Title: Axiom Pearl
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on November 13, 2020, 03:23:50 PM
The Storm Axiom Pearl continues the line of statement bowling balls. This ball uses the same Orbital Core as the original solid version and the NeX (Nano Extreme) Pearl coverstock which is an upgrade to the NRG coverstock. The NeX Pearl reads the midlane and produces an impressive backend. The Orbital Core doesn't require much from the bowler to get it reved up early. This ball matches up best on medium to heavy oiled lanes.

Color: Cobalt/Graphite/Candy Apple
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: NeX Pearl Reactive
Core: Orbital (14-16#)
Fragrance: Peppermint
Finish: 1500-grit Polished
RG: 2.48 (15# ball)
Differential: 0.050 (15# ball)
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium-Heavy Oil
Hook Potential: High

With any new release showing off new technology, I never allow myself to assume what I’m going to see before throwing the ball. After about 5 shots I realized I was expecting something a bit more angular. No big deal though… what I got was something I was missing in my bag anyway. A strong symmetrical pearl that doesn’t go sideways and doesn’t need friction to slow down. Like the original Axiom, this ball reads the pattern early but has a surprising amount of energy left for the back of the lane. And for me, that’s usually my struggle. Get a ball to slow down early, but still have enough to carry. I find I typically have to sacrifice one for the other. It seems the Axiom is going to give me that look.

In my video review, I decided to compare this to the Trend. I could have gone with the low hanging fruit and compared it to the Axiom, but what’s the point. The surface alone tells you they’re going to look different. When I evaluate a new ball, I like to figure out where it differs from other balls in the same category.

Both the Trend and Axiom Pearl have more of an arcing shape on the back end. The difference is, the Trend needs more friction to tip toward the pocket. I found I had to play about 3-4 boards further right to get the same entry into the pocket. The Axiom Pearl gives me the ability to open up angles and error room which is my favorite attribute of any ball.

I have the Axiom and knew I was going to get the Axiom Pearl. I figured this would be a good 1-2 combo for me. The Axiom Pearl is smooth through the front of the lane and really pops on the back end. I can choose to start the night with this ball or when the lanes start to transition I can grab this ball. I figure if I start the night with this ball and lanes start to transition, I can grab my Axiom. I am one that when I have to move left I tend to ball up due to my speed and rev rate. Right now my rev rate is down a bit as I have been having some wrist issues. We also did a fit change to help me out with the wrist issues so I have been adjusting to that as well. I feel like with the Axiom Pearl I do not have to worry about my rev rate as this ball still pops on the back end for me. This will definitely be a ball I take to league and tournaments with me.

I have been bowling in a sport shot league on Sunday afternoon. We are two week in and have been bowling on the 2011 US Women's Open pattern. This ball is one that I take out maybe game 3 or 4 when the lanes start to see some type of transition. I have not bowled in any tournaments yet this season but I cannot wait to see what this ball with give me in tournaments and at other houses.

Storm Axiom Pearl

Layout: Pin 4 x 4 x 2

Rev Rate: 325 rpm

Testing information: 41-foot THS (medium to light volume)

Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center

Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The Storm Axiom Pearl utilizes the NeX Pearl Reactive coverstock wrapped around the new Orbital Core. The shelf appeal of the Axiom Pearl stands out with the Cobalt/Graphite/Candy Apple color scheme. As far as the performance report cards goes, the Axiom Pearl was stronger than I anticipated when compared to the Axiom Solid. I have Axiom Pearl a couple boards stronger overall. The Axiom Pearl reads the mid-lane rather well for a pearl. The reaction of the Axiom Solid is smoother overall. We saw the same thing when helping a friend with his game. Disclaimer – A house pattern can give a false impression so this could change when used on a sort pattern, which is often the case. I am looking forward to using this one in tournament play.

Likes:  The new Axiom Pearl features the same low Rg, high differential Orbital core found in the original Axiom.  The coverstock on this new release is an all new NEX pearl.  This new cover provides excellent traction in the midlane without sacrificing any backend motion.  This ball is a great compliment to the original Axiom as well as any of the big asymmetrical balls.  The Axiom Pearl will give you the control of the midlane you need but will also provide a very strong backend motion.  The pin carry with this ball is some of the best I have ever seen!  I am not usually a fan of pearls on my local wet/dry house patterns, but the Axiom Pearl is the exception.  This ball allows the bowler to play deeper on the lane where there is a higher volume of oil and still has enough energy stored to carry the corner pins.  This ball is a must have in anyone’s bag!

