Description: Storm is known for producing the best high performance balls on the market. When the Virtual Gravity was released in 2008, it not only turned heads but gave bowlers of all skill levels an unprecedented amount of hook on even the oiliest lanes imaginable. The new Virtual Gravity Nano is intended to create a similar yet stronger ball motion built specifically for heavy oil. This can be accomplished with either a stronger coverstock (texture) or more aggressive weight block (lower radius of gyration or increased differential). As the original Virtual Gravity quickly became Storm‟s all-time best seller, the new Nano is sure to follow in its footsteps...and yes, those are big shoes to fill! Looking at the original Virtual Gravity, the Shape-Lock HD weight block/core system produced a fast-revving action that especially helped bowlers looking for a stronger change of direction usually privy to only those with big rev rates! The Shape-Lock HD motor will continue to power the Nano as well. A breakthrough in coverstock technology rarely happens due to the complex nature of chemistry and polymer science. But Storm's research and development team is committed to maintaining the "pole position" in bowling innovation, so it's no surprise that we are changing the game yet again with the new NRG cover. With Nanotechnology, NRG will give bowlers increased oil traction due to the micro-dynamic enhancements of the surface. Just looking at the surface of the new NRG material shows you the increased surface texture between the peaks and valleys, as well as the more aggressive edges on the top of the peaks! We're continuing to push the envelope; we just hope you are ready for it.

COMMENTS

I won a ball in a tournament raffle and traded it for the Nano because I was looking for a strong ball for shark and other long, heavy patterns.  While I have not had a chance to test it on a long pattern yet.  I have bowled a dozen or so games on a house shot and have not started right of 40 with my feet with about 5 at the breakpoint.  I have not experienced any burn or loss of energy either it carries whenever it gets near the head pin.   This ball hooks that is what it does. Which is exactly what I was looking for, so if you are looking for a ball that is going to give you an inside line on any pattern this is it.  This for most people will not be a bench mark ball but a ball needed for when they are flooded or the backends are all carry down and other balls just wiggle at the break point, this ball will react.

No dislikes as of yet, ball does exactly what I wanted it for. (thats why I havent changed the surface)

Nano Review

Layout- Pin Up and right of ring finger, CG in the palm, mass bias by thumb (essentially label, but with a 4" pin).

I have taken FOR-EVER to write this review because I've been just so darn busy. Finally, I get around to it. There really isn't anything
I can say that really does this ball justice. This piece rolls amazing! Cleaner than I expected through the fronts, reads friction quickly and
changes direction pretty swiftly- but isn't overly flippy (so it is pretty controllable even though it's so strong). On the shot they use
for my scratch league it sets up perfectly on my dumps in order to still carry all 10 and pops just enough on my tugs to do the same. I averaged almost
250 in the last 5 weeks or so of my scratch league after punching one up and shot 650+ in singles at nationals with one (lets not talk about the other
events lol). Outside of the very rev dominant (who never need strong stuff anyway), this ball is pretty much a must-have (a rarity amongst high end bowling equipment).
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who isn't going to be bowling against me.. lol

I used this ball at the USBC Open at Reno, NV. I bowled a 644 in doubles and a 687 in singles events. This ball knows where to find the pocket. I have also used this in regular leagues with drier condition and I still can throw it without putting too much effort.

Likes: I love the way this new Nano coverstock compliments the Shape-Lock HD core.  I didnt think it was possible for a ball to rev up harder and be more continuous then the original virtual gravity.  This is a must have for all bowler types to compete at a high level on med-heavy oil patterns.  Dont be left behind!!!  Bowl Up A Storm

Edited Feb 10, 2012

Not sure what they have  done to the pattern, but the people who throw a bid hook are leaving a lot of 10-pins and the people going straight up the boards are carrying everything.  This change occurred around Christmas and has remained pretty much the same since then.

COMMENTS

Revision:  I feel like I would be remis if I did not modify my review.  The first 7 games I threw with this ball, I did not break 180.  Only shots that were dead flush would carry.  I was ready to relagate it to the basement, but my pro-shop owner convinced me to give it a few more games before I sent it to the basement.  This time, there was no one else using my line.  I had some beginners, but most of the other bowlers were down and in from the outside.  I bowl from 13-15 with moderate turn and speed.  In short, I bowled a 260, 279, 256, 795.  I didn't have to move until the end of the second game, but the moves were only small, board at a time changes.  The first game was 11 strikes and a big split when I pulled the ball a board.  The ball did not push as all when the ball hit the heavy oil in the middle.  The other 3 non-strikes in the other two games, were 10-pins when I flattened the ball.  Still not real comfortable with the ball, but I will keep using it for a while.

Edited Feb 10, 2012 - After the Storm demo day, I polished my Nano.  It became my benchmark ball and I used it almost exlusively until about Christmas.  The house changed the patter (see above) and now I my Nano seems to be over/under reacting and I have a lot of trouble carrying 10-pins.  It feels like they have flattened the pattern.  The down and in players are carrying well and the crankers are really struggling with under/over reaction and carry.  Nano mostly stays in the bag.  I have had to ball down.  I am now using a mid-performance ball.  I have two high performace balls and they haven't gotten much use since Christmas, and they never see the light of day at tournaments.

