- Description: With a commitment to innovative core design development, it’s no wonder that Storm continues to push the envelope with shapes like the C.A.M. and Centripetal weight blocks. While the Invasion is developed for the heaviest of oil patterns, oil depletes quickly as proven by Kegel and Storm in a cooperative seminar series earlier this year. So, the goal of the new Anarchy is to develop a high-end strong asymmetrical that is clean through the heads and turns over sharp at the break point, even for bowlers without all the revs of the tour guys. With 25 years of experience in coverstock chemistry starting with U-Clean U-Score™, Storm is the industry leader of high performance bowling balls. Premier Line balls like the new Anarchy all feature strong asymmetrical shapes that are engineered from concepts different from the “industry standard.” It’s what sets Storm apart from the competition. Looking at the Origin core, we find a strong asymmetrical design that is dynamic and contoured to maximize usability. Wrapping the Origin core with R3X coverstock material, the shell is designed to maximum surface texture which increases overall ball motion. The polished finish of the new Anarchy ensures a glide through the heads and strong backend motion that we all love. In conclusion, Storm continues to develop innovative technology combined with fine workmanship. That’s why we are “The Bowler’s Company.”

Average is 202. My PAP is 4 3/8 over and 1/8 up.   Had it drilled with the pin up above the bridge, cg kicked out to the right, and mb is pretty far to the right, with no weight hole.  Using it on a ths with oob finish.  Figured it would be a good first to second game ball before I have to switch when the lanes break down.  Pretty sick ball!  With this drilling, it certainly get down the lane, but when it turns the corner....BAM!  Great job Storm.  Took me about 12 games to really break it in and get the "newness" off and learn its characteristics, but I'm really loving it now.

Bowler stats
Axis tilt = 10 degrees
Axis rotation = 50 degrees
PAP = 4.5" over & .5" up
Ball speed = 17.0-17.8 MPH
Rev Rate = 375-400 RPM

Starting weights for Anarchy
15.3 pounds
3.5" pin
3.2 oz. TW
MB, pin, and cg are aligned.
OOB finish (1500 polished)

I hadn't drilled out a true aggressive pearl in quite some time and was anxious to punch the Anarchy out after I heard Storm was going to wrap a strong cover on the Origin core from the Invasion.  I did not fare very well with the Invasion.  Was it simply too much ball?  Did I really need a ball that strong for a medium volume THS?  Did I suffer from New Ball Syndrome?  Ultimately, the ball & I just did not see eye-to-eye and I sold it very early in it's life.  Storm's big core in the these pills seems to be in need of a driller/style/condition fine tuning that only comes from trial & error or a lot of luck.  Did I expect the Invasion to be strong?  Absolutely.  However, I underestimated the Origin core and placed a very shallow drilling angle (50x3.75x45) and the ball seemed to expend a lot of energy before getting to the pocket.  Upon further review, taller drilling angles to promote a little more length are prudent for my game and the ball's intended use.  I'm sure that Invasion had a home in my bag, but I had other pieces in place and decided to move in a different direction.  I've always wondered if a different drilling would have worked better or even a different surface.  The introduction of the Anarchy gave me the chance I'd been looking for to see if the lessons we'd learned from my Invasion could be put to use on a new ball.

We drilled the Anarchy 75x4.25x50 which meant we'd drill the ring finger through the pin and a P3 hole.  We were hoping to to provide a little length with both cover AND drilling this time and knew (or at least were pretty sure) the R3X Pearl cover was going to be capable of recovery for errant shots right of target without looking like someone kicked it left at the breakpoint.  The result?  Spot on.  Strong, controllable move at the breakpoint with a great move through the pin deck.  The Aromatherapy Focus scent is just another added bonus as my car smells like the best little tree money can buy!  Makes me wonder how happy I'd be with an Invasion with a proper game plan.  That's a story for a later date.  Thanks for reading my review and I hope this might help you make a decision for your future purchases.

I drilled my Anarchy with the pin high above the middle finger, the CG in my grip, and the mass bias just right of my thumb hole, with no extra hole used.  The pin is 4 inches from the CG before drilling.  The pin is 5 1/4 inches from my PAP after drilling.

I chose this layout because I have and like the Invasion, but that ball is very early for me, so I wanted to make sure I got good length with this ball.  I only have medium ball speed, and my PAP is 4 1/2 over and 3/4 up from grip center.  The Anarchy and 3.24 oz of top weight before drilling, but the CG is very close to my grip center, making an extra hole not needed, (nor did I want one)

The house I bowl in regularly has a pattern that carries down right into my hook spot.  I was hoping this ball would allow me to go around this area, as the best scores are shot be very straight or larger hook players, which I am really neither one of these.