I wanted an Axiom Pearl from the minute I threw my Axiom.  I love the OG Axiom but it is early and strong.  I put the same pin up layout on the Axiom Pearl and it is the PERFECT compliment.  It is cleaner than the OG by a good deal but it definitely hits the midlane hard and has the Axiom shape I loved with the OG.  Sometimes super strong Pearls aren’t the best because they’re just too slow, so they’re clean,
But hard to get through the deck in the transition.  The Axiom Pearl continues a bit more letting me use it much longer than I expected.  If you love the OG Axiom, but need something cleaner, get an Axiom Pearl.

The Storm Axiom pearl is to me the strongest Pearl in the Storm Line today. Love the original Axiom especially on the fresh and larger volume patterns.  So I couldn't wait till the pearl came out.  As when the OG Axiom starts to labor the Pearl is perfect compliment.  The Axiom Pearl just doesnt stop coming downlane.  Very strong arcing backend motion.  Plus the Axiom Pearl carries real well and keeps the pins real low.
Plus the Axiom has great self appeal with its bright colors.

Storm Axiom Pearl Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

After having a ton of success with the original Axiom, I was stoked to learn about the Axiom Pearl.  As expected, the Pearl is a cleaner version with a quicker response time.  I’ve loved the Axiom Pearl thus far and it goes everywhere with me.  I’ve been extremely impressed with how well it compliments the original Axiom and can be used on so many different patterns.

I’ve drilled one Axiom Pearl so far and love it.  I drilled it identical to my original Axiom (5 x 4).   This puts the pin above my bridge and I also left the surface alone.  After using it for a couple months, I’ve have had the most success when my angles have been open and I need a ball to be cleaner through the front with a quicker response time.  As mentioned before, it’s been a perfect compliment to the original Axiom.  I’ve also been able to use it after my Omega Crux and UFO have slowed down.

If you need a low RG, quick response ball that can be used on multiple patterns and angles, drill an Axiom Pearl!

The Axiom Pearl might have just set a new personal record for the fastest that a ball has ever made it into the trusted, "has to go everywhere" pile for me when packing for a tournament. It's exactly what you would expect - a pearlized version of the NeX coverstock from the original Axiom and the exact same core. It provides more traction and stability in oil than any other shiny ball that I've ever used - if you have an R2S Pearl ball that's going too long but equipment like a Phaze II or Axiom are hooking too early, put the Axiom Pearl in your hand and you're off to the races. I don't have any backup blanks of this ball... yet. Because I can already promise you that I'll be drilling more of these. If you don't have this ball you're missing out!

I drilled my AXIOM PEARL up 65 x 4.5 x 35. I have cracked the surface with a used 2000abr pad to help smooth out some of the sharpness of the down lane motion. This layout is a slower responding layout for my game and I wanted to keep the AXIOM PEARL usable.

I have thrown this mainly on league patterns of 41 feet and tried it a couple of times on some of the medium longer patterns in the 40-42 ft range. I put it up against the IQ NANO PEARL, ASTRO PHYSIX, and TREND. For me the AXIOM PEARL was more responsive down lane than the IQNP. The TREND responded sharply but after the AP was slowing down so they were a nice progression. The ASTRO PHYSIX was sharper off the spot when the AP had the transition to the TREND. The TREND was the better move as the ASTRO was sharper and forced me to move another 5 and 2 left and give up some angle to the pocket which made my carry go down. Against the IQNP, the AXIOM PEARL was more motion and would be a good compliment to control a pattern that has evolved into a wet/dry scenario where the IQNP has slowed down too much in back. The AXIOM PEARL with some surface would be a great move left into the cliff.

