Title: All-Road
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on October 03, 2019, 04:56:07 PM
All roads have been explored when looking for the technology to make up the Storm All-Road mid-performance bowling ball. The Inverted Fe2 weight block technology used in this ball allows more energy to be transfered to the pins. The NRG Hybrid reactive coverstock is unique and enhances the traction of the ball due to the Nano additive.

Color: Carbon/Teal
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: NRG Hybrid Reactive
Core: Inverted Fe² Technology (14#-16#)
Finish: 4000-grit Abralon
RG: 2.57 (for a 15# ball)
Differential: 0.046 (for a 15# ball)
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium to Light Oil
Fragrance: Blueberry

All-Road
The All-Road is the latest continuation of the Thunder line. It has the same core as the Hyroad’s and a Nano based cover that has been featured on the Physix and Super Soniq. This ball is exactly as described. It reads the mid-lane harder than the Hyroad, Hyroad Pearl and Hyroad X but still has that Hyroad shape downlane; but it’s weaker than a physic because of its symmetrical core. I personally think this is the smoothest Hyroad we’ve seen in some time. Its predictable in the mid-lane and is not too sharp downlane like the Hyroads sometimes get. I can see myself using this on the fresh conditions as well as league; It blended the wet/dry cliff well for me. This ball will fare well for all players in my opinion. The All-Road is neither too strong for the lower ball speed players nor too weak for the higher ball speed players— it is just right. I look forward to seeing these all over the racks of bowling centers because this ball is just that good.

Ball Review:

I was definitely excited about the All Road given my recent success with the NRG Hybrid Reactive coverstocks seen on the Physix and Super SonIQ as both balls rolled extremely well for me. Additionally, the Hy-Road Nano had been one of my favorite benchmark balls to date. Combining one of my favorite covers with one of the most popular cores of all time was something I was definitely excited about.

With the NRG coverstocks I had seen a lot of boards crossed with both the Physix and Super SonIQ. Where the All Road comes into play is the higher RG versus the aforementioned balls which will allow the All Road to be cleaner through the front part of the lane, storing energy and creating maximum backend reaction versus the other 2 balls.

The All Road is a perfect compliment to the Physix and Super SonIQ. When you need something longer without burning up this will be a great ball to jump into. Similar to the Gravity Evolve it seemed like the further I moved left the ball just didn't quit which is essential when the lanes begin to transition. This will be a must have for all levels of bowlers.

The layout we placed on this ball is 45 x 3 3/4 x 35.

Storm All-Road
Layout: Pin 4 inches and 1 inch pin buffer
Rev Rate: 300 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation
Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The Storm All-Road utilizes the NRG Hybrid coverstock and Inverted Fe2 core.  This core is the engine that made the long-lasting Storm Hy-Road famous.  This core allows for a thicker than normal coverstock, which always translates into a great ball.  When comparing the All-Road with the Hy-Road, we saw an earlier breakpoint with the All-Road.  The pin carry is what you expect from this new Thunder Line addition – Great!  The All-Road will fit between my Storm Super SoniQ and Storm Hy-Road.  The All-Road will be a great benchmark ball for your bag.

I could not wait to get the All Road as I was looking for something I could use the first couple of games during our scratch league. I wanted something I could start further right with and then as the night goes on when I have to move left I can go to my Gravity Evolve. The first game of our scratch league after getting it drilled I tried to use it but was having some issues with carry. Even when getting it out to the dry I was leaving weak 10s. I  went to my Gravity Evolve which was good for about 2.5 games and then it started hooking quite a bit for me. I switched back to the All Road game 4 and it was just what I needed as the outside part of the lanes were getting drier.  I was able to move my feet a couple board right from the gravity evolve and carry the 10.

Overall, I think this ball is gonna be a good ball for me to start with or even to end the night with. I just have to make sure the lanes are dry enough for me to use this. This will definitely be a ball I take to tournaments. I am looking forward to seeing what this ball will give me on sport shots or other house shots.