After using this ball for a few weeks, this is not the ball I was hoping for.  That being said, when the pattern is lighter and/or broken down some, this ball is a beast.  I think a stronger layout would make the Anarchy work well on fresh patterns.  When the pattern is lighter, I can get very easy length and saves plenty of energy for the back end.  This ball is very forgiving for release changes, it doesn't overreact when I grab on it too much, and has a nice, smooth, easy length, almost loping down the lane.  When it reads the dry part of the pattern, it turns left very hard, carries very well.  After about 30 games or so, I have noticed that most of my carry problems are really deficiencies in how well I'm throwing the ball, the ball still manages to find the pocket on poorly thrown shots.  I have some pretty good "hold" when missing to the left, as I said, it really skids on oil.

With a stronger layout, I think the tweeners would be able to use this ball alot, and I would not be afraid to take the surface down some too.  The boomers will probably love this ball with a longer layout, such as the one I used, or pins farther from the PAP and probably use this ball on lighter patterns, or when broken down.  The straight players will really like this ball, with a strong layout.  Straighties can use this ball with the right surface prep on everything but heavy oil.  Invasion, Virtual Gravity, or Reign of Fire would probably better suited here.

Thanks to my man Tyler Jensen with Storm/Roto Grip for getting me this ball and asking me to participate in his survey program.  Bowl up a Storm!!

Intents: I got this ball in the Storm Forecast deal along with the Roto Theory. I never picked up an Invasion mostly because my ROF was plenty of ball for what I normally see. As of late the first ball out of the bag is my Virtual Energy, I wanted the Anarchy to fit above the VE and below the ROF. My VE is laid out pin under bridge with an extra hole just past my PAP. I went with a pin over layout on the Anarchy barely right of the bridge center line, mass bias just to the right of my thumb. As of right now no hole is needed but one may be added in the future after some more use.
On the Lanes: 38' THS on AMF HPL9000 lanes/ used during a 4 person mixed league

Bowler Stats: 16mph at the pins/ higher rev rate

I didn't have time to throw any balls before practice started as I was drilling a couple balls for customers. To start I threw a couple balls from my normal starting position. As I get older it takes me a while to get loose so the practice balls didn't really mean all that much to me, although I did move in about 3 boards from normal using the same breakpoint.

First game XXXXX6/XXXXXX= 276 with a wash-out spare and a couple lucky breaks
2nd game 9/XXXXX80XXXXX= 254 ring 10 & light pocket 7/10
3rd game XX9/XXXXXXX90= 267 4 pin and a light 7 pin

So OOB for 797 was a good start. For me compared to the VE I thought the Anarchy is easy through the front and has more pop on the back part of the lane. For me the VE is smoother through out the lane. I was also impressed with the continuation through the pins with this ball. Like I said this was only one set with this ball so far so I need some more games with it, and I may add a hole depending on what I see in the future. I think this will be another solid product from Storm. I'll update after I get some more use out of it and may possibly throw a video up.

Storm’s  â€œANARCHY”

The “Anarchy” is the pearl reactive version of the Invasion designed for us bowlers that don’t have the rev of the tour guys.
This ball is just “AWESOME”. It is so clean through the heads and the sharp turn at the break point on it’s way to pin crushing results.
I used the same drilling as my “Invasion”. A  4 x 4 with the pin under the ring finger. No extra hole was necessary .My “ Anarchy” was  15lb 3oz, with 2.80 oz of top weight with a 2.5 to 3 in pin.
No surface adjustments were made and its striking power for me was amazing and just three solid eights from another 300. A lot of ball with crushing power and those that know me will be the first to tell you that it’s the ball. My ball speed is around 15mph with a rev rate of 250 to 300.
I have only the opportunity to bowl with ball  on two different house shots .
A}  blended  40’ on Anvilane       B]  blended   39’ on lane shield.
The research and development division of “Storm” has just created the strongest pearl ball ever with a ball reaction second to none.

I have drilled two Anarchy's. I drilled the first one to compliment my Invasion and Virtual Gravity. To allow me to stay in the same part of the lane when  the Virtual and/or Invasion start to read the lane to early as these are the balls I start with on longer/heavier patterns. This Anarchy was drilled with the pin 1" above the center of my grip with the PSA at 45 deg. This makes the pin 5 1/2" from PAP with about a 3 1/2" PSA to PAP. I didn't have to put a weight hole in this ball as the cg was slightly left of the line from pin to mass bias. This is drilled almost exactly like the VG,  the only difference is the VG has a small hole down.

I got just what I was looking for. The pearl cover on the Anarchy allows me to make the switch from the VG or Invasion as they start to hook to soon. The Anarchy is much cleaner through the front of the lane. For me total hook of these balls is pretty close, but the shape is different as the Anarchy sees the friction faster making it more angular.