Storm Axiom Pearl - 35 x 4 x 70 - 1500 grit polished
NeX Pearl cover stock with Orbital Core
The next generation of pearl reactive has arrived! I found this ball to rev up quicker then even a Hyroad Pearl and went through the midlane like a rocket ship and hit the pins like they were toothpicks - that was my first reaction when bowling on newer SPL with a 46 ft house pattern with a bunch of 2 to 2's built into the pattern. I usually "struggle" to be consistent on getting the ball to stay in the pocket area because the conditioner moves around so much at this center with other pearl reactives with symmetric cores and Asys are way too strong to recover after a few games on the pair of lanes. Rolled better with 2000 grit done by hand on my second 6 games with it. I will keep it at 2000 grit because it was just a little more controllable after the pattern broke down. The NeX pearl coverstock is the real deal. Stop by our local Matchmaker and give it a try. Axiom Pearl with not disappoint you.

Couldn't wait to drill this up since I love the Axiom solid so much. The pearl definitely does not disappoint.  I used the same pin up layout as I wanted this to go to when the solid started to slow down to early. The pearl is the perfect step down and does exactly what I hoped. Cleaner through the front with a quicker response down lane while giving me the same look I had to start with the solid.  The best solid pearl 2 ball lineup available!

The Axiom Pearl is the clear choice when you have a fair amount of volume with defined friction. The Axiom and Axiom Pearl are similar in overall strength, but the Axiom Pearl is sharper and more responsive to friction. If a bowler has trouble with the original Axiom carrying the ten pin due to early hook, you can’t go wrong with the Axiom Pearl as the transitional ball as it will surely increase the angle to the pocket and help carry. The Axiom Pearl is my favorite strong pearl in my bag currently and it is a VERY sharp looking color scheme.

The Axiom pearl is HUGE!!!  I am a big fan of the original Axiom so it was a no brainer for me to grab this one and add to my arsenal.  I decided to drill this ball pin below the bridge with a 5” pin.  What I didn’t anticipate is how big this ball really is.  I have to stand pretty far left unless there is a bit more volume up front.  However, I can get pretty far left and this ball finishes with anger every time!  This is by far the strongest pearl in my arsenal which creates a unique spot in my arsenal.  This ball would be ideal for speed dominant or rev challenged players who need that big backend help.  Go talk to your local PSO about this one and go bowl up a Storm!

This Axiom Pearl made a statement the first time I saw it and threw it. The color combination on this ball is aesthetic and the smell is not too over-powering. When I took it to the lanes for the first time I started with the front 8 strikes.

In my YouTube review of the Axiom Pearl, I compared it to the Storm Trend. I would say that the Axiom Pearl is overall 5-6 boards stronger. When both balls got to the breakpoint, the Trend was slower off the spot and the Axiom Pearl was very strong.

I was excited to use this ball with the original Axiom and see the difference in the two as well. The pearl cover is going to make all the difference when the Axiom is burning up too early and not getting the corners out anymore.

The Axiom Pearl is the newest addition to Storm’s Master Line.  The Axiom Pearl is the Perfect complement to Axiom which was released prior to the shutdown of everything.  Both Axioms utilized the Orbital Core which is very versatile and forgiving.  The Axiom Pearl is wrapped with the NEX Pearl Reactive with allows some length but exact grip in the midlane compared to other pearl coverstocks.  The layout I used on the Axiom Pearl with Pin under the ring finger with the cg kicked out.  The numbers should be around 45 X 4.5 X 70 based on my axis point (5 5/8 over and ¾ up).  I have used this layout before in solid or hybrid coverstocks and it was pretty smooth and controllable.  The layout helped the Axiom Pearl start up and was pretty aggressive in the middle part of the lane.  On the Fresh, for me this Axiom Pearl was awesome and very forgiving.  Pearls and I on the fresh are usually a bad experience!  However, as the league session continued the carry down and bad shot making and did not do any surface prep on the Axiom Pearl…  Carry down generated a severe over under reaction.  The next league session I did my usually surface prep with a 2000 pad and it was still the bomb on the fresh and carry down was no problem!  Shot making is an issue… very rusty.  The Axiom Pearl is a must have in your bag very predictable with strength where you need it!