Here comes another great addition to the Hy-Road family. Strom is bringing you the all new All-Road. The All-Road has the incredibly successful Hy-Road core inside, wrapped around the cover originally featured on the Physix, Hybrid Nano Technology. What this cover and combo gives the bowler is the perfect step below your benchmark bowling ball. When something like your Phaze II becomes too early and not quite giving you the correct shape and the corner pins tend to show their face a little more often then you would like, the All-Road fits the gab perfectly from a solid to a pearl.

The All-Road is the perfect hybrid option that gives you nice length with incredible backend. I was really impressed with how much this ball hooks downlane. I was expecting this ball to be quite smooth with the hybrid nano cover stock because the nano coverstock is known for being controllable and smooth, but with this cover and core combo, I saw a clean and more angular shape. I still see the predictability of this ball, but I wasn’t expecting it to shape as much as it did. Believe me, I’m not complaining because this ball hits like a train!

Review:
The latest addition to the Road series of Storm Balls is excellent. The road line has been very good for Storm and I know this new All Road will have a lot of success. The Road series has a very thick shell which Storm says, and I believe, provides more hit by delivering more energy to the pins. The ball looks rougher than the 4000 grit listed to me. We had a Match Maker Ball Demo recently and this was the most popular ball after the Idol Pro. I am very impressed with my All Road and did not expect the total hook and angle I get from this ball. It seems to me Storms Symmetrical equipment regularly provides more hook than I expect. I am pretty comfortable moving inside with this ball and keeping my carry percent high. The All Road works well on a house shot as long as you keep it in the oil long enough and is good on a flat shot due to the sanded Hybrid cover. I don’t see much lane shine at all on this ball when I am done rolling it.
We have drilled a good amount of these so far for my customers and we have seen great ball motions from a variety of styles. I would put this ball between my Original Halo and Idol Pro in total hook with a surprisingly strong back end.

Summary:
The All Road is another nice addition to the Road Series.
The Ball has a very strong back end move.
The All Road plays well from inside while maintaining hit.
The All Road will be in my bag a lot!

AllRoad
70x5x40 layout
The allroad is a different shape for this line. And i love it. Its much smoother then the other balls in this line
If you liked the hyroad nano then you will like this one as well. Ball motion wise. Its clean and smooth. doesnt over read
the front part of the lane but also doesnt over hook. Id use this ball close to when id use an iq tour but just wanting a different shape.
This fills a gap in my bag i didnt even know i had.

I had my new Storm All-Road drilled up with a 5 x 4 ½ x 2 pin buffer layout. If there’s one thing I’ve found to be consistent in the HyRoad family, I always end up with a very late and angular reaction. Any attempts to thwart that through layout usually results in a poor performing ball. So, I decided to embrace the longer skid and hard hook phase.

I compared this ball to my current benchmark ball, the ProMotion. The difference was clear. As expected, the All-Road was much sharper on the back end where the ProMotion was smooth and predictable. I expected the Hybrid NRG surface, at 4000 abralon, to read a bit sooner. But it was certainly later than I expected.
Though it didn’t read the mid-lane as early as I thought it might, it certainly didn’t disappoint on the back end of the lane. With the larger symmetrical core, I know I can get a zone deeper with this ball and still see the core stand up and drive through the rack.

Team this with the new Gravity Evolve, Astro Physics, and a ProMotion and you’ve got all you’ll need to score big and consistent.

The New Storm All-Road uses the same Inverted Fe2 Technology that has been proven over the years in the Hy-Road line. Usually the Hy-Roads do not match up well for me, but I was hoping with the addition of the NRG Hybrid Coverstock would change that as I have loved the two previous balls with this cover on it. With this ball I also tried a new layout and went with Storms 4x4x2 Layout.
The new All-Road has been a pleasant surprise for me. The 4000 Grit NRG Cover gets down lane for me easily and when it sees friction at the end of the pattern it comes off the spot very smooth and continuous through the pin deck. It reminds me of the retired Roto-Grip Outcry with how easily it gets down lane.
For me this ball is best used closer to the friction than the Physix and SuperSoniq as both of those have early rolling cores that want to read the midlane. The only thing the All-Road shares with those two bowling balls is the coverstock. Even though they share the same coverstock the three balls could not be more different. I am a huge fan of hybrid covers and this ball does not disappoint. This is quickly becoming one of my house shot killers as its versatility shines when there are more lefties on my pair. Even though I want to stand left and play down the boards, I can also move right as they break down and not worry if it will still turn the corner.