The second Anarchy is drilled exactly like my Virtual Energy. The pin is above my bridge with the PSA slightly to the right of my thumb hole. The VE has been one of the most versatile balls for me. I was hoping to get the same ball motion only with more hook. The Anarchy was real close. It reads the lane a little earlier than my VE, but is stronger down lane as well. I used the Anarchy on the ToC pattern and it hooked about 3' earlier and around 4 boards more than the VE.

I am finally getting the chance to give a review of two different Anarchies. I drilled the first Anarchy with the pin ¾” over ring, mb in my thumb, with no extra hole and finished the ball with 600/1200 cab by hand. This comes out to a 5.5 x 5.5 layout. The comparison balls will be an Invasion with the pin over ring,( 5 x 5.5 no hole), mb also in the thumb  finished 400/1200 cab by hand, and the other Anarchy 5.5 x 4, pin on grip line, below fingers, with a large extra hole on PAP touched with a used 2000 abralon pad.

After drilling, the first Anarchy had a spin time of 8 seconds on a Determinator.  Even with surface, the ball gets down the lane very clean, with a strong more violent move back to the pocket compared to the other Anarchy as well as the Invasion. Comparing the Invasion and the first Anarchy, using a bit more rev rate, allowed the Invasion to hook up and smooth out the break point. The Anarchy was much more responsive to the breakpoint than the Invasion, due to the energy retained from the pearl R3X cover stock. I was able to get the ball to corner from much deeper on the lane. Once I took hand out of the ball, the complete opposite happened. The Invasion still hooked up, actually about 2 feet earlier on the lane, and made a strong aggressive move back to the pocket. The Anarchy would skid through the middle too much, and give me a bit of over/ under on the fairly fresh house condition.  This is very understandable, considering the very high pin placement of the Anarchy, and slightly less cover prep combined with the high volume of oil in the middle of the lane. I have used the Anarchy in box surface prep, highly polished, as well as with the aforementioned surface prep, and have had no trouble getting the ball to the breakpoint with a trace of oil up front. This ball will work well when I need a long and strong reaction, on flatter conditions, or when they start to burn up, and I have to chase the shot in deep.  This particular layout will struggle on over walled house conditions, or anything that is real wet dry.

The second Anarchy I am going to discuss had a spin time of 5.5 seconds on the Determinator, post drill. As you can see the spin time was decreased by 2.5 seconds! Please notice both balls have a 5.5 in pin layout, the difference being the mb placement allowing for a large extra hole, and longer pin buffer. This Anarchy really likes the fresh conditions! It revs up much easier than the first Anarchy, and changes direction very quickly at the breakpoint, giving me a lot more roll through the back part of the lane. This Anarchy isn't as allergic to carrydown as the first one due to the faster spin time. This ball works great on fresh league conditions, as even with 2000 abralon surface prep, it still gets through the front. The ball motion is more “built in” than the first Anarchy, as differences in rev rate and releases do not affect the ball motion as drastically as the first Anarchy with the high pin, and no hole.

As you can see, the Anarchy can be drilled to satisfy almost any customers’ needs. If you want long and strong to be able to open up the back part of the lane, drill with a high pin, long mb placement, to allow for a longer spin time, thus saving energy for the backend of the lane. If you want the ball to rev up quickly, and have a more defined motion built in, drill pin down, something you can use a large extra hole with and watch this big core rev up and blast all ten into the pit!

No matter what, don't forget to Bowl up a Storm!

This ball is very clean threw the heads i love the reaction this ball gives me. It is a look that no other storm ball has ever givin me in the past. This ball would be great at use after the invation or the virtual Gravity. I have it drilled with a 4" pin with a 80degree MB. I drilled the MB out in the Thumb hole. at a tourny this weekend everyone around me was getting over under with all there balls, i switched to the Anarchy and then it turned this 42'ft pattern we were bowling on into what seemed like a house shot, i just wished i pulle the ball out earlier.

Likes: This ball is excellent. OOB surface is great on a fresh THS. Purchased a jigsaw trap in october and that ball was a dud so this ball is to replace that and it sure did. Ball drilled pin high right of ring finger with cg and mb slightly right of center. This ball has excellent length whether playing straight up or throwing it out. Some of the best carry I've seen and revs up fast. Has a nice move to the pocket with an easy read. great ball if you like storm.

Dislikes: Started to track a little early

Dislikes: THAT I JUST HAVE ONE!

I ended up drilling this ball 5X3X3 ending up with the pin above the ring finger about one inch and the MB about 3 inches to right of thumb...

