- Description: For the Frantic, we wanted a reliable, proven coverstock that would provide a clean glide through the heads and attack the drier boards on the backend. R2S, the second generation of Reactor coverstock material, is the perfect choice as it does just that.
With a pearl and a solid version available in the line, we prepared a hybrid version to see if it blended both power and control. Armed with the exact same coverstock as the Hy-Road, it proved itself quickly during the testing process and moved on to the next phase, surface preparation.
With a 1500-grit polished finish, the new Frantic was impressive during C.A.T.S. testing as it created three times the entry angle of the 2Furious.
Looking under the hood, you’ll find the innovative N.O.S. Core. When compared with the Turbine Core, we created an increase of flare potential by more than 15% with this higher volume core. Wrap this core with the same coverstock as the Hy-Road and it’s easy to see why the bowling world is sure to be frantic over this new masterpiece!

FRANTIC review by Storm staffer Jeff Richgels
The bright orange and green FRANTIC is the latest ball in the Hot Line that includes the 2FAST and 2FURIOUS. The FRANTIC has the exact same R2S hybrid coverstock used in the extremely popular HY-ROAD with a 1,500-grit shiny finish. The core is the N.O.S. The combination produced three times the entry angle of a box finish 2FURIOUS, according to CATS testing, Storm says.
Here is the tech data from Storm's site.
The HY-ROAD was one of the most popular and successful balls Storm ever made but it was an all-or-nothing ball for me. It was a monster at times, including the last five games of minor events at the 2009 USBC Open Championships when we finished second in team all-events. But it also often was too much for my moderate speed, tweener rev rate (about 325), with a lot of solid 9s, 4-pins and ring 10s. I drilled a couple of different HY-ROADs and plugged and re-drilled one searching for a perfect combo but there wasn't one for me.
So I was excited but apprehensive when I heard the FRANTIC would use the HY-ROAD cover with a different core. My hope is it will give me a slightly different look and be a monster for me.
My doubles partner Steve Richter suggested that I not drill it too aggressively, so I put the pin in my middle finger with about a 60-degree drilling that has the CG near my thumb.
The numbers turn out PIN-PAP 5 1/2 inches, "MB" (it's a symmetrical)-PAP 4 1/2 inches and pin buffer 4 3/4 inches.
I've only used it twice so far, both at the Fusion Realtors Open weekend in Waterloo, Iowa, Sept. 16-18.
On the very heavy oil house shot in the pro-am, the FRANTIC was not the best match but that was to be expected with my style and the 1,500-grit shiny cover. It had trouble with the huge volume of oil.
That turned out to be very unfortunate for me as the next day during the tournament I didn't try the FRANTIC and it probably was exactly what I needed. I ended up finding my best reaction the last portion of the 8-game tournament with a high-pin box shiny REIGN.
I was leery to try to the FRANTIC because I just didn't know what to expect from it and I like to use equipment that I understand the reaction of.
After our squad ended while they oiled from the other end of the house, Lew Wemett of Storm shot some video of me with the FRANTIC. If and when that video is posted, you will be able to see the reaction I had on what was a very low-scoring, demanding lane condition.
The FRANTIC rolled awesome — down the lane so clean with a very hard move to the pocket, giving me a touch more room but far more striking power than the REIGN.
My early analysis of the FRANTIC is that it's a longer and sharper version of the HY-ROAD, or perhaps a stronger version of the T-ROAD PEARL.
All I know is that it gave an energy storage and back-end move nothing else I tried that day gave me.
I can't wait to get some more action with the FRANTIC to see what it can do.
Unless you have a lot of hand, I wouldn't plan to use the FRANTIC on heavy oil, but when the lanes are hooking/broken down, this might be the go to ball you are looking for – especially if there isn't an extreme puddle in the middle.