Continuation through the pin deck!
I am still impressed with how the Axiom goes thru the pins. This ball finished over the 8 pin almost every shot. The Pearl NeX cover, although off the top of the chart as the most aggressive Storm Pearl Nano cover to date,  felt as if I didn’t have to fight it thru the front part of the lane. No doubt it definitely needs some oil in the heads, but not an excessive amount in order to get this ball down the lane. The really low RG Orbital core spins up very quickly and maintains that all the way thru the pin deck. We saw almost no deflection from this ball when it hit the pocket. The low rev guy could ride the oil line up the track and had a nice smooth, hard motion on the backend. The medium, stroker style bowler was able to play his regular 10 to 5 baby swing and absolutely crushed the pins. I was able to move left of them, between 15 -20 out to 7-8, and this ball mangled the 1-3. It carried everything by staying on the smooth side and never creating any weird angles. A foot or two longer than the original Axiom and little bit more angular, but not snappy. You can read the lanes and what the ball is going to do very easily, which makes adjustments a cinch. It fits very nicely in that Medium/Strong Symmetrical spot covering a ton of lane conditions for various styles of bowlers. #StormNation

“For all you Axiom lovers, get ready for the next great addition to the Axiom line. The Axiom Pearl is the newest addition to the Storm line. The Axiom Pearl has the same core seen in the original Axiom with a N2X Pearl Reactive Coverstock. What players will see out of this ball is the same characteristics seen in the Axiom, which is control and predictable ball motion, now in a cleaner and more angular version.

The Axiom Pearl is a cleaner and sharper version than the original. I see this ball being best when tougher conditions are on the lanes and you need a cleaner option that's going to give you the most control. I think this ball fits in right above my idol pearl and is probably my first option from going from a solid symmetrical ball to a pearl symmetrical.

Clean and smooth ball motion. Only two words to describe it. Axiom Pearl. Get yours at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop.”

Axiom Pearl Ball Review

Coverstock: NeX Pearl Reactive
Weight Block: Orbital Core
RG: 2.48   Diff: .050

Rev Rate: 325 rpm
Speed: 15.5 mph
Condition: local area house shots and synthetic lane surfaces

All I have to say about this ball is what a great addition to the arsenal. With my speed and rev rate I usually have trouble with the pearl covers giving me too much length and then being too slow or too sharp off the dry. With this core and cover combination I have a readable midlane reaction and a strong or quick response off the dry. This reaction gives me versatility on different bowling center’s house shots in my area because I can see a noticeable change of direction in the midlane and beyond.

Along with the Axiom it is a good 1-2 punch. The motion or shape each ball makes rolling down the lane compliments each other. If the lanes are a little tighter I can use the Axiom to start and just switch to the Pearl without making a big move left or fishing for other balls to use.

From the bowlers I have seen use this ball around town there has not been many who have done big surface adjustments. It rolls well right out of the box and has the same ball motion (shape) for all types of players. This ball definitely needs to be in everyone’s arsenal.

I drilled the Axiom pearl 50x4x25 which gives it great length and a very strong backend. The NEX pearl cover is a great combo with the Orbital core. With having the pearl versions of the Axiom and Proton cover its a great go to ball when the lanes burn up alittle. On fresh this ball let me play the outside part of the lane, but when i could more in it really showed its hook potential. Comparing the pearl to the Idol synergy the Axiom is a hair longer, but more backend where the synergy is "smoother", but still strong downlane. Doesn't look bad in the hand either.

The Axiom Pearl has that big skid-flip reaction that Storm has traditionally been known for. It is certainly a totally different reaction than the original Axiom, which was very rolly and controllable. The Axiom Pearl goes left in a hurry when it sees friction down lane, which lends itself to be very good for when you need to open up the lane. It is very clean in the fronts but maintains a good bit of midlane roll from the Orbital core, but it really kicks in to overdrive in the back of the lane. I find it to be best on a variety of medium oil lane conditions.  Due to the strong backend, however, it is not the best ball for fresh oil. That is when the original Axiom appropriately comes into play.

I drilled the beauty to compare to my current favorite ball, my Phaze 3. Layouts are pretty similar although overall I get about 5-7 boards more hook with a very similar motion through the lane. The Phaze 3 is a touch stronger off the spot down lane but that is mostly because the Phaze 3 is more angular where as the Axiom Pearl is a little bit more forward which gets the ball into a roll just a little bit quicker. So overall more mid-lane dig and stronger reaction. Between the look of this ball and that amazing peppermint smell this ball is going to quickly make it to one of my favorites!

