Title: Hy-Road Max
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on March 04, 2021, 10:47:44 AM
Continuing the long success of the Hy-Road line of bowling balls is the Hy-Road Max. The Hy-Road Max is a mid-performance bowling ball that uses the Inverted Fe2 core. This core is known to produce a higher RG presentation which typically delivers a later reaction as well as a cleaner shape through the front part of the lane. Storm has added the NeX Solid Reactive coverstock around this core. This coverstock offers more reaction down the lane. The makeup of the coverstock helps slow the ball which causes it to hook on medium oiled lanes.

Color: Emerald/Lime
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: NeX Solid Reactive
Core: Inverted Fe² Technology (14#-16#)
Finish: 3000-grit Abralon

I was really excited they brought out another hyroad and wrapped it in the NEX cover. This ball at the price point hooks!. This is going to be the strongest hyroad out to date. If you're looking for a ball that reads the midlane and has something of the spot this ball is for you. This ball is great paired with the proton physix. These two together on the lanes is a 1-2 punch. Get to your local pro shop and grab one of these!

This Hy-Road Max has quickly become one of my favorite balls in my bag. Because the cover is so strong, I polished it the day I drilled it and haven’t looked back. It is a ball that I have thrown on many different patterns and volumes, and it amazes me on every one. When the Hy-Road is going too long, this is the perfect ball. When the Phaze 2 can’t get the 10 out because it isn’t retaining enough energy, this is the perfect ball. The Hy-Road Max perfectly embodies a stronger, more overall hook Hy-Road. Whether solid or shiny, the Hy-Road Max will give you a predictable motion that you can rely on. If you want to strike more, go get one!

COMMENTS

As I predicted this ball has a benchmark shape for me. It is smooth, predictable and continues through the pins. Where I do run into trouble is when there isn’t enough oil. I have been struggling to make this work on our typical house shot but have been thriving with it at other centers with more oil. I can see this being a modified house shot” killer! As it has lane shined it has only gotten better for me. Next time I think I would just knock the shine off of it right out of the box. I have always wanted that typical Hyroad shape with a stronger cover so that it would be more usable in tournaments for me. This is exactly what I have been waiting for. Head on over to my YouTube channel to see my ball reaction video!

The new HyRoad Max is a new solid that has been added to the famous HyRoad line. This ball features Inverted Fe2 Core wrapped in NeX Solid. NeX Solid was first founded on the Axiom and is also on the Proton PhysiX. Out of the Axiom, Proton PhysiX and the HyRoad Max, the HyRoad Max is going to be the weakest of the three with NeX on it. But the HyRoad Max allows you to stay in a bigger cover with a weaker core during the transition. This is going to be a great league ball because of how versatile it is. Be sure to get yours today!

I always get excited when I hear about a new Hy-Road coming out - they always impress!

The new Hy-Road Max is a solid ball with the Nex solid coverstock attached to it. I always like to compare any new Hy-road with the OG Hy-road.

My Max is drilling pin above the bridge - which is 3.5 inches from my PAP. With the Max being solid, it's earlier than the OG Hyroad, so I have to get about 5-6 boards left witht the Max.

This ball is extremely versatile for me, and it sees the midlane great. It's not too strong on the backend, so it blends the patterns well, where you have a nice strong controllable motion. If you like the Hy-Road series, you'll enjoy this one!

Hyroad core. Nex cover.  Sounds like a great combo and it is.  The strong cover and weaker core combination of the Max fits a spot were there aren't a lot of options.  Takes great to surface adjustments to make it easily adjustable to as much or as little as you want it to hook.

I drilled the Hyroad Max with a plan of being able to play a bit straighter and keep my angles in front of me.  With the NEX coverstock and a weaker hyroad core, I am able to do that.   This ball is great to start out league and play up the oil line.  I have also had some success on different sport patterns.  I drilled mine 40 x 3.5 x 40.   I am 17.5mph, 375 rpm, 10 deg til, 60 deg axis rotation.