BALL REACTION
Versatility is the word when discussing the Frantic. Heavy handed bowlers will want to take some of the shine off. When I put fingers in the ball it went absolutely sideways off the spot. When I moved in and took the hand out, I had great control with power at the pins.
I think this is the best ball Storm has made since the Hy-Road. I love the Hy-Road so much that I have a couple stashed away. I wanted to see how this ball would compare to the Hy-Road so I drilled the Frantic identical to my favorite Hy-Road. The Frantic is a little cleaner in the front and a little more angular in the back.
COMMENTS
Likes:
The ball is exactly what I was hoping for. It is a little less than my Hy-Road and more than my Victory Road (drilled a lot weaker)
Color scheme is very cool.
Dislikes:
The ball was a lot snappier when I put something on it. But, that could be rectified by a surface adjustment.

LANE CONDITION
Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Stone Street
Likes: This ball will match up to most medium THS that people will face. It is a relatively versatile piece as you will likely be able to use it on most fresh shots and just get deeper as the night goes on while still maintaining pretty good carry. The core offers a pretty smooth overall reaction while the hybrid cover compliments it by allowing enough length to store just the right amount of energy at the pocket. The Frantic is a nice compliment to the other balls in the lineup and as many other hybrid pieces, seems to be a bit more than the sum of its parts in terms of what it has to offer as compared to it's solid or pearl stablemates.
Dislikes: I really dislike the colors. Pretty vain, I know. I just feel like you need to turn off the lights and go cosmic bowling but I guess that's the fad...

This Frantic is one of the best rolling balls ever. With the color and reaction people see with this ball. Heads have been turning to see what it is and how will it work for them.
It works great! This one should be in your bag!
Can you say honor scores?
The core and cover combo is awesome. It's nice to know I will be able to have this ball with me in future tournaments. League has been turning around since throwing it. Averaging 665+ each week so far. Loving it!

Likes: The Storm Frantic is a perfect fit for the Hot Line. A hybrid cover on on the N.O.S core of the 2fast and 2furious is a guaranteed winner. The 2fast is one of my favorite balls, and now it has a very close companion in the frantic. When the 2fast is a lil too long down lane and you would like something that will pick up sooner but not as soon as a 2furious, the frantic is your ball. It reads the midlane much more predictably and has a very continuous motion through the pins. A very good addition to your arsenal if your a stroker or higher rev player. Not a surprise that Storm has blessed us with another winning creation. Bowl Up A Storm!!!

As I started writing the review for the Frantic, many thoughts and opinions have come to mind. First things first, I will discuss the most obvious item, the bright green and orange color. This is the first time, to my knowledge that Storm has used these two colors together. The green reminds me of the Bolt, and the orange looks like the orange used on the Screamin Banshee. This color combination is interesting, to say the least. Although this color combination wouldn’t be my first choice, just about everyone who has seen the Frantic on the ball returns, loves the look! People will know what ball is rolling down the lane, when they see it from a distance!
Now, the important stuff. The Frantic has the same N.O.S. core found in the 2Furious and 2Fast. The cover of the ball is a hybrid, which combines both solid and pearl. This version of hybrid is the R2S, just like what is found on the HyRoad. The box finish is 1500 polished.
The balls that I will be comparing to the Frantic (5x5 pin up) are the 2Furious (5x4.5 pin down), 2Fast (5.5x5.5 pin up), and the Tropical Heat pearl (red and blue with a 5.5x5.5 pin up). Clearly, the intent of the Frantic is a “fit” ball between the 2Fast and 2Furious. While using the three, I found the Frantic to actually cover the most boards of all three (on a side note, this is the same thing I saw when comparing the previously released R2S covered T-Road Pearl, solid, and HyRoad). It is much cleaner through the front of the lane than the 2Furious, but picks up earlier than the 2Fast with just as much down lane motion as the 2Fast. This reaction allowed me to chase the pattern in, and have plenty of recovery. When I get in this deep, I generally look to pick up my Tropical Heat pearl, cause that ball saves enough energy to come off the spot from anywhere for me. Actually, I have been looking for a ball to give me the reaction that the Frantic has been showing. I have the Tropical Heat pearl, but when there is a little more volume, the Tropical pearl sometimes is too angular when squaring up, but too weak when staying in. This Frantic has filled that gap. It reads the oil a lot better than the 2Fast, and still has that strong backend reaction.
I view the Frantic as one of those balls that will work for the one ball bowler. It can have enough bit with surface added for medium heavy volumes, and plenty of length, with the box finish, for medium conditioned lanes. Since most league conditions fall in to this range of volume, the Frantic will be seen on the ball racks at many bowling centers across the country. The performance of the Frantic, and the other two balls with this core, FAR out perform their price point. With the performance, price, and bright shelf appeal, you will see many bowlers getting “Frantic” this bowling season!

