
Just got back, my observations:

* Shot is tighter than in previous years. Not nearly as much miss room.

* Still a carry contest, though. Pretty definite wall out near the gutter; the question is whether you can knock out the corners.

* Approaches aren't as icy-slick as in recent years. May have to do with temps being higher than normal for this time of year.

* Only one significant complaint: Our group bowled across 8 pair of lanes over two days, and nearly every lane has pinspotting problems. If you leave a multi-pin spare, after the machine cycles, the pins will not look like what they looked like prior to the cycle. If you leave anything with double wood, you are quite likely screwed. I left a 3-6-9 that might as well have been a 5-6-9 after the cycle.

* I'm righty with about 250 revs, medium speed, and my two best looks were (a) third arrow out to around 8 in team, and (b) over 5 out to around 2 in minors. If you plan to play in, you better have some hand, or you're going to see a lot of 10s and some 7s. I shot 1950 last year, but only around 1800 this year. I won't cash.