My first impression was WOW.... this ball its a PEARL in steroids.... for some time i have been using just solids because i like the way they read the lane and prevent the OVER/UNDER, but this ball reads the lane like a solid while giving you a great strong continuation on the backend. First set with it was 227-253-215 for a 695, the few times the ball did not hit the pocket was because i made some mistakes.

I will recommend this ball for those who like ball that rolls a lot w/o rolling out, that want a ball that covers lots of boards but at the same time you can adjust to throw it straight by the 10th board and that at the same time wants control in long- medium-heavy oil.

STORM NAIL IT!!!(BTW FIRST STORM BALL SINCE THE XXXFACTOR)

I got this ball a while back and I really like it.  This is my favorite ball because it has such a smooth roll and works with the backend.  There honestly isn't anything I am going to say against this and I highly recommend it.  I have been throwing it regularly on fresh oil for THS and have no issue adjusting with it over the course of several games.  I have also thrown it on a few sport shot patterns (Beijing, BTM Flat and Montreal) and had no issue getting it to perform on them either.

When buying the Anarchy, I was looking for an extremely strong pearl. I love to play a big ball, stand 25-30, play out to 5, but have found myself playing straighter over the last few months. The covers on some of my arsenal have been starting to track a bit, and I wanted something fresh. My arsenal thus far includes the Virtual Energy, Invasion, Virtual Gravity, Gravity Shit, and Big Hit. (As you can see I'm a Storm fan)

What I got from this ball is exactly what I was looking for. I have it drilled pin above and right of ring, with the MB in strong and long. This ball gets down lane great and makes a left turn off the mark. It took me a few games to get used to swinging the ball again. I average between 222-230 in my two current leagues and just recently had my Virtual Energy crack in half (a new one is on the way). Getting the Anarchy was in perfect timing. My first set of 4 games I shot 879, about 50 pins below average. The second time using the ball shot a 721 (3 games) with a Big four and Greek church split. The third set (4 games) I shot 1033, with a 300 and 279 in the 3rd and 4th game. From the second to fourth game I ran 27 of 28. I left a ringing 10 pin in the fourth frame of the fourth game.

All I can say is this ball is an absolute beast. It will come back from a miss right and hit like a freight train. If you like to swing, this ball is a must have. If you are new to bowling, I would go for something a little weaker and work your way up. Storm did a great job with this ball and I can't wait to see what else I can get out of it!

Balls in the bag and order they come out:
#1- Virtual Energy #2- Anarchy #3- Virtual Gravity #4- Gravity Shift #5- Big Hit (spare and really dry)
#6- Teal Rhino Pro (oldie but a goodie)  #7- Invasion (Only if NOTHING else does ANYTHING)

Likes: The Anarchy for me has alot of back end motion to it. When i first got the ball out of the box i had the guy a the pro shop dill it to snap at the very end the ball was so agesive the first time we where used it the the ball missed both pockets standing on on 30 going out to the 5 board it hit the 7 pin. Once we got a few games on it we found out where to hit and once it hit the ball never stop hooking. I use this ball up at Perry Hall lanes in MD I have a 179 avg and i shoot most of my 200 up there saterday mornings like (226 269 285 256) Are all my highs with that ball. Overall a perfect ball

Likes: First of all let me explain what I mean by modified house.  We have a lot a very good bowlers that demand tough shots from the house.  They have obliged us with various patterns and this is more closer to a sport shot than the THS.  I'm more of a stroker, can hook it but don't have a lot of revs.  Used a typical 3-3/8 inch pin - PAP for low rev players looking get high flare.  This ball surprised me at how clean it rolled throughout.  I usually get a skid flip from pearl balls on slick lanes.  Once I figured it out and got lined up BAM!!!  This ball set up quick and had nice smooth roll through including at the break point and it crushed the pocket... ten in the pit.  I'm the first in our league with the ball but I suspect there will be plenty of others showing up on the lanes.  Everyone kept coming over and asking what I was throwing.  678 first set OTB.  725 and 756 2nd and 3rd set and I'm a 186 average bowler.

Likes: Ball is super clean through the fronts, and reads the midlane amazingly.  My invasion tends to be somewhat speed sensitive.  I have found that attempting to push the invasion through the heads will cause me to throw it through the midlane and will get squirty at the break point.  With the anarchy, i have no fear of rolling the ball knowing it will not read early.  At the spot it is a strong but not drastic move toward the pocket, with great continuation.

I am able to get deeper with the Anarchy than i ever could with my Invasion.  The invasion did not have the downlane recover for inside angles, but i believe the pearl cover on the Anarchy allows this to be the case.

Spent some time with the Anarchy on the PBA Shark Pattern recently.  Offers MUCH more downlane recovery than my invasion, which i am forced to slow WAY down with in order to get it to read.  The Pin Down Anarchy makes a strong and continuous move off the end of the pattern and allowed me to get deeper and deeper as the pattern broke down.