I drilled my Frantic with a 65 X 4-1/2 X 40 degree dual angle layout. I used a 7/8” drill bit to drill an extra hole and inch below my axis point, 2-1/2” deep. Building off of the success of the R2S Hybrid Reactive coverstock used on the Hy-Road, the Frantic comes with the same cover on top of the N.O.S. core that was used in the 2Fast and 2Furious. The Frantic compliments my Hy-Road very well. It is the perfect step down when my Hy-Road becomes stronger than what I need. The hybrid cover also helps the Frantic read the mid-lane sooner than a pearl cover, which makes the backend reaction smooth and predictable. The Frantic still goes a little longer down the lane than my Hy-Road before starting to make its move, and creates more angle at the break point. Also, I am able to go to my Frantic from my VG Nano Pearl and Marvel Pearl without there being a huge gap in between each ball in terms of reaction, if necessary. Overall, I am very impressed with the Frantic. For any bowler needing a strong, predictable reaction at an affordable price, the Frantic is definitely the way to go!

The Frantic is very clean through the heads. The hybrid coverstock reads the midlane just a little bit, and then is ready to grab off the back of the pattern. The NOS core is a heavy rolling core, but with the Coverstock/Core combo, there is no shortage of angle off the end of the pattern. It reads very similiar to my Hy-Road, but is less angular and more powerful. All together, this ball is exactly what I was looking forward to, and definately one of my favorite balls!

The Frantic is a great ball for when the lanes start to dry up. If you have a Hyroad or even a Roto Grip Nomad Dagger which is another hybrid the Frantic will be a great transition ball after your Hyroad or Dagger starts to hook too soon. With the awesome color scheme it looks cool going down lane and everyone ask me during league “what kind of ball is that?!?...that is a cool color looking ball!” You cannot miss this ball on the lanes. I am a big fan of the mid to low performance hybrid balls and anyone else who is a hybrid fan you for sure need the Frantic in your bag!
I have a video on youtube and a picture of my ball and the layout on facebook. If you have any questions about the Frantic email me at grichardson7716@aol.com.

Likes:Ok I might be the odd ball, but I like the colors... In my desire to move back to Storm products this caught my eye as mabye something that would get a little farther down the lane than my VR Solid but still have plenty of pop on the backend.
So far ive left the coverstock OOB, but that is going to change. With the layout we used im not getting the length I thought i would and when it catches the dry its like someone kicked it left. The hitting power and continuation is very nice when I manage to get it to the pocket.
Gonna take it to 3000 and polish it to see if I can get some extra length and if not will be plugging and redrilling.
****UPDATE****
Surface is now at 3000 no polish.
Now I have a few good things to say about the Frantic. No more skid skid skid go left
In the heavy oil house I brought the Frantic out in the 2nd game. Still got a good push through the mids, big thing is when it starts reading the dry its not over reacting but making a strong but controlable arc to the pocket.
It did get a little squirty in the heavy if tugged and didnt make the corner but thats my fault and not the ball.
Even tho its only 1 night, I have some confidence going forward I will be able to use the Frantic on a variety of shots with excellent results.
Dislikes: I guess the scent on this one is fairly horrid.