Likes:  Original:  A friend gave me a new Nano for finishing the season for him, so the price was right.  It has a Good Coverstock.  Read the midlanes well and usually made it back to the pocket.  I liked the revs I got out of it.  I liked the way it turned and came back to the pocket.

Dislikes: Original: Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but when the Nano got back to the pocket, it hit with all the power and carry of a 10 pound plastic ball.  If the shot wasn't a dead flush hit, it just didn't carry.  I am afraid this ball is not going to see much daylight.  Good thing the price was right.

Edited Feb 10, 2012
After Storm demo day, I poished the Nano and got good results for about 3 months.  Oil Pattern changed ar Christmas and I can no longer use the ball.  I have tried different surfaces and still no luck.

LANE CONDITION : Typical House Shot (well sort of)

Length: 39'

Volume: Flooded

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

COMMENTS

Likes: This is a great ball for anyone that is looking to hook the ball a lot.  I personally believe this ball is a little to much ball for the Typical House Shot but for people who don't put a lot of revs on the ball. You might love this ball.

This ball is drilled 4x4x2 to go long and hook late.  I roll about 15mph and a tweener.  269 is my high game so far

Dislikes:  Soaks up oil fast and needs to be professional baked

Hello all and thanks for reading.  First of all here is the link you can see my video review of the Virtual Gravity Nano:
What can I say that isn't good about this ball??  Not much.  This ball loves oil and maintains angularity no matter how far inside you need to be.  It takes extremely well to surface change and is very easy to maintain coverstock strength just by following the Storm Instructions.  Send the ball out and it reads the dry and maintains a strong arc back to the pocket. Tug it inside and it maintains hitting power and angularity at the breakpoint.  Hit your spot dead on and just walk back to a chair and sit down cause there will not be anything left standing up.

Great for higher balls speeds and/or lower rev rates but this ball can be utilized by all types of players.  Comparing to the Marvel (which I know is a different core) you can plainly how the ball continues off the drier boards to the outside yet still maintains angularity when left in the oil.  The Marvel is a much smoother reaction on the back part of the lane while the Nano is a much sharper reaction.

Enjoy this one and look forward to future Coverstock performance coming out of the Storm factory.  Great Job and Keep it up..... we all know you will.

Likes: Well I  just bowled with the new vg nano, and I have never seen a ball hook this much. Its a good ball to use to break down the oil. I bowl 3 games in a bowling league and I bowl with the c system 3.5 and I stand on the 25 board and I throw it out to the 8th board. If you ask me if you should get the vg nano i would say yes if you wont a ball that hooks more but if you dont then this is a bad ball for you

Likes:  Everything.  Smooth.  Continuous.  Hits like a truck.  First ball out of the bag on fresh condition.  Have over 100 games and still hooks great.  Only thing I've done is use Reacta Clean.  Average went up 14 pins over last season (was using Pure Physics by C300).  Carry is amazing.  Shape Lock HD core is by far the best I've ever used or seen in a ball.

Length:It goes decently long , but has a quick smooth turn into the pocket.

Volume:Medium oil

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS(39')

Likes: I'm not much of a scientist but the pin is about an inch to the right of the ring finger(right handed). When ever I come out of the ball clean, I have a predictable reaction.

Dislikes: I don't put a lot of revs on it so I don't experience the huge hook everyone else talks about.  Also, I sometimes have problems with the ball finishing through the pocket. The way I throw it, the bal sometimes dies out by the time it hits the deck.

This year I purchased a Virtual Gravity Nano with the solid cover stock. I am a cranker, and the ball was drilled pin down. I got this ball for heavy oil conditions and it has done wonders filling that void in my equipment. As it rolls it surprisingly doesn't waste as much energy as a typical solid ball does and has a great finish as it drives through the pocket and throws pins everywhere. Although we didn't bowl on many collegiate tournament shots where I could use this ball, the patterns I did use it on it benefited me greatly. I am pleased to own this ball.

As a low-rev player, it is essential that I have a ball that I know will perform well on fresh, heavier shots in order to keep me in the game early on. The VG Nano is exactly the ball I was looking for to give me the confidence I need in the first couple of games at a collegiate tournament.

What surprised me the most about the Nano is that although it is an aggressive ball, I have never found it to be uncontrollable or unpredictable. I think another one of its strong points is that it is very versatile for both tournament bowlers and league bowlers. I have had success playing straighter lines on sport shots as well as inside lines on broken down house shots. The Nano will still provide a consistently strong roll and hitting power on the backend.

To conclude, the Nano is a great ball for those of us who might need a little help on fresh shots. My only word of caution would be for league bowlers who like to play outside because the Nano, like many aggressive balls, will roll out if it hits the dry parts of the lane too early. I have found the Nano to be a versatile ball that can perform well on both sport shots and house shots, as long as you play the right part of the lane. The Nano has earned its spot in my arsenal and is a great choice for the first ball you pull out of your bag.