Dislikes: Don't have any dislikes at this time.

Likes:  Second review for ball.  This was on a little shorter pattern with less volume than the 40 feet medium heavy pattern shot on before but the lanes were spotty with some carry down.  Staff said the machine was broke so they didn't strip... just re-oiled the lanes.  My Natural and Reign were hit and miss... kept leaving weak 10's.  Decided to give the Anarchy a try using a weaker release with hand up the back (limits the revs).  The ball ran to the pocket without a whimper even when I missed target.  I'm sure you know of and possibly done it yourself where people like a ball so much they buy another to have on hand.  I have never been one to cater to that notion even though there have been a few balls I wished I had another of after the one I had wore out, cracked or such.  I use to say simply buy whatever compatible new ball out at the time.  I am in love with this ball... which I have never said about any ball before.  I just became one of those that ordered another of the same ball to have on hand just in case.  Actually, I'm thinking of ordering a third.  I can see myself rolling this ball for a number of years to come.  As mentioned in previous post, I expected to a few Anarchy's from other bowlers I bowl with... and I have.  They all love the ball.  Going to try it on as many patterns as I can varying revs, speed and release to see what it does but so far this is without a doubt the absolute best ball I have ever had.

BALL SPECS

Pin Length: 2"

Starting Top Weight: Unknown

Ball Weight: 15lb

DRILL PATTERN

Pin to PAP: ~5.25", 3" pin buffer (pin is barely above and to the left of the ring finger)

MB to PAP: ~5.25" (lightning bolt graphic for PSA touches right edge of thumbhole)

X Hole (if there is one): N/A

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate: 225-250rpm

Ball Speed: 15.5 - 16.5 mph Qubica measurement, so close to 17 or 18 mph off my hand

PAP/Track: 5 1/4" over, 3/4" up, moderate axis rotation and tilt

Here are two sample videos of me bowling (using different bowling balls, but you can see what kind of ball roll I have) -- Video 1, Video 2

SURFACE PREP

Grit: 500/4000 abralon (fresh 500 pad on spinner with moderate pressure, then fresh 4000 pad with moderate to light pressure)

Type: (Matte, Polish, Sanded): Sanded

LANE CONDITION

Two different house shots:

1) Kingpin Lanes, AMF HPL synthetics, ~6 years old. 42 foot typical newer house wall, lots of friction outside 5, quite a bit of friction from 5 to 10, and heavy volume of oil inside 10.  The shot starts out playable from the outside for me, but dries up very quickly because most bowlers tend to stay further outside except for the crankers, and the heads start to go by the start of the 2nd game.  I do not have enough tilt to stay on top of the friction most nights and either have to move deeper and swing into the friction with a weaker ball, or migrate left with a stronger ball and play in the oil.

2) Executive Strike & Spare, old wood lanes. It's a second-shift league, but they run a head fill shot for us most of the time. The result is a very, very defined friction spot in the track area around the second arrow that can result in early hook, with slightly more oil than usual from the gutter to the 7 board, and sloppy backends inside 10.  One of the lower-scoring house shots I've bowled on, I only average around 212-215 in this house when I average 230 at Kingpin and 204 in a PBA Experience league.

BALL REACTION

Length:  Moderate length in oil, but very responsive to friction, so length may not be there once the heads and midlane start to dry up.

Back End:  Very, very strong motion off the end of the pattern.  Quick-revving and a defined hard arc, but it is a controllable motion because it doesn't hook/stop.  The ball revs up and just keeps driving, provided it is kept in the oil long enough to do so.

Overall Hook:  With the 500/4000 surface I use, it covers more boards than any other pearl I've ever thrown (roughly 4-5 boards more than a Gravity Shift with the same kind of layout and surface).  On medium heavy oil, it can hook nearly as much as a Mutant Cell or Dimension, and on medium oil where those balls would burn up, it would cover more boards than them.

Midlane Read:  Even though it is extremely clean through the front part of the lane, it does a good job of picking up in the midlane without expending too much energy or hooking too soon.

Breakpoint Shape:  Extremely defined left turn, but not as violent or purely angular as a Reign.  It's hard to describe, but it's a "rolly skid/flip" kind of motion.

COMMENTS

Likes:  This ball is VERY strong.  I cannot emphasize enough how strong it really is.  Compared to a 4"x5"x1.5" Tropical Heat pearl with the same 500/4000 surface on the same house shots, I must move my feet and my breakpoint several boards left to stay in the oil as long as possible.  The ball is so responsive to the friction that large mistakes right will NOT make it back as easily as they would with the Tropical Heat because the ball will rev up and transition to a forward roll very quickly.  However, it still makes it back enough to leave a single pin spare at worst, and quite often it will strike anyway on a very light hit because of the severe entry angle it generates.  Mistakes inside do seem to hold pocket fairly well, and pin action is again very good even when hitting a little high thanks to the entry angle it can create.