Likes:The Frantic has the same cover as the popular Hy-road (R2S Hybird coverstock) with the N.O.S. core which was used in the 2 Fast and 2 Furious.
Very bright colors in Orange/Green which has great shelf appeal. The Frantic is cleaner through the fronts more angular off the spot than the Hy-road.
Be careful not to drill this ball too strong as the Frantic loves friction and can go sideways off the spot.
But if your looking for a ball for when the lanes get a little broken down, and need to open
the lane up the Frantic is that ball. Storm Sales Rep Doen Moos suggested for me to drill it pin down with a 4 inch pin to create some flare and control the backend motion.
This is exactly what this drilling gave me. As I shot 801 series in league where the pair was more on the hooking side that night, and I just kept chasing it in with great carry.
I compare this ball to being a stronger version of the popular T-Road Pearl.
Dislikes : The Frantic doesn't handle a large amount of oil very well, except maybe for the heavy handed players.

LANE CONDITION
THS approximately 40 feet
Wow! That's what I said when I saw it move down the lane. It reminded me of the very first reactive resin ball I threw (Xcalibur) because of the dramatic move off of the friction. That ball can just plain jump off of the dry.
I read previous reviews before I drilled the Frantic and being an owner of the Fast & the HyRoad I understood the potential for this ball to go left. So, the layout I chose was lengthy and NOT flippy. I used a 5" x 5" x 3" buffer believing that I could use this ball to play the lanes when they broke down and I had to move left and needed a little help on the backend. To my surprise I can use this on the fresh pattern by just moving further left and being sure not to overthrow it. My first full league with it I struck 20 out of 24 shots in the first 2 games. In the 3rd game I got confused on the left lane and never adjusted correctly but still struck 4 out of 6 shots on the right lane. I know I'll be getting a lot of use use from the Frantic....and I won't be feeling frantic...confidence & trust will be more like it!
The way the Frantic moves compared to the VG Nano Pearl, I would say that the Frantic is a mini-me to the Nano Pearl. Both are "WOW" reactions for me!

Hello everyone and thanks for reading. YouTube video for this review is here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/CompetitiveEdgeBowl?feature=watch#p/a/u/2/D49cl-N2Fpc
Great reaction. Great Hitting Power. Clean through the heads. Good Midlane and strong arcing backend reaction. I used a slightly different layout on this ball for me so i could use this as more of a benchmark ball. Surprisingly enough I have been able to use this ball on a number of different conditions. Viper, Chameleon, Scorpion are the main three this ball gets used on but I have scuffed it up and used it on longer patterns like Shark too. The ball I decided to review against was the Heat Indigo Violet because I felt it was a close comparison for my arsenal. The Hybrid cover allows the Frantic to go down a little longer and still maintain ease of use on heavier volumes and get down the lane on the lighter ones. You can see the arc phase is a little earlier and longer than the Heat Solid and the ball continues through the pins and just doesn't want to give up. Great Benchmark for any player and this one is staying in the bag for a long while to come.

Storm Frantic
Pin and CG stacked next to ring finger, medium width/depth hole just below midline.
First off, I LOVE the color of this ball. Some don't, but personally I LOVE orange and neon green. It
smells great too. Now on to the thing that REALLY matters- performance. I was shocked by just how
smooth and controllable this ball was. Usually the shinier Storm stuff is so strong off the spot that
I find a lot of conditions that I have to revert back to surface or a Roto Grip ball, but this ball
totally breaks that mold. Clean through the front, strong roll in the midlane, excellent continuation
and enough hit to get the job done (I have issues getting really poppy balls to carry the 10, but no matter
how this ball seems to get to the 1-3, the pins seem to fall, UNREAL). It was versatile enough to
knock 2 other balls out of my regular rotation of equipment, so it's a space saver for me too! Gotta
love it!

The ball is as strong on the backend of any ball Ive ever thrown for the 1st game and on clean backends. After 6 games of league though my opinion of this ball is once the oil carrys down this ball is worthless. So far it is the worst ball i have ever thrown once carrydown becomes prevalent. Iam still going to give this ball another chance but as of now this ball is hard to recomend!