Another Road!!!!

Storm has done it again with the All-Road. I mean come on, if it’s made by Storm and says Road on it, it’s going to be great!

The All-Road is the latest edition to Storms Thunder Line and it is a great one.
I have now thrown the All-Road on my THS in league as well as a 39ft 30ml Masters Patterns and this ball amazes me. You can play multiple angles with this ball and the cover takes to surface adjustments very well.

If you are a fan of any “Road” ball in the past you can’t go wrong with the All-Road.

The new All-Road is the next great "Hyroad" line. The All-Road has a hybrid coverstock, and it will roll a little earlier than what the OG Hyroad will. This ball is a great compliment when a solid, like the Phase 2, starts being a little too much. You can ball down to the All-Road, and it will fit in perfectly. I think this ball is very controllable, much like the other Hyroads.

I love HyRoads.  Sometimes I can’t throw my HyRoads because there is too much oil.  The All Road is the answer.  It hooks early and still shapes like a HyRoad.  The HyRoad Nano wasn’t great for me because it was early and a little too slow.  But the All Road is a Nano Hybrid so it hooks early and still tips.  Best of both worlds.

Storm adding the NRG hybrid cover to this legendary core  has me excited to take this ball every and throw it on everything. I place this ball directly under my Pro Motion and Phaze II and just above the Iq Emerald and Hyroad in my arsenal. This ball gives me are early but smooth and continues reaction that allows me to control the pattern front to back on most medium patterns as well as typical house shot patterns.

The All-Road features a combination of the inverted FE2 core found in the Hyroad series with the hybrid version of the NRG cover, which is found on the PhysiX and Super Son!Q, the solid version of which was on the Hyroad Nano.  The All Road is surprisingly controllable and a bit weaker than I expected.  I expected the length that the Hyroad series is known for, but I also thought it would be quite a bit stronger and boomier down lane than it actually is.  This is a relief, however, because it establishes it firmly as a compliment to the balls in the Thunder line instead of reaching up to overlap anything in the Master line.  It’s a great compliment to the Hyroad, because while the OG is long and really responsive down lane, the All Road offers a couple boards more hook and that same length, but a smooth, round, arcing shape that offers a shape alternative if you want a similar amount of hook that will blend the end of the pattern better.

STORM All-Road

Cover: NRG Hybrid

Weight block: Inverted Fe2

Factory Finish: 4000 grit

Flare: 5" or higher

Test condition: Mo Pinel designed house pattern - HPL panels - Flex Machine

After seeing how the Evolve read early, with the All-Road having NRG in the coverstock, I polished for the testing, due to current lane pattern and volume across the pattern. Had the same length as my PRO-Motion, but less aggressive in the breakpoint area and less angle entering the pocket but still produced better pin carry due to having a thicker cover on the ball. Could play straighter and less angle and also play super deep, nose bleed area for a lefty like me and open up the angles and the lanes for myself. Great additional to the legendary line of Hy-Roads...

Storm All road review by Brian Watson.
The new ball in the road series is the All Road with the very successful  hyroad core wrapped with
The hybrid reactive with NRG.  With the NRG additive the All road rolls a little early
thus is smooth and low response downlane.  I drilled mine pin down with 5 inch pin no hole.
I absolutely love the ball motion I get with All road. With original hyroad I sometimes got a little over under reaction.
But with the NRG it really blends out the overall motion.
Giving me a string arcing motion without all the extra length.
I got the All road beneath a Phase 2 and super Sonia.  But above a hyroad pearl.
Very good addition to the hyroad line. As the hyroad nano was a little too early the All road is better
in that department.

Great Piece. This ball loves to see the friction. The All road glides through the fronts and when it gets that friction it makes a very strong move. Ball absolutely destroys the pins. Very fun ball to throw when the back ends are fresh.

The New Storm All-Road gives a whole new motion to one of the most successful lines of all-time. The iconic Inverted FE2 core is wrapped up in Nano Technology to give a smoother reaction. The All-Road is the earliest "Road" Ball I've thrown, and a great ball for tough oil-patterns.

