El Niño X-It
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
The X-It features a combination of the proven El Niño 2000 Motion Control
weight block wrapped in an exclusive STORM PRO-Thane MT(tm) cover stock.
The PRO-Thane MT cover features ACCU-Tread(tm) reactive material combined
with a specific Thermo-Dynamic Response(tm) (TDR) particle load.  PRO-Thane
MT has less particle loading than the PRO-Thane XT (found on La Niña) and
more than PRO-Thane LT loads (found on El Niño 2000) for a truly dependable
reaction.  This weight block/cover stock combination produces reaction the
proper distance down the lane, not too early and not too late for an optimum
angle of entry.

The specifications are: Cover stock: PRO-Thane(tm) MT Particle; Factory
Finish: 800-grit matte; Color: Black/Raspberry; Hardness: 76-78 Rex D-scale;
Weight Block: Tri-Density Motion Control(tm); Radius of Gyration: 2.52
(Medium); Differential: .055 (High); Flare Potential: High (6" plus); Hook
Potential: 20+/18.5 (Dull/Shiny); Length: 4.5 on a scale of 1-10; Backend:
10 on a scale of 1-10; Recommended Lane Condition: Medium-Heavy to Heavy
Oil; Fragrance: Raspberry

I'm back with another review.  This ball I have had for a few months and it still keeps its line that I have been throwing with it for the past 3 months.  I have shot 3 mid 700's, 3 270 games, and a few 250 and 260 games.  This is definately the best ball I have thrown in my bowling career.  I had my ball drilled up with an offset drilling to turn early.  The pin is at 1 1/2 inches right, and 1 inch down (i'm a righty).  The "eye" is overlapping the pin, and the axis hole is drilled 1/2 an inch 6 inches away from the pin.  The ball rolls hard and hits the same.

Beautiful ball by Storm!!

Rate it a 9.9 out of a 10.

Specs:
Righty
Med speed
High Revs

placed the pin at 4.74 inches, mass bias between strong and arc, closer to strong.  Similar to the fire power.

Let's just say I have gotten really good at 9 pin spares.  Carrys the corners, but not the 9 pin!  I have found very few conditions where I can't use this ball.  If there is no oil in the heads, forget it.  But everything else, this ball works wonders.  I really like the cover on this one, it has one of the most dependable and consistent reactions of any ball out there.  Truly an awesome ball. Always in the A-Bag.

ALL I HAVE GOT TO SAY IS WOW!!!!!!
THIS BALL CUTS OIL LIKE NO OTHER ONE I HAVE EVER
SEEN! GIVE THE BALL 5 BOARDS OF PLAY AREA AND IT WILL
SMASH THE PINS. NO PLAYING TO TIGHT, BECAUSE IT DRIVES SO HARD
IT WILL LEAVE SOLID 9 PINS! I SHOT 704 OUT OF THE BOX WITH
IT. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A BALL TO CUT HEAVY OIL THIS IS
THE ONE! IF YOU GOT ONE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE IT.

After reading a lot of info on this ball,i decided to try 1 out.i've had this ball for several weeks now and have bowled many diffrent oil patterns on it.i drilled this ball with the pin at 12:00 direction from the cg right just right of my hand.this is a strong ball no doubt about it.it gets down the lane very easy and it gives me a strong roll.the carry is amazing, hard hitting hitting power.i like the way the pins stay low to the deck hits the light pockets and still have enough energy, power for carry.for my style i through between 19-21 and to have a ball with this much power and consistency is just right for me.this is a ball that looks and wants oil.scale 1-10(9.5)                       great ball storm.

I picked up an El Nino X-it late in the spring and have been playing with in since in my summer league.  The ball is drilled 4 X 5 with a weight hole on the PAP.  So far, I love this ball.  Storm equipment and I have not always matched up very well.

The El Nino X-it gives me the ability to move left into the oil and still have a ball that will turn the corner hard enough to carry out those pesky weak 10's.  The ball is not flippy for me but is very continuous through the pin deck.  My best surprise with this ball is how well it carries, especially the off hits or 1/2 pocket hits.  With my slower speed and rev challenged release, I usually am in trouble when forced deep, but this ball has given me new confidence to move left and still carry.

The El Nino X-it is a winner and I recommend it.

The El Niño X-it is one of my favorite balls for long oil patterns.  I drilled this ball leverage which gave me great control in heavier and longer oil patterns.  I am not able to use this ball in my house though since it is too aggressive!  This is my go-to ball at the beginning of tournaments.  Nice roll and very controllable.

This ball hooks a lot, can get thru a good amount of oil and get to the pocket with great force and power. So that is what makes this such a good ball. I like it because it helped me bowl one of my highest game yet a 264.

I would rat this ball a 9 out of 10 and it is a great ball from storm.

This is a follow-up to my earlier review.  I bought my X-it for use on medium heavy to heavy longer oil patterns and chose a low RG drilling pattern.  Here is the low RG layout:

Pin to PAP: 3 1/2" with the pin just right of my ring finger
CG to PAP: 2 1/2"
Mass Bias: 1 3/4" right of my thumb
Weight Hole: 2 1/2" below my PAP on the positive axis line

Since my last review I have been able to bowl in a few different houses on a variety of conditions.  I have struggled with this ball on a lot of typical medium oil house shots.  Even on heavy oil, this ball has not worked well for me.