Storm Hyroad Max Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

The newest addition to the Thunder Line at Storm is the Hyroad Max.  The Hyroad series has been out for over ten years now and will go down as one of the most successful line of balls the game has ever seen.  Out of all of the Hyroad’s that have been made, the Max is definitely the most unique one yet.  The biggest difference is the NeX coverstock is on the Max which was originally used on the Axiom.

I’ve drilled one Hyroad Max so far and really like it.  I mapped the layout as 5 x 4.5 x 75.  This puts the pin above my bridge and I also changed the surface with 4000 and water.  I’ve had the most success using the Max on medium-longer patterns.  Even though the RG is higher at 2.57 and differential is .046, the Max feels much stronger than that (maybe due to the coverstock).  It’s been a great compliment to the Proton Physix, Axiom, and Respect.

Overall, the Max is another home run addition to not only the Hyroad line, but the Storm line as well.  Go drill one to get the latest & greatest!  #StormNation

Take it to the Max!!!

The new HyRoad Max features the trusty old Inferted Fe2 core wrapped in the NeX Solid cover which is also found on the Axiom solid and the Proton Physix.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the ball reaction that I’ve seen from the HyRoad Max. This ball reads the mid-lane very well and isn’t overly aggressive on the back in which can be very helpful in controlling your breakpoint and blending out patterns.
I have thrown mine on my local centers house shot as well as a higher volume 1:1 pattern and the HyRoad Max rolled great on both.
I bowl league on old wood lanes and there is a lot of friction. I was still able to use the Max for a full 3 game league set, I just kept bumping left to open my angle and find some head oil and the Max never struggled to make the corner.
The Max also hits like a truck. I haven’t had a ball that drives through the pins like this one does in quite some time.
If you are a fan of the HyRoad line this is a must add for your league and or tournament bag.
And if you are new to the HyRoad experience this is a great one to start with?

The HyRoad Max has some big shows to fill for sure after the original hyroad is still being used on tour.
My first reaction to the max was that cover was just to strong for me and I was not getting the carry I wanted. It would tend to just give up in the back end and not go through the pins good.
As I used it and it got some lane shine on it I did find my self getting the carry I wanted. I just needed the ball to get another foot down the lane to get a nice shape. I think a lot of the complaints are about the out of box finish.
With that being said the ball takes to lots of different surface changes.

The newest addition to the Hy Road family of bowling balls is the aptly named Hy Road Max. The Inverted Fe² core that has powered what may be the most successful line of balls ever produced is again featured. The chosen coverstock for the Max is the NEX cover that was featured so successfully on the Axiom and Proton Physix. The nano formulation creates a max amount of friction and the continuity of the Inverted Fe² creates a unique shape for the cover so far.

I tested the Hy Road Max on a fresh house condition. I threw one practice shot, turned around to a buddy I was practicing with and told him, "this ball is smooth with 15 O's". The drilling I chose stretches the transition of the ball as it goes down-lane. With my lower ball speed my worry was that had I chosen a layout where that move happens faster that the high friction generated by the nano cover could cause the ball to roll out. I was very happy with the results as I could square the ball up on the oil line and really control the downlane reaction.

I can really see this ball being great for me on higher volume patterns. It is so consistent in the mid-lane that I feel like whatever angle the ball needs to take off the friction, I can be confident in my ability to get it there where I need to. I do think that for lower speed players longer pin buffer layouts are going to be preferable. This ball really looks great for the high speed/high rev players. Its very responsive to surface changes and hand position changes.

Another addition to a proven line that has been successful throughout Storm’s history so what could go wrong? The answer is simple, nothing. The Hy-Road Max with it’s unique cover core combo allows me to play a little straighter while still having ball that can finish at the end of the lane. The fact that they put a proven cover with a prove core just makes it that much better of a ball in my opinion. I drilled my Hy-Road Max to be a smooth rolling ball, I wanted to be able to play a little straighter with my angles. I am very happy with this ball and I can see it being in my bag right next to my original Hy-Road for many years to come. If you haven’t gone out and gotten yourself a Hy-Road Max yet you are really missing out on a unique ball that can take your game to the next level.

