:)STORM – Absolute Power

Patterns used for review:

Pattern A1: 43 Ft 29Mls 7:1

COMMENTS

LAYOUT: 4X4X2 , I use multiple hand positions and speed changes which changes rev rate, read and speed of ball.

PLAY

The STORM Absolute Power is a pretty ball. It has a color swirl that pops and definitely a shelf looker. Now, let’s talk testing. Overall, the AP rolled well and performed as expected. I was only able to test the AP on one patter. Additional testing will be done on a few other patterns as normal.

Pattern A1:

The Absolute Power was used on one of the four house patterns at 43ft. This pattern being a longer pattern with moderate volume from 8-8 and more friction from 8-2 with 2 different oils. The AP read just past the mid lanes each time and made a continuous move to the pocket. Original play for practice was 15 to 10. After a game and line change to 12-5, the AP was a bit much for the pattern if speed dropped or rev rate increased in the same area. The AP would hold the line but I had to be clean at the bottom as not to get the over/under skid flip. Real keys here are how it read and controlled the pattern and as the pattern developed for ball changes and moves left, and definitely for my style of play to be left and stay inside. HOWEVER, the AP when backing off of it a bit and going more forward in the release played better than expected and controlled more area with power from the right. After initial testing….I’m not sure where I would fit this ball in my bag. I only say that because of current arsenal set up.

LOW DOWN: The Storm Absolute Power will be a better ball for those bowlers who are low to medium in rev rate and speed. It will give you the look that you want without sacrificing big moves fast.

I’ll be honest I wasn’t a fan of the OG Absolute. It wasn’t as dynamic as I was hoping and didn’t hook enough. The Absolute Power doesn’t have that problem. The Power feels like a much stronger cover and hooks plenty but also has a good amount of backend. The R2S Deep Solid pushes through the fronts and backends quite a bit for an asym solid. I love this combination in an asym because it allows me to use it more. The big chuggy asyms have their purpose but I can get trapped in them pretty easy if they have too big of a cover. The Power feels much more usable because of the versatility of the cover. The Absolute Power is perfect if you’re looking for an all-around solid asym.

Midlane Dominance: Pin Down
The midlane control of the Storm Absolute Power is nothing short of impressive. The Sentinel core design and R2S Deep work in perfect harmony, providing a predictable and smooth transition through the midlane better than the Absolute for me. I used this primarily on the fresh for my style where it performed the best. better suited for medium to heavy oil conditions, this ball maintains a steady and controlled motion, allowing for optimal pin carry and increased hitting power.
The midlane read is consistent in showing when to make any adjustments or ball changes for me. Great readability as I can change to the Pin Up layout for a booming backend shape. Carry is a 9/10 in my experience.

Torque Unleashed: Pin Up
No issues in generating torque, the Storm Absolute Power stands out as another true powerhouse in the Premier line. The core's dynamics and the ball's weight block were designed to create a strong and angular backend reaction. As the ball reaches the end of the oil pattern, it unleashes a powerful turn. This torque-driven motion enhances pin action and increases my carry percentage.

Coverstock:
The textured R2S Deep cover of the Storm Absolute Power is unique surface finish which creates additional friction, allowing the ball to read the lane effectively without sacrificing its midlane predictability. When in use for me, this makes the Absolute Power versatile, excelling on various oil patterns and ensuring a consistent reaction that adapts to changing lane conditions.

Conclusion:
Bowlers seeking a ball with an aggressive backend response will find the Absolute Power to be a formidable weapon in their arsenal.

The new Storm Absolute Power brings a solid version of the Absolute to the Premier Line. The Power again features the single density Sentinel Core which will help the ball change directions and continue through the pins more consistently. However, new for the Absolute Power is the R2S Deep solid reactive cover that is intended to create a little more midlane read compared to the shiny hybrid cover on the original Absolute.

I’ve made it no secret that I did not get along all that well with the original Absolute. For me, the original Absolute was undoubtedly one of the cleanest balls I’ve ever thrown, to the point that I found it generally inconsistent and only useful in specific instances. So, I was pleased to hear that the Absolute Power featured a solid cover and would perhaps be more useable. Indeed, the Absolute Power is a much more versatile ball compared to the original thanks to the solid coverstock. The Power is still surprisingly clean through the front part of the lane, but picks up traction in the midlane and has a slower response to friction that creates more of an arcing motion on the backend. The Power will certainly cover a lot of boards, but I wouldn’t consider it to be an overly strong asymmetric solid like the Storm DNA; the overall reaction reminds me more of a symmetric solid akin to the Phaze II.

The Absolute Power is a ball that would fit right in the middle of most bowler’s arsenals. It seems to be best-suited for medium-volume oil conditions and would be a great choice for bowlers looking for a ball with a solid coverstock that’s not quite as strong as other big-hooking asymmetrical solids, but makes a slightly stronger motion compared to symmetric solid balls.

Layout: 45 x 4 ½ x 35

As with the original Absolute itself, the combination of a weaker cover and a strong core results in a unique ball reaction for the Absolute Power. It is clean through the front but has a reliable arcing midlane/backend. This ball rolls the best for me on medium oil conditions, as the coverstock does not have enough strength to dig through heavy oil. When I encounter heavier oil, balls such as the Optimum Idol or the Summit are much better choices. As the lane breaks down through the night, moving to the Absolute Power is the right move. As with the original Absolute, when this ball encounters the correct lane condition, the pin carry is markedly fantastic.

The new addition to the Storm Premier Line is the Absolute Power. The Power is the Solid version of the original Absolute. To be honest I had a hard time matching up with the original Absolute. But with the solid cover (R2S Deep Solid) this to me was a totally different ball. I drilled mine 4 1/4 x 4 x 2 pin up. The Absolute Power is a Home Run to me! The power just reads the pattern the correct way. It the most motion I've seen downlane out of a Asymmetrical Solid in a long time. The Power really excelled on the longer patterns like the Kegel Lithium pattern that I bowled on.
I have drilled 3-4 for customers at the shop from 2 handers, strokers, crankers. The Absolute Power rolled great for all the different styles! I think it is a must have in bowlers arsenals!