I first tried the All-Road on a medium oil pattern on a very high friction surface. It's always a chore to fight the ball through the fronts but a little more tilt and the All-Road hit the spot I wanted. Mid-Lane Read helps control the backends. The ball tends to labor when it gets right down-lane and having a ball like the All-Road that never misses the mids really opens up the lane.

I think the more rev-dominant and speed challenged bowlers will really like this piece on sport patterns as it's strong enough to take advantage of it's consistent roll on higher volumes but doesn't over-react off the back-end.

Storm All-Road

Cover: NRG Hybrid

Core: Inverted Fe2

The lastest ball in the Thunder line, the All-Road.

It features the same core that has been in all Hyroad's and Nano hybrid cover recently used on the Super Soniq and PhysiX.

The All-Road retains the same shape you have come to expect from a ball in the Hy-Road line---well, a touch smoother because of the cover. The difference between this and others is where it starts to read the lane. It starts to read the lane a bit earlier. It plays a bit stronger than other current Hy-Road pieces.

So far for me this one has been very useful on fresh league conditions. My local centers play a bit on the dry side, so my recent league arsenal has been a mix of Hustle's. The All-Road is obviously stronger than those but since it reads early enough, I can get away with starting with it. It may only be a 1-2 game ball for me and my style but its a nice option to have in the bag.

Can’t really mess with a great thing here!  The success of the Hyroad series is no secret so it was time for the hybrid All Road to continue that history.  For my style of play, I need to drill my Hyroads with a strong 3-3/8 pin for max flare given the high RG of the ball.  I went with a 60 x 3-3/8 x 25 which put the pin to the right of my ring finger.  What I was looking for was the same shape as the Hyroad X, but with the ability to play on higher volume conditions….I got just that!  This ball is a great transition ball when you need to move in but you still need surface to read the mids with great recovery on the backend.  I was able to keep moving in without loss of energy as the ball made it’s way back to the pocket, super fun to throw!

If you’re in need of that “in between” ball where your pearl is too clean but your solid is too strong, and you still want great backend recovery, go pick up an All Road today and keep on bowling up a Storm!

The All-Road has the same inverted Fe2 core as all the Hyroads, and the NRG hybrid cover on the Physix and Super Soniq. It reads the mid-lane harder than the Hyroad, Hyroad Pearl and Hyroad X but still has that Hyroad shape. Because of the Nano tech in the cover, it grabs the lane a little more than any other Hyroad and it blends out oil patterns really well.

The AllRoad features R2S hybrid nano technology wrapped around the proved inverted FE2 core. I pride myself on my ability to be honest when giving reviews. Luckily for me, 95% of what I drill matches up extremely well to my game. Unfortunately for me, the All Road is not one of them. I expected it to be much cleaner and faster down-lane than what it actually is. I drilled it with a weaker pin position and smaller Val angle to try and compliment the motion I expected out of it. What I found surprised me. It’s much earlier, stronger and slower to respond to friction. After filming this video, I actually plan on plugging and re drilling it with a stronger layout. What I do like a lot about this ball is it’s ability to accept a wide variety of surface changes. I was able to throw it with a fresh 1000 in the later part of a tournament with some success as well as 1000 + Step three to snap off a couple of league pots. When compared to the pro motion, the All Road is visibly cleaner through the front part of the lane and slightly straighter off of friction. I can see this ball being fantastic for straighter players that want to shut their angles down, or higher rev rate players that want to drill it stronger and be able to stay right for a longer duration of time. Be sure to head over to your local storm VIP pro shop and drill your own all road today!

Review:
This is a much different addition to the Road line than what you would expect. Compared to our Pro Motion this ball is much straighter down lane with a much more direct turn. If you like playing right and down the boards or are a high rev player looking to stay to the right long into a set then this is an excellent fit for you. The thing we love about this ball is it is a different look than what most people have in their bag. This is a great tournament ball when the lanes start to get a little sloppy mid lane. This ball will be very controllable to the break point and hit like any ‘Road’ line ball does.