The Hyroad Max features the same proven FE2 core but is now wrapped in NEX solid. The FE2 core boasts an RG of 2.52 and differential of 0.058 in #16 respectively. The design intent behind this ball was to provide a similar amount of friction to the Axiom (being as they share the same cover) but from a zone farther down the lane. Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm always honest with what I think. Just because I'm on staff with Storm does not mean I love every ball I drill. That being said, I do not like what I see out of this ball so far. It's cleaner than expected but much straighter off the end of the pattern than I would like. It's strong enough to force me too far left too quickly but a little too forward to properly get through to pins. This combined with the color of the ball just doesn't fit what my eye likes to see so far. I do plan on taking the surface up some and letting it lane shine to hopefully increase the friction response downlane. I see this ball being better for straighter players on higher volume/flatter patterns when they need to keep very closed angles. When compared to the original Hyroad, the Hyroad Max is earlier, rounder and straighter off the end of the pattern. The Hyroad Max is available for pre order today from any storm VIP pro shop!

Drilling pattern: 90 x 6 x 41

Pin position: Above and left of ring finger

PAP: 4.5 over and 1 up

So after taking a look at my arsenal I noticed I didn't have any solid balls with long pin to PAP numbers and had been running in to issues of balls burning up on the high friction surfaces in my area. Talked with the PSO and decided to throw a 6" pin to PAP on this ball to try and make sure the ball gets down lane, even with the aggressive surface on this ball as I left it at box finish, and retain its energy for increased hitting power. Oh boy did it deliver. The notorious back end motion of the Hy-Road line was again evident as the ball made a very strong turn at the break point.

I haven't used this ball on a house pattern yet however when bowling in our challenge league (40 foot KEGEL Mercury oil pattern) the surface provided some forgiveness when I missed out making sure to dig in and still get back to the pocket. This ball will fit great in my arsenal between my earlier rolling solids (900 Global Aspect) and the strong pearls (900 Global Zen) when additional traction is needed in the mid lane but that "pop" is still needed down lane.

I drilled up the MAX at 70 x 4.5 x 25 and also took the thumb an inch deeper to spread out the flare more. I have thrown it at box, 2000 abr, and at 5000 smooth.

The MAX for me is early and sets up in the pocket. With the higher RG/med diff core, this is a different and more nichey motion for my 275 rev rate. Comparing it to my PROTON PHYSIX and INCITE, the MAX is definitely later in it's motion. Both the PROTON and INCITE rev up faster and get out of the oil quicker. For me this one was better when the spot started to burn and a 4 and 2 left was a 2-4-5 reaction. I could just ball down to the MAX and throw at the oil line and get it to roll and set until the smoother cover balls came into play.

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO

VLS Layout:  5 x 4 x 2 1/2
Dual Angle Layout:  50 x 5 x 40

The HyRoad Max is the strongest HyRoad ever.  Looks great, smells great and hooks a ton.  For me the HyRoad Max is super strong and slow.  I don’t have to worry about it jerking off the spot because it’s strong enough to use early on a pattern.  For me the Max is a little better off the blend or something tougher.  On the cliff it tends to want to under read the oil and over read the dry.  But with a little blend it’s versatile enough to use early and often.  Since it’s so slow you’ll eventually have to get out of it because it won’t corner enough but that’s usually not right away.  The HyRoad Max is a great new version of the HyRoad.

Layout: 60 x 4 7/8” x 35

The HyRoad Max has a unique ball roll that I am enjoying far more than I did with previous sanded HyRoad line balls.  Neither the HyRoad Solid nor HyRoad Nano rolled well for me at all – it felt like the strong covers were fighting against the high RG core system. That is not the case at all with the new Max.  The cover is strong enough to handle a lot of oil, but the core allows it to not burn up too much energy in the front part of the lane. My home house does not put down much oil, but I am still able to use this ball for at least the first two games.  This is a very versatile ball that I see being used in a lot of situations, except for true dry lane conditions.