This past week I bowled on a heavy longer oil pattern with dry outsides very clean backends and the X-it came to life (what ball wouldn't on this condition).  It cleared the heads with ease, read the mid-lane well, and made a nice strong move once it found the dry.  I was able to hit the pocket with authority and kick out 10 pins all night long.  This was the first night I had been able to use my X-it with success shooting an outside line (10 to 12 at the arrows with a 6 board belly).

I can only give the X-it a 6 out of 10 (and I think that is generous).

Bought this ball 2 weeks ago, to use for heavier oil conditions. Needless to say, this ball hooks more than I expected. I am a lefty, so it is driled with the pin about 1/2" left of ring finger, with a balance hole. With my Eraser, I play over 3rd arrow, bellying it out the the 5 board before it makes a movgeto the pocket. With the X-It, I am playing over 4th arrow, almost to 5th arrow, playing out to the same point and it is still coming back. My normal house shot I bowl on is a 40 foot defence oil, about an 8 to 8 spread, with real light oil outside. I also am in a sport bowling league and the shot we are currently on, I am still playing inside, and the ball is coming back with force. I am still getting used to the ball moving so much, for usually I get my balls drilled for length, but that was not allowing me to get through real heavy conditions. This ball gets through the oil no problem. I have however left quite a few splits, but that is just me not playing the lanes to the full potential. Kicks out 7pins all day long however. All in all, a 9 out of 10. Once I play the hook more, it will be a 10 out of 10.

I bowl for a college team, so I basically have tried various ball company products.  Had this ball for about less than a year now and it still does the job.  The ball surface is out of the box, 800 grit, 16lbs, with drill pattern of medium hook and a balance hole.  On dry lanes this ball will definitely hook.  I usually though bowl with it on heavy oil synthetic lanes.  What can I say?  The ball still hooks although not as much as on less oiled lanes.  I bowled a 278 not to long ago with it.  With this being my first storm ball, I give it a 9.721812 out of 10!

I have to say this is one of the better balls that Storm has produced.  I probably had over 300 games on mine and without being resufaced and it still does the job.  My son who is 15 and a lefty just started using one and shot a 740 series with it.  Definitly a 9 out of 10.

MB 3.5 from VAL
pin 5 from PAP
CG 2.75 from PAP
1-1/4 Weight-hole (two inches deep) on PAP

I do not remember what the statics are on the ball, but I am guessing it's somwhere around 1.5-2 oz TW and 1/4, 1/4 for finger/side. (The ball started with 4.25 oz TW, and I have no finger inserts and a Donkey thumb sleeve.)

Anyhow, I love this ball. Although I must constantly keep it polished (I use Finish 2000 by Turtle Wax, a urethane polish -- yes, I know it is recommended that you use ball polishes), the ball does wonders. This ball creates about three boards of mistake area for me.

It gets through the heads with relative ease, however, it will stand up quickly if the lane dries out too much. For some reason, backends in Hawai`i are really soft, so I am not certain how the ball would react on squeaky-clean backends.

The ball works very nicely on the condition set-down for the Thursday night league that I participate in. (First shift, oil 10-10. Day play shot is 1-1. I am not certain of the oil volume, but I think it is 45 units. They seem to oil 25 ft and buff to 45.) Although I catch myself moving every four frames or so, it is a predictable adjustment.

My only gripe with the ball is that it makes me really lazy.

A very readable ball, with excellent hit.

I give it 23 cans out of a case.

I recently purchased a Reaction-Ricochet by Columbia, so I will try to post a thorough review of that ball when I finally get it drilled.

FWIW, I believe Active Attack is the coolest cleaner-polish on the market. The only negative (I believe it is a positive) is the tendency for it to stain everything sky-blue. 8^)

I think after owning this ball for almost a year,
that I should finally post a review for my 1st
ball "out of the bag".

Pin at 12 o'clock under fingers, pin in 1 3/4"
MB in track

I forget the t wt though.. I polished this ball 1st thing
with 1500 grit, black magic polish.

I just can't believe I didn't drill this ball up sooner, oh,
probably when this one 1st came out.. I waited too long and
it has cost me money LOL..

Length, roll, arc, very readable ball.. what more can you say
that you want in a particle ball. After an easily 250 games, I
have yet to touch the surface and I've got exactly the same
reaction now as I did day 1.

Thank you STORM

I just drilled this ball a few months ago, I CERTAINLY WISH THAT I HAD DRILLED IT EARLIER.
I have thrown my first and secong 300 games with it, two in the same week in fact. My consecutive series have been 714, 765, 764, 723, 714, 694, 713, and then the following sunday there was simply "NO OIL", and the ball was useless.
I switched to my WRATH, and shot 613.
This is the best abll i have ever thrown, not just from the scores, but from the readability, and the back end smooth hook. This ball does give me an advantage over my competition, it gives me an "AREA" that nobody else seems to have. I am going to drill up another one with just a little less back end. I AM USING IT "OUT-OF-BOX" FINISH.

Without a doubt the best damn bowling ball I have ever thrown. This ball alone made me reach the point of trying most of the balls Storm comes out with.
I had the bridge break out around the fingers and Storm replaced the ball for me. Never got the same reaction out of the second that I did with the first. A different guy drilled the second one.

This ball hooked alot, but was not the big hooker in my bag at the time, that title belonged to my Rock On, but it was not far behind. The Xit carried great on light shots. If I left a 10 pin it was on the really hard pocket hits, never left a weak 10.

I liked it better once it soaked a little oil up though. For some reason it just seemed to hit harder once that occured.

All in all a great ball, I could use it as long as the heads were not burned up, the backends could be flying and this ball still worked well.

10 out of 10, and I never give 10's!!!