Storm’s latest release in the Hy-Road line brings us the popular core with the recently popular NRG Hybrid cover stock.  I drilled mine 5 x 5.5 x 2 and after throwing this ball for while it was very smooth off the pattern. The All Road is a lot earlier and smoother than the Hy-Road X which leads to it being just a little stronger. I would compare this to the older Hy-Road Nano with the All-Road being a touch longer.

I drilled my All Road up 75 x 4 x 30. I have touched up the surface with 2000 and 3000 pads. It seems to fit my style at 3000 CTD pad. I have always been hit or miss with the Road series weight blocks going all the way back to the Thunder Roads and T-Roads. A ball like the Cross Road would fit my game and I would throw it until the cover stopped reacting, but then a ball that everyone loved like the Hy Road I couldn't get to hit no matter the layout or surface. The All Road is a perfect fit for my game. I can throw this on medium (39-42 feet) patterns and go away from the pocket or line it straighter and get it to hold and hit. I am going to drill a compliment ball since I throw this on both league and sport patterns so well. I figure a slightly weaker pin distance in the 5" range but with a smaller val angle like 20* will make this one push and tip downlane when the 4" one is too early. Drill this one up and be pleased as the cover and core match up well together.

So far the All Road is a great compliment to my HyRoad & HyRoad X. When my HyRoad OG is responding a little too violently to friction I move to the All Road for a little cleaner response without losing the momentum on the back part of the lane. It is earlier and smoother than my HyRoad OG and blends the patterns better thus making transition easier for me. I have the All Road laid out the same as my HyRoad X (pin in my finger) and the NRG Hybrid that the All Road is wrapped with definitely packs more of a punch leaving less ten pins and 8 pins all together. Although my HyRoad X used to do the same so I am interested to see if this cover tames down the same way over time. Over-all I am really enjoying throwing this ball, it is a shape that I am super comfortable with and know I can always go to when I don’t know what else to do.

Pattern B: 43Ft, 29.86 Mls, 4:1 ratio

COMMENTS

The All Road was easily able to control mid lane roll. It wasn't to early that it flatten coming around the corner. Normally a ball in this range would slow down as you moved in. However, the All Road was able to keep its motion down lane. This allowed for moves in and out as the pattern developed throughout the set.

Things to look for:

A. The ALL ROAD out of box bled energy a little faster the deeper the play area became as I moved in deeper on both patterns. The ALL ROAD was much better in controlling the lanes as the pattern transitioned from the right.

B. The ALL ROAD with allow for more continuation off the back of the pattern as the midlane begins to transition.

C. Cover change for these patterns at 500/2000/polish allowed for slower moves on both patterns and kept me right or tight.

Personal preference is to keep the ALL ROAD shined for use as a 1/2 combination with the PHAZE III. After using these balls side by side on the same two patterns it was easier to make moves knowing the when I needed a little more power I could ball up to PHAZE III or stay in control with the ALL ROAD!

NOTE A: For heavy hitters the ALL ROAD allowed me to be much more aggressive in the release and power up on the ball. This helped with having a smoother reaction without being so restrictive in how much I bumped the track area of the patterns. When I moved in I was able to hold for a game and then push back out to the right and control the mids. This is a must if you looking for something not in the upper end of performance but still want to be able to play heavy handed and shape the lane as the night goes on.

I Drilled a second ALL ROAD and pushed the drill angle smaller. At this Point the All Road made for a bit of angle but not uncontrollable. It held shape on the same pattern but if you pushed it from the inside you knew it would be a little flat. However, polished allowed for longer stability and hold from the 13 to 8 range through out the set.

LOW DOWN: The ALL ROAD will benefit you if you are looking for a ball you can be a bit more aggressive with if you're a stronger rev player especially as the pattern starts to go. Next, the ALL ROAD is the ball you will need to ball down to from the PHAZE III. This ball will be more of a sport pattern ball for my play area at this moment as it blends the patterns out nicely. The ALL ROAD can be drilled more aggressive for lower rev players wanting to attack the lanes from the right.