I drilled this Gem with the intention of it being my new house shot killer, she did not disappoint. It gives me a nice strong mid-lane for a pearl which is fantastic to see it control the mid's, and continue through the pins. Something I noticed with my pin carry, all my half pocket hits carried. The Orbital core keeps the pins low and on the deck showing my pin carry has certainly shown improvement with these in my hands. Overall I get a very OG Marvel Pearl motion, very happy to have a new Big Symmetrical Pearl in my arsenal

Storm Axiom Pearl

Core: Obrital

Cover: NeX Pearl

Storm's Axiom Pearl adds a strong symmetric core pearl to the lineup.

First thing I noticed was the pearl went a lot longer downlane than the original Axiom---Awesome!

I really like when the pearl and solid versions are noticeably different (as far as length goes). I hate seeing a pearl go just a bit longer than the solid.

The Axiom Pearl goes ALOT longer than the solid. That extra length help the ball get a sharper reaction.

This is a pearl/solid combo that can be easily played off each other---Again, awesome!

Big strong symmetric pearl...great for house shots and useful on plenty of patterns.

The layouts on my Axiom Pearls are 5.25 x 30 and 4 x 20.

The Axiom Pearl provides the perfect compliment to the original Axiom. It covers a similar amount of boards while being providing the benefits of the pearl cover-stock, cleaner through the fronts and more responsive and angular. However where this ball shines is how well it reads the mid-lane and way it blends the pattern from deep! You can get in trouble with cleaner/shinier pieces on your typical wet/dry league conditions as it tends to want to over read the dry and not hook in the middle. The Axiom Pearl defies this and provides excellent control and inspires confidence when throwing. It is the perfect compliment for the axiom when it begins to get too lazy as you move left. It also has one of most eye popping color combos Storm has given us!

Pick one up at your local pro shop soon, this is a can't miss ball.

Review:
The Axiom Pearl is SUCH a good piece for several reasons. It lives up to the success of the original Axiom. It is in our opinion one of the best complimentary balls that has come out in a long time. Rarely do you see another ball in a line sell BETTER than the original. It is just as predictable (especially predictable for a pearl cover), just as smooth off the spot, and just if not more powerful than the OG Axiom. The thing we love about this line is that there is a large yet still incredible complimentary difference between the two. Often in a line you may experience that when the solid becomes too much that the pearl counterpart is still either too much or just is not fitting with the pattern. The ability to be comfortable moving to pieces in your bag is important and this is exactly what this line provides. We think that is what people are loving with this 1-2 punch.

The Axiom pearl looks good, smells good and rolls great! I really liked the original Axiom for strength and control, but it seemed that when I got in with it I had to be perfect to carry.  The Axiom pearl is the perfect answer for this.  I can open up the lane with it, giving me miss room right when it hits the dry AND left when I miss in.  I have heard a lot of people compare this ball to the Marvel pearl, but I’m not buying it.   This ball feels more like a high performance MVP pearl.  I see a similar shape off the dry, a very strong controllable shape.  Brand new Pearl cover to go along with the once used Axiom core…this ball is a goodie that will make its way into anyones arsenal!

The Axiom Pearl is a perfect compliment to the very successful Axiom.  I had great success with the solid Axiom so I knew this was going to be a ball that had to be in arsenal.  I put a layout of 5 ½ x 6 3/8” x 3” which placed the pin the and in the middle of my fingers with the CG just about in the center of my grip.  I was looking for a layout that would give me that additional length needed when the Axiom solid started to labor down the lane.  This ball allowed me to stay in the same area of the lane as the Axiom solid but retained the energy for the extra few feet down the lane, while going strong through the pins.  If you are looking for a compliment to your Axiom, then the Axiom Pearl is a must have.

I laid out my Axiom Pearl the same as my Axiom, 45*5*30. It gives me fantastic length with alot of continuation. It gives me a very similar shape of my IQ Emerald but the Axiom Pearl handles oil better where as the Emerald needs the pattern to be broken down. Compared to my other pearl covers like the AstroPhysix, Nuclear Cell, its cleaner than both but less change of direction than the Nuclear and less overall but more than the Astro in both areas. The Axiom Pearl provides a great continuous motion down lane but does it with a forward roll and that gives me a very consistent read.