Lay Out: 5" from PAP at 50* PAP angle and 40* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 50/5/40. The pin ended up above my ring finger by about 1" and the CG was right of my ring finger. I did put a weight hole in it on the axis. This is one of my favorite lay-outs.
Surface: I have thrown it at box finish of 1500 Reacta-Shine.
Purpose: I wanted to drill up something that gave me a skid-flip look when the lanes start to breakdown towards dryer outside boards with some slight push needed in the front.
Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on both versions of our house pattern and on a Kegel challenge pattern "The Middle Road". Our house shot has 2 versions: A league version and a "weekend-open play" version. The league pattern is 38 feet with more head oil, the Open play shot is 40 feet with lighter volume. The surface is Pro-Anvillane. The Frantic has a late mid lane read and gets moving later than my Crossroad. The move in the back is nice and strong, more of a flip or quick pop. On the lower volume pattern, the move was even stronger more of a "wheel" type of look. The challenge pattern required me to close my angles down a lot. This ball needed to be thrown when this pattern is really broken down and hooking which I didn't bowl long enough to do.
Other Ball Comparisions: I did get to throw it some side by side with my Crossroad, Reign, and Trop Heat-Hybrid. Crossroad was stronger as expected, but the Frantic did give me a more push when the Crossroad got too early in the fronts. The Reign was slightly stronger in comparison also and that should be due to ball composition (motor). The THH was just slightly earlier than the Frantic. I keep this ball with a 2000 surface/pin down due to having nothing to ball down to after my Reign. I may take the surface back up since the Frantic pushes easier.
Final Thoughts: The Frantic is a great piece. It has a very strong flip type look the way I drilled mine. I get the impression that it could be dulled to smooth out the look if needed. This would be defeating the purpose though as this is all skid-flip. Put this one in your bag if you need the ball to get length and recovery down lane. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Storm has stepped it up again with the Frantic. Having the Hy-Road, I knew that the R2S Hybrid cover was a great match for my game. Then throw in the N.O.S. core which is proven on medium and lighter patterns and you have a true winner.
Stats: 19-22mph, 380-420 revs, low track. Bought with a 3" pin to CG distance, I used my standard 4 x 4 x 2 layout with the pin just to the right of my ring finger. This is a layout that I really like to use on most of my arsenal as it gives me a good combo of length and backend while being predictable. I'll tell you one thing- the Frantic has not disappointed.
On league nights, I've been taking out the Frantic to throw in the 3rd game, when my Infinite Theory or Outlaw become too much. On the broken down 41 ft pattern, the Frantic is clean through the front and is angular on the backend. With my ball speed (can throw up to 22-23mph), this becomes a great option for me later on league nights, because I can stay further outside than some others in our league and essentially control that portion of the lane. If I need to move left, the Frantic has no problem keeping up. The cover/core combo easily has more than enough energy to recover, carry well, and kick out the 10 pins.
Now, I have also thrown the Frantic at the beginning of league nights when the volume has not carried down. The Frantic has performed well, but can be a little over/under in some cases with volume. If you have a ton of hand, it can work out well with heavier volume. In my case, it's a great ball when the lanes start to burn up.
Comparing this to the Rising Star that I previously threw in the past, the Frantic is a little cleaner through the heads, still has a good midlane read, and is a little more angular on the back, similar to a hockey stick motion. The Rising Star reads more in the mids and has more of a hard arcing motion. In my case, longer with more angle in back on the burn works out better.
Overall, I find the Frantic to be a great option and it earned a spot in my bag. If you love the Hy-Road, this will be a great step down when the Hy-Road becomes too much. If you haven't tried one, you're missing out. This is one of the best pieces I've thrown from Storm.

Review- Storm Frantic
Nick C. BowlerX staff member
Weight- 16lbs
Surface- 2000 abralon
Recommended lane condition- medium-heavy oil house shot
Pin Placement- 4-5
I drilled my Frantic with the cg on the center of my grip and the pin to the top right of the ring finger.
I left the frantic surface out of the box initially and will say I was very surprised at how strong this ball is.. I was thinking it was going to be one of the weakest in my line but turned out to be one of the biggest hookers I had. I found that out of the box shine caused the ball to be very "flippy" ... as soon as it touched the dry it was "dead left" as some may say. Since the abralon pad this ball is amazing just gives the ball enough of an early roll to make it controllable and predictable. I will also say this is one of the hardest hitting balls there is... when a good shot is made, this ball absolutely destroys the pins.
If you are looking for a ball that is in my opinion one of the best values in bowling then I suggest the frantic from storm. this ball offers a wide array of options and tons of carry power for a very small price. Visit the friendly staff a bowlerX.com and check out the Storm Frantic.