   Coverstock:  NRG Hybrid Reactive
   RG:  2.57
   Differential:  0.046
   Flare Potential:  High (5” – 6”)

I laid this ball out with one of my favorite controlled drillings (50 x 4 ½ x 70), which put the pin below my ring finger.  This was a similar layout that I had on a Phaze II, which was one of my go to balls.  I threw the ball during my Friday night league on a house shot but was able to use it all night long with very minimal moving.  If I missed out the ball would not over react off the friction and gave you a little bit of miss room in the middle.  The ball is very smooth off the spot and continuous through the pins.  I would think this would be a great ball to use on Medium volume patterns with the original Hy-Road being the step down ball once it starts to burn up.

The latest entry in Storm's long-running Thunder line, the All-Road lives up to its name by having a massively wide range of use. Fans of the original Hy-Road will feel a ton of familiarity in how the All-Road shapes downlane thanks to the Inverted FE2 core (2.57 RG, 0.046 diff in 15#), but the All-Road also brings extra traction to the equation thanks to the 4000-grit sanded NRG Hybrid cover (also seen on the Super SON!Q and PhysiX). My All-Road (laid out at 55 x 4.5 x 35, putting the pin above my bridge) showed itself to be a ball that makes it very easy to hit pocket 10-11 times a game on house shot... and still get through the pins while doing so. That combination is not always a given when pocket carry is a must - the extra control sometimes means giving up some drive, but the All-Road showed itself to be capable of both whether on fresh, burn, or carrydown. If you're a fan of the Hy-Road series, this ball is a can't-miss addition to the family.

I’m 63 years old, right-handed bowler.  My ball speed is 15-15.5 and I put myself in the stroker class.  I roll between the 5 & 10 board.  I use a different ball to match the lane conditions.  The NRG cover stock works great for me so I try to get every ball with that particular cover.  I drill with the pin above the fingers. This ball is my new benchmark ball.  Until this ball, it was the hyroad.  The ALL ROAD is clean threw the front part of the lane and a lot of energy with good backend reaction.  If this ball hooks to much, I change to the physix or the new phase III which will give you more length.  I layout this and the other two 55x3 3/4x25.  All of these are great.  Check with your local pro shop or get with storm.  They have a program called match makers where you can buy a new ball to see what works for you.

What to say about this ball? Since drilling mine I've really happy with I've seen. I like smoother shapes and the All Road fits that. With nice pop in the back. For a med price ball you get a great ball and a ball that is good for bowlers of any skill level.

Introducing the All Road, the newest release in the Thunder line. This ball still uses proven Inverted Fe2 core and wraps it with the NRG hybrid cover that was previously used on the Physix. The layout I used was 5 x 5 x 4, which puts the pin right under both fingers and kicks the cg out slightly. One of my favorite pieces as of late has been the Hyroad X because of how clean and strong down lane it is but sometimes its not quite strong enough to start the day off with. Well the All Road is the perfect solution for that. With the beefed up NRG Hybird cover it picks up much stronger in the oil and creates a strong and continuous motion. This is a great benchmark piece that can easily be the first ball out of the bag for most.

Layout - 80*5.5*20

I gave my All-Road the same layout as my Hyroad X in an effort to get just a earlier smoother version cause I really like the X. Mission accomplished!! The AllRoad is much sooner than the X with both at the OOB surface. For me the AllRoad needs to have alittle volume in the front part of the lane for it to be really effective. It didn't really to change directions very much at all so I couldn't go too far left with it and just send it right, I had to keep straighter angles thru the front part of the lane to see a decent motion through the pins. Now the straighter I was able to stay with it the better it looked. I tried a surface adjustment with it cause I just wasn't getting much use out of it with the surface that was on it and when it lane shined it seemed to get even lazier. I put it back at 1000-1500 and put Storm Step 2 compound on it and the results were amazing. I got just a punch more push through the early part of the lane and much more continuation off the spot. For me it made the ball much more versatile and usable on the conditions I see in my area.

STORM | All Road Review - John Struckman
HyRoad… with NRG Hybrid Reactive… Oh my! Taking my personal favorite mid performance bowling ball of all time and combining it with a Nanotechnology cover… equals a ball up from the HyRoad that everyone should be excited about. Exactly what I need in tournaments and when the original HyRoad just isn’t enough ball on heavier volume oil patterns. Using All Road on the house shot is a lot of fun as well. It allows me to move further left of where I would stand with the original HyRoad but still have that strong downlane motion and hitting power that we all look for from every ball with “road” in it. Technical Numbers = RG 2.57 / DIFF .046 / 4000 grit abralon factory finish / 5-6” flare potential / NRG Hybrid Coverstock / Symmetrical Weightblock / No Core. It is exciting to know that the All Road is essentially a HyRoad with more “teeth” which allows you to move into different parts of the lane, open up your angles and know that you are going to get that HIGH RG motion coming back into the pocket.