Likes: This ball is great right out of the box. I had mine drilled pin down for more league friendly conditions. This ball exceeded my expectations and was able to use it for most of my league session. The ball reads the lanes very clean and there is a great reaction the lane conditions that we bowl on. I am really impressed and am looking forward to using it more and to see how it works on tournament conditions.

The Storm Axiom Pearl is simply amazing. The ball gets through the front part of the lane very clean, stores a ton of energy, and runs through the pins like a MAC truck. What I like most about this ball is that you can attack the lane from multiple spots. Its Versatility allows bowlers to start and finish league without having to make a ball change. This ball compliments any of the stronger symmetric balls like its counter part the Axiom and is a great addition to anyone's bag. If you are looking for a stronger pearl ball look no further.

The new Axiom Pearl in the Master line of bowling balls from Storm, the Bowlers Company, uses the same Orbital core found in the solid version, but with a new cobalt/graphite/candy apple pearl cover called NeX pearl Reactive. This version comes from the factory with a 1500 grit polished finish. The Axiom pearl numbers in 15lb bowling balls is 2.48 Rg with a differential of 0.050.

I drilled my Axiom pearl with a 4.5” pin and a 4” pin buffer. This layout puts the pin just below my ring finger, as I have a PAP of 5” straight across. Comparing the pearl Axiom to a solid Axiom drilled with the same pin placement, the pearl is cleaner through the front part of the lane, and is a more pronounced change of direction off the spot. This motion is better suited for when the lanes have a bit of play on them, and the backends have softened up a touch, or when there isn’t enough oil in the heads to get a solid Axiom through the front of the lane. The Axiom pearl is also better suited when chasing oil depletion of a  pattern throughout the course of a tournament. I have used the Axiom pearl on many different patterns from sport to challenge as well as blended league patterns, and like it a lot. The pearl Axiom is at least a 3 and 2 move in to find more oil than my Idol pearl, drilled the same. The Axiom pearl is on the list for every tournament that I go to that has a pattern of at least 39 feet in length with medium to medium high volumes of oil. Even though the Axiom pearl has a defined change of direction, it is still very useful on more blended patterns and sport shots that have lower left to right ratios.

I really like the Axiom Pearl. Not only does it have a great color combination, but the performance on the lanes is outstanding. Seek out your local Storm VIP pro shop and drill an Axiom pearl so that you too can bowl up a Storm!

Review on the Axiom Pearl
N2X Pearl Cover
1500 Polished
RG:2:48 Dif: 50

The Axiom Pearl is a pearl I have been looking of since I switched to Storm this year. I drilled the ball 45 x 4 x 45, 15lb ball and left the surface out of box at 1500 polished. I have been looking for a transition pearl that I could use when the lanes break down and I need the extra backend to get out the corner pins. I am also surprised at how strong the Axiom is being a symmetrical ball. It lets me move in and create a better shape getting the ball to turn the corner and go through the pins, which I struggle with. This is just what I have been looking for a great addition to the arsenal!!!

The Axiom is a perfect ball for medium to heavy oil pattern. The Storm axiom pearl for me is the good complement to my nuclear cell from Roto Grip.

The fact that the axiom is an symetric pearl ball with a lower Rg of 2.48 compared to the Nuclear who is assymetric with a upper Rg of 2.52 give me a really good transition ball after that the nuclear begin to lost energy when the oil begin to burned. I'm able to squeeze me inside and the Axiom pass the heads and keep more energy on the back-end.

Another great addition to my arsenal !!

Storm Axiom Pearl is a great compliment to the original Axiom. My Axiom Pearl is layed out with a 5x4x2 just like my Axiom and the only thing I would recomend to do is hit the super shiny cover with 2000 or 3000 just to make it a little less fast in the front of the lane. What I noticed with the Axiom Pearl is that once the front part of the lane is burned up you can move a little left and stay in the same area with your target without losing carry. If your looking for a strong symmetrical pearl then this would be a great addition to your arsenal.

Likes:compliments Axiom perfectly

Dislikes: has to have oil

The Axiom pearl is the newest pearl release in the storm line. This ball is a perfect compliment to the original solid. I absolutely loved the solid and was excited to get the pearl and it did not disappoint. It has the same ball motion as the solid which lets me switch and play the same area when they start to burn up. I had to hit the cover with a 3000 pad just because I wanted it to see the lane a bit sooner during league play. The axiom pearl is a must have