Because the ball is so strong, I am able to move further left and stay away from the early friction created by the soft-handed guys throwing heavy oilers up the friction.  This also lets me stay closer to the area where the heavier handed bowlers are breaking down the pattern, which can help break the pattern down in a way that helps guide the ball back to the pocket.

The ball is also very user-friendly, which is surprising for a strong asymmetrical.  Shots that come off my hand a little flat or lazy tend to still roll up and make it back to the pocket, and shots where I overturn my hand create good skid early, but still roll up early enough to mix the pins up well.  I have yet to bowl under 730 for three games with this ball (though I'm sure I just jinxed that!) because it's so forgiving on those kind of mistakes.

With surface, this is the best pearl ball I have seen for handling carrydown.  I bowled against a team Tuesday night that was full of beginners throwing house balls and plastic, and we saw an extreme amount of carrydown.  During the first game, I struggled to figure it out, but it finally clicked by the end of the game -- I moved five boards right and used a weaker release (like I might use on a fresh sport pattern where I want to control the ball motion) to roll it directly up the 9 board and shot 289-267 back to back. (High flush 7 pin and high flush 4-7-9 split, and one tugged ball where the only non-strikes those games).  Everyone else on the pair struggled to kick the corners out because their balls were skidding longer than usual, and if anyone tried throwing something stronger it wanted to roll too soon, but the Anarchy continued to get down the lane and roll through the pins well.

Dislikes:  This is certainly not the ball to use when the oil starts to go away.  If I can keep chasing the oil inside to stay closer to the tweeners and crankers, it's very effective, but if that friction becomes too prevalent, the ball will expend all its energy early and be hard to control and not carry well.  That is typical of a stronger ball, but still worth noting.

So they've put a very strong rolly core in a pearlized coverstock.  My impression is that the big core dominates the roll of this ball.  In other words, this ball has a relatively controlled backend for a pearlized ball.  The core revs up pretty early creating an earlier hooking ball with some heavy roll.  The challenge with this ball is that with the cleaner cover than the Invasion, if you get it into the heavier concentration, it will labor going down the lane and never make a strong enough move.  To that end, I don't see this ball being a big booming swing ball.  I know that people are used to seeing that from Storm, but this ball reacts nothing like, say the Reign.  This core will turn over all on its own and what the pearl cover does is allow it to go further down lane before rolling as compared to the Invasion.
Because of how aggressive the core is, the ball tends to transition from skid to hook to roll very quickly.  In other words, the hook phase is pretty short.  That would tend to give a ball a more skid/flip reaction, but I don't think I'd characterize the ball as such.  I think the cover balances it out.
The main result is not a booming pearlized ball we are used to from Storm, but a tame, controlled reaction which is very clean through the heads.
This ball much prefers medium and medium-light conditions so that the lane can help it generate friction.

Likes:Went with a 4X4X2 layout on this which is fairly aggressive and have waited to get more used to the changes in my game a session with Chris Sands brought about as far as Thumb pitches and hand positions before posting a review on this Ball.  Like how smooth it rolls and how hard it hits.  At this point seems to be very versitle with hand position changes.  Can play deeper with inside hand position and some cupping although can be a bit speed sensitive on the wet dry to start the night as I found out last night.  Not so much keeping it in the pocket but entry angle in regards to carry.  Pinch slow and it faces early and it's 4 pins.  Stay agreesive and goose one and it goes longer and hooks later and it's 10's.  Drop to underneath though and go with a more relaxed wrist positon at Chris's suggestion and it really smooths out the reaction  and creates room.  This allows me to play about 3 boards minumum farther right and not have the ball jump off the dry.  Lined up setting the ball down about 30, crossing arrows at 17 and break about 10.  Fairly accurate with this release but If i missed a little right ball got back solidly without over reacting off the spot.  Miss in and it still rolled up nicely and put everything straight back.   The way things have been going the past couple years I've had nights when I made a house shot look tough.  With the suggestions on Thumb pitch change and hand positioning Chris made  a few weeks ago and getting more used to them there are times now where I can almost tell off my hand it's going to strike.   I decided to make a commitment to throwing Storm and also just got a Reign Supreme at the same time as the Anarchy and am anciously waiting for the Nano.  But I'm actually starting to look forward to bowling nights again instead of wishing I didn't have to, as well as this years trip to Nationals with a much stronger team.