Green Light on the Storm Hyroad Max!!

Ball Layout: 50 x 4.25 x 45

Finish: 3000

Storm has brought back another Hyroad to the mix in the Hyroad Max.  For me, the Hyroad series has been hit and miss with my tweener style as high RG, rollier balls sometimes doesn’t match up to my style.  I will say I was pleasantly surprised by how the Hyroad Max rolls as it is much bigger off the spot than I anticipated!  I decided to take it up to 3000 and get some lane shine built in to get the ball down the lane better for me.  I will say that this ball is a situational piece when my Phaze 2 or Axiom are too early and my Hybrids still miss the spot, that’s where this piece comes in.  I fell I can play down and in or open it up a bit with this piece.  And the smell is something terrific so bonus!  Go see your pro shop and ask about how the Hyroad Max can elevate your game!

The Hyroad Max features the classic Inverted Fe2 symmetric core wrapped in the Nex solid coverstock.  The combination of the higher RG core and the aggressive coverstock makes a great choice for longer oil patterns.  For me the box finish of 3000 grit makes this a ball to use for when I need to close my angles and go straighter up the boards.  This allows the Nex coverstock to do what it’s designed to do.  The ball starts up very early and really reads the midlane with a strong continuation on the backend that you are used to seeing from the HyRoad line.  The pin carry for the HyRoad Max when playing straighter lines was excellent.  The trouble I ran into was when I had to really chase the oil line inside and open my angles quite a bit.  The ball really struggled to turn the corner in these situations and tended to leave a lot of weak corner pins.  Adding some polish to the coverstock really helped with this situation.  Once it was shined, the HyRoad Max really opened up the lane and had no trouble turning the corner from the deep inside angles.  For me the Max will be better suited with the box finish and give me that strong rolling ball for closed angles.

Hyroad To The Max
The Storm Hyroad Max is the ball that gives me a much earlier roll and stronger overall version of any Hyroad I’ve thrown. It has a smooth transition between when in the oil and going to the dry. It has the NEX solid reactive cover which is the same cover as the Proton Physix and Axiom. Putting it with the Hyroad core gives you a little less ball compared those two higher performance balls that could be a little too much at times. I drilled mine 5x3x2. I shined mine with Storm Pro Finish Step 2 ball polish. This gives me the length I need to get thru the front part to save energy on the backend. If I bowled on more oil or on flatter patterns then I would keep it at factory 3000 finish.  This ball reads the midlane very well and has a strong finish. My PAP is 5-1/8 and 1/8 up. Usually around 15-16mph, I’d probably be classified between and tweener and cranker.

Hyroad Max
The Hyroad line has always rolled well for me so I was very excited to drill the Hyroad Max. The Max has the same core as the other Hyroads do in the Inverted Fe2 but features the new NEX cover that is on the Axiom and Proton Physix. This combination creates the strongest and earliest Hyroad yet!

I drilled mine with a 2.5” pin with a 1.5” pin buffer. The reason I chose this layout is because the NEX cover is very strong and also very smooth, so I wanted a layout that would highlight that attribute of the Hyroad Max. Thankfully, the Hyroad Max rolls just as I expected. It picks up the lane quickly and is very smooth down lane. It reminds me a little bit of my original Roto Grip Idol. For my game and layout, the Hyroad Max is best going up the lane when I need a slower response ball that will not overact on the back. I have heard some say that adding polish to the Hyroad Max allowed them to get in and shape it a little more as well. But I really believe the Max is best utilized as a slow response benchmark type of ball in your bag.

Hyroad Max
Extremely smooth when exiting the breakpoint. For the most part solids are normally smooth but when I throw the Hyroad Max it really is the definition of smooth. Really controllable down lane and you can really tell where this ball is going to end up. The new Hyroad Max is stronger than any of the other Hyroads because Storm put the NeX coverstock on it which makes this ball pick up earlier. If you had a Hyroad before or want to try one now this is the ball for you. This will help take your bowling to the MAX!!!