Storm All Road Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

As the “Road” legacy continues, the latest addition to the line is the Storm All Road.  The best minds at Storm went a bit of a different route with the All Road and it’s impressive.  The engine didn’t change inside the ball, but the coverstock did.

I’ve drilled one All Road so far and think it fills a nice spot in my tournament and league bags.  I used one of my favorite layouts which is mapped out as 5 x 4 with no weight hole.  That puts the pin above my bridge and I didn’t change the surface.  After some oil got in the coverstock, the All Road shined nicely and it’s a much cleaner, quicker response time than my Gravity Evolve, but is stronger than the Tropical / Hustle series.

I’ve had success with the All Road when there’s some friction and after patterns have transitioned.  I’ve also had success being able to move right, increase my speed, and try to trap it.  It’s a ball that doesn’t change direction extremely hard, so I’ve been able to use different releases to play with the response time.

Overall, I think the All Road is a great addition to tournament and league bags.  Go drill one!

The All Road for me is very clean and very continuous for its dull finish.  Comparable to the IQ Tour, the All Road is cleaner and a few boards more of hook at the break point.  The All Road is great on oil patterns where you want to control the backend but bowl on lower amounts of volume or higher hooking lane surfaces.  The ball is very unique in the Thunder Line comparative to the rest of the Hy-roads.  It compliments the Hyroad X very well as it is stronger rolling and slightly smoother overall.  The Hyroad X would be a great step down from it as well to give it a more angular shape.

The Storm All Road is featuring one of my all time favorite covers in the Storm family. The NRG Hybrid sees the pattern just right for my game. I love the strength and continuous motion I get with that cover and core combo. The All Road has a RG of 2.57 with a Diff 0.46. What this ball does for me is, when a Pro Motion and/or Idol series balls are a little too early, I think of the All Road. The ball has that strong cover where I know 1. The ball won’t pick up too quick and 2. I know it won’t get down to far because of the cover. If you’re looking for a ball between the Pro Motion and the OG Hy-Road, you should definitely give the All Road a look.

Storm All Road
45 x 3.75 x 40

Anything with the Hyroad core in it is going to be good.  The All Road is basically a new version of the Hyroad Nano.  I personally think this ball is a little cleaner/longer and a bit more down lane continuation vs the Nano.  For me, when I have to put down the Phaze 2 or Phaze 3 sometimes going into a shiny ball isn’t the answer.  With the thickness of the oil today and how much volume we bowl on regularly, polished bowling balls tend to amplify the lanes transition.  This ball is exactly what I’m looking for, controllable continuation.  It is perfect for medium volumes and lengths.  I can use it late on heavier longer patterns and on the fresh on short and medium oil patterns.  Don’t be afraid to alter the surface to match your game in either direction.  This is a great all around ball for all styles, feel confident when purchasing anything with the word Road in the name!

Storm All Road

50 x 4 3/4 x 40

The All Road is the perfect benchmark ball - smooth, consistent, and versatile. It is not as early as past sanded iterations of the HyRoad (HyRoad Solid, HyRoad Nano), and covers a wider range of conditions. It is easily strong enough to handle a fresh league condition, but still rolls well when you have to chase the pattern left. I would classify the motion as a hard arc downlane - smooth but with just a touch of angularity. It is a little too strong for when the fronts start to go away, but going to something such as the HyRoad Pearl fills that reaction perfectly.

My Review and opinion of the All Road

This ball is right up my alley... No pun intended but seriously.... I can pull this ball out of my bag first game or third game and know I will be able to put it in the pocket.  I am a right hander and I put the pin in my ring finger while kicking the CG out from grip center 2 inches.   I get a very nice, round, smooth look out of this ball that is ultra controllable.  If you're looking for a ball that you can use whenever, wherever than I would look into buying a All Road.