BALL REACTION and COMMENTS

I have now used the Anarchy for 2 league sets.  The lanes are fresh when we hit the floor.  My average in that league is 222 for 69 games.  Since using the Anarchy I haven't tried another ball during league.  For those 6 games my low was 224 (and that included flagging a 10-pin).  One of my students has used her Anarchy for several weeks and recently had her high league set (a 10-pin leave in the 10th of the 3rd game kept her from her first 800...she finished with 786).

My bottom line for this ball is that it not only hooks but it knows where to hook.  Typically I use the Virtual Energy and target the 12 board at the arrows sending the ball to about the 8 board near the far right range-finder of these Brunswick lanes during the first game of league and as the transition takes place I end up changing balls in the middle of the 2nd game.  Sometimes I use that 2nd ball the rest of the night and sometimes not.  The last 2 weeks I have used the Anarchy for every first ball and other than making slight hand-position changes to increase the skid and flip at times, I have had zero trouble with the transition.  My line has been a little deeper with the Anarchy (compared to the VE) but it's basically the same.  The difference is that now I have a little bit more room to miss left or right by a board or two and still be in the pocket.  With the VE my mistakes to the left ended up being 2-pins or flat-10's...now if it isn't a strike it's a 4-pin.  Wow what a difference!

I never thought I would like a ball as much as I liked the VE but I do.  The Anarchy is it.  I liked what the Invasion did on the fresh pattern but after a game it had to go in the bag.  The Anarchy makes me wish our league was a 6-game set...I'm not ready to stop throwing strikes after just 3 games!

Works great as long as I don't throw the ball with too much speed.  This ball is great, but it is the most speed sensitive ball I have ever thrown.  I throw a full roller and it is easy for me to throw this ball too hard and having it go right past the break point.  When I keep my speed down, this ball breaks hard and goes right through the pocket and just explodes the pins.  Although I bought it for heavier oil situations, it works better for me on lighter oil.

Likes:  This ball clears the heads with ease even with a pin down drilling.  For me this ball is more angular off the spot than my VE, very similar to the 2nd Dimension.  Ball hits the pins extremely hard and is very accepting to manipulation of the hand at release.

Dislikes:   I really start to lose reaction as the polish or shine on the ball comes off  after cleaning  and general use.  This is not a big deal at all, as I simply just add polish.

I have been a Storm guy ever since I started bowling so I am always looking for the next best thing out there by Storm and well I have found it. This ball is truly amazing! The Anarchy is a ball that is very versatile for me, letting me play up the outside of the lane and then letting me progress left as the lanes break down throughout the day, without losing much drive at all. The ball hooks like nothing I have ever thrown before!

I have to say that it is my go to ball out of the bag to start any league night or tournament. I regularly start out my collegiate practices with this ball and I used this ball for most of the time In the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic on the longer pattern. This was due to the pattern allowing for me to get the Anarchy down the lane, finishing with a strong backend that worked really well for a pattern I would have normally struggled mightily on. The ball stores so much energy in the back end and hits the pins hard consistently. Having this ball at the top end of my arsenal gives me that go to ball on the heavy oil patterns that I have been longing to find.

Overall, the Anarchy has been a main piece of my arsenal since moving to 15 lb equipment in the middle of the year, and I know that it has found a spot alongside my Reign Supreme and Fast to build a bag that I know I can take anywhere with me.   Anybody that doesn’t have this ball in their arsenal should open up a spot and buy this ball. You will not regret it one bit!

I have an Anarchy. This is normally the first bowling ball out of my bag. I find this bowling ball a great help in college bowling. I find myself having a hard time hooking the ball when the lane has lots of oil. This ball hooks great in lots of oil! There have been many tournaments in and out of college bowling where I throw this ball. I love this ball because it has great movement on the lane.

My Anarchy has great mid-lane performance. It has a three inch pin drilled pin up with the CG kicked out. The ball provides early hook for a polished cover but rolls very smooth on the backend making for a predictable ball reaction. I have to move only 1 or two boards per game. The ball has the strength of the other high end storm balls, but does not tear apart the oil pattern. This combination provides good consistency that is vital to string together strikes.

I used the ball at box surface on a 41 foot 2:1 ratio oil pattern and was able to play around the first arrow. This is as far out as I have ever been able to play with any piece of equipment. The Anarchy is the strongest ball in my bag and has great hitting power in the pins. I especially like that I can follow a smooth transition, using the ball over a six game block without having to return to my bag for something different. I also used the Anarchy on a 36 foot 2:1 ratio pattern and got great mid-lane reaction with great roll into the pocket. The Anarchy is a smooth ball that is a vital addition to my Storm arsenal.

After thinking about the ball I wanted to fill the gap between my Nomad Dagger and Virtual Gravity Nano, it came down to 2 choices: the Storm Anarchy and the 900 Global Bank Pearl.  Testing both through my pro shop guy with interchangeable grips, I decided to go with the Anarchy.