Frantic
My bowling style is using a good amount of revs and throwing the ball at about 16.5 miles per hour. This year, I bought a 16 lbs Storm Frantic. The ball is very strong for me because of the amount of revs I put onto the ball. Because of this, at the start of a tournament, this is a really good ball for me. As the day goes on, starts reacting a lot earlier and I have to switch from a four step to a three step approach. However, the ball is still controllable when it gets to the point of being aggressive, I just don't see it as quite as consistent for me.

For coming back into bowling after several years as a beginner, the Frantic served as a good ball. My style was that of a straight thrower at first and transitioned to a stroker, and the Frantic’s reactivity helped with this transition. I find the Frantic to be useful during lighter oil patterns where it can hit the pocket dead on by playing up straight on the right. With my style though I cannot throw it too deep, and stick usually to the 10 board. Consistency is a bit of an issue for me however with this ball. Overall it’s a ball I can turn to late in the game to keep up the pace.

I was not very pleased with this ball as it reacted too late on the lanes and glided into the pocket with my stroker release. I was expecting it to read the lanes and snap more but it has more of a long arc to its path. I rarely use this ball unless the pattern is very dry. Overall, this ball is great for higher reving players but I can only use it on low to medium oiled lanes.

Likes: 4000 Abralon= Completely different ball! Good coverstock versitility. Hits like a truck.
Dislikes: OOB finish: Very jumpy off dry and didn't like carry down, over/under reaction, and sensitive to amount of hand put on ball.
Overall: This ball is OK in OOB finish. On a fresh shot it works well but can become jumpy off the spot. When you see people write that it looks like it was "kicked left" off the break point, this is 100% accurate in OOB form. Hits like a truck if you can consistently keep it in the pocket. I felt it was very sensitive to the amount of hand I put on it and also didn't like carry down oil very much. I tried putting in a flare reducing x-hole but I hated how much it took off the ball. It was like it was completely dead off the break point with the x-hole so I plugged it. I changed the cover to 4000 Abralon and this completely transforms this ball! It is much less sharp off the break point and MUCH MORE PREDICTABLE! I didn't lose any of the hitting power that I loved in OOB form when I went to 4000 but made it 10x easier to get it to the pocket consistently. First game with it at 4000 I went front 9 strikes after not bowling all summer! Still has great push through the fronts and mids and very good backend. I can miss inside and it will push to the pocket and missing outside will just see it snap back to the pocket. Anyone who dislikes this ball OOB needs to try a coverstock change before they give up on it. It is easily my new favorite ball in my bag for THS!

I have thrown almost nothing but Storm/Roto for the past two years, and I can say without hesitation that the Frantic is one of the best balls I've had in my bag during that time, and it may be the best all-around ball I've thrown in the last five years. I've thrown the Frantic on everything, THS, PBA patterns, U.S. Open pattern, etc., etc., and the ball has been useful on each and every one of them. For me and my game, the hybrid cover of the Frantic just works. It's clean, but not squirty. It's strong down the lane, but it's not flippy or uncontrollable. It's just a great all-around piece, especially when you have to start chasing the shot inside. I've preferred to keep mine at box finish. I took the shine off for a while, and that was the only thing I have disliked. When the shine was off, the ball was a bit earlier and even smoother, but my hitting power went away a bit. Thankfully, as soon as I took it back to box, everything that I loved about this ball came right back. Because I throw so many different balls, I sometimes stray away from this one for short periods of time; however, as soon as I start throwing it again, I am reminded of just how fantastic this ball is for me and my game. If you haven't thrown one yet, pick one up before they're gone. This ball is just too good to miss!