I have nothing bad to say about 900 Global at all; the Bank Pearl is a solid choice.  However, I found that the Anarchy gives me about an extra 4-6 boards, which makes a difference in heavier volume.  Mine was drilled 4x4x2 with no balance hole, and the pin above.

Throwing a few practice games, I noticed that the ball was flat out great on medium-heavy oil.  I was able to start more towards the outside, throwing from 15 to 8.  The backend reaction is simply great and the ball saved the energy, hitting the pins hard.  As I went further into the afternoon, the oil carried down.  No problem with the Anarchy.  I ended up moving 5 boards further left, going from 20 to 10 and the oil kept the ball on target without any problems.  Also, on a few shots that I pulled, keeping the ball in the oil helped with keeping it on line.  Finally the far outside was playable, being able to go from 10 to 5 and still having a strong backend with good results.

I have no doubt that this ball will complement my VG Nano very well, and it gives me a 1-2 punch for attacking heavy and medium-heavy oil.  It's another great ball from Storm.  If you're looking for a strong pearl that can play multiple angles, you won't go wrong with considering the Anarchy.

Likes:  Very clean in the front, strong backend, excellent carry, plays well with multiple angles

Dislikes:  None so far

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update as of 6/26/11:  Now after having thrown approximately 30 games on this ball, I have started to notice some issues that are making me consider trading this ball.

The big thing is consistancy with the reaction.  I've noticed at 5 different houses that the ball will not consistantly read the lane properly.  In some cases, it will go too high, in others it won't come back.  This past week where I had to be deep on dry lanes to make it playable, my Rising Star was actually outhooking the Anarchy which is not supposed to happen.

I have tried a few things to see if I can get the Anarchy back to where it originally was for about the first 10 games or so.  I did resurface the ball twice, once at 1500 and once at 2000.  So far, the resurfacing at 1500 may have helped a little bit, 2000 made things worse.  Also, I did try baking the ball at the pro shop and oil absorption was not a problem as there was very little oil that came out of the cover.

As of this point, I plan to take it back to the house with drier lanes where I can get in the oil and play deeper with high friction on the backends to see if the resurfacing to 1500 worked out (500 grit + gray scotch brite pad + Storm Step 2).  If it doesn't, then I will probably be looking to trade it for a Roto Grip Infinite Theory.  It may simply be that being a higher rev player (400-430) in addition to higher speed (19-22mph) may not be the best fit for this specific ball.  This is after having it drilled similar to my Storm VG Nano, which has no issues whatsoever and gives me a lot of recovery.  Also, I have no issues with either of my 2 Roto Grip hybrid balls.

I don't want to say the Anarchy is all around bad, because it isn't.  I have seen people throw it successfully, and it was good for the first 10 games that I used it.  It may just be a fluke in my case.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update as of 7/13/11:  I went ahead and did a huge resurfacing on the ball.  The process I used was sanding all sides with 500 Siaair, and then hitting it lightly with the gray scotch-brite pad.  Once this was done, I finished it off with Storm Step 2.  After doing this, it was time to head to 1 of my favorite houses.

This house uses a 43ft house shot which is relatively flat but heavy in volume.  After throwing my VG Nano for the first 1-1/2 games, that ball was starting to leave flat 10s.  Out came the Anarchy.  Finally, it was back to original factory condition where it was long and strong.  With the Nano, I played 26 to 12.  The Anarchy, I made a move where I went to 23, but was keeping the breakpoint around 12-14.  It flat out excelled with having some of the higher volumes of oil.  Even better was once I found that line, I was able to stay with it, and then just make small 1-2 board moves at a time as the pattern started to transition.

My lesson learned with the Anarchy is that it does need oil to shine, and it is a little more condition specific than some other balls out there.  The attempt at the initial surface change didn't really do me any favors.  Then using Xtra Shine to make it even longer didn't help also.  For me, the OOB finish does work best.  Only thing I hated all night with the Anarchy was back to back solid 10's in the 10th frame of my 3rd game.  That 10 pin got what it deserved...being crushed by a spare ball clocked by the radar gun at 25.74 mph.  As for trading it...it will stay in my arsenal.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 4000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Storm Anarchy: 1500 polished
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished

The Anarchy is a great ball to use for heavy oil.  I had it drilled pin up so it goes long and snaps hard, almost always taking out the corner pins.  It’s great at the end of a tournament when the heads are gone and you need something that won’t react early.  It’s also good at the beginning of tournaments as long as the pattern isn’t too long, otherwise, it will never make the turn.  This ball is great for anyone who wants to get reaction when there’s a lot of oil on the lanes.