Multiple Lane Patterns - Sport and House

COMMENTS

The Storm Hy-Road Max has a unique combination of a core that produces high RG and strong coverstock. These properties create a ball motion that you do not see with other bowling balls. This ball is also very eye-catching.

I chose to drill my Hy-Road Max with a pin up layout: 65 x 5 ½ x 30. Knowing how strong this coverstock is, I went with a longer PIN to PAP distance to reduce some of the flare potential. Since the coverstock on this bowling ball is so strong, I find this ball to have a very smooth and controllable ball motion. Even though this NeX coverstock is very strong, the Inverted Fe2 weight block allows me to still move my feet left and open up the lane a little bit more than expected.

I can see myself using this ball quite often on longer patterns in bowling centers with slicker and newer lane surfaces. This bowling ball looks good on higher volume patterns. The Hy-Road Max also deals with wet/dry conditions very well as the strong coverstocks helps to blend out the over/under reaction.

Review:
This eye-catching addition to the Road line is the most aggressive yet. Taking this famous weight block and wrapping it with the NeX cover allows this ball to turn early and continue through the pins with ease. If you have thrown the Axiom then you will find that this ball is a little more aggressive overall, with a sharper turn from breakpoint. For solid cover stock lovers, this will be a great fit as it is versatile enough to open up the lane by moving left, or being that first out of bag before balling down to a less aggressive solid or hybrid cover. So far this ball has been very popular in the shop, possibly because of shelf appeal, but more importantly living up the ‘Road’ name.

Review:
Storm has added another ball to its popular Hyroad line. This ball fits pretty much right between my IQ Tour Nano Pearl and my Proton Physics in total hook. The color is eye catching and I like the Green Apple scent added to the ball. The Max did not get as dirty from the lane as I would have expected after rolling a few games. The Hyroad Max has a very smooth arch type motion. I did not see much back end on a regular house shot or a more modified house shot. I did not alter the surface yet, but plan on trying some polish to perk up the back end after I play with the box surface fir a while. I can see where this ball would blend out a difficult lane condition or let you control the pocket on a wet / dry pattern. I feel this ball will be good for people who want a lot of control in their ball reaction.

Summary:
The Max has a very controllable ball motion.
The color and scent are very appealing.
This ball could be the one to bail you out on a difficult pattern.

Storm Hyroad MAX - NeX solid coverstock - Inverted Fe2 core
3000ab grit finish from factory - 5000ab grit for testing- layout - 60 x 5 x 35
On older HPL panels with super wet fronts and sparky backends I practice and bowl league on 1 night a week the reaction was a little calmer then I though it would be. I attended several ball demos where this ball was a BEAST . I decided to enhance the coverstock to 5000ab grit to make the ball float on the front part of the pattern and not burn up in the front part of the lanes like my Axiom did with the same NeX cover and similar layout. The ball ultra smooth in the transition part of the lane and silky through the pin deck. Very predictable with the NeX coverstock at 5000ab. The next generation of HyRoad is here and it strikes to the MAX!!!

The new Hyroad Max is the newest solid added to the infamous Hyroad line. It uses the new NEX cover with the same famous Hyroad core. For me, this ball out of the box was just too much up front, with not enough down lane. After applying some Storm Pro Finish step 3 to the cover, I have not looked back. The ball now gets through the front part of the lane with ease, has plenty of midlane roll, then unleashes on the backend. I couldn't help but notice just how much it continued through the pin deck, keeping the pins low, and with that the carry has been phenomenal. I can usually start the night with this ball, but usually has to be put away by game 3. This ball sits nicely between my Reality and my shiny Incite. This ball will definitely be getting use in some upcoming tournaments.

COMMENTS

PLAY

The HYROAD MAX was a little bit of a shocker when first rolled. Controllable, big hitting power and easy to move around on different patterns and lines of play

Pattern A:

Ball 1.  Out of box the MAX stayed true to roll. Read the mid lane and revved up enough to keep the motion form being too early towards the end of the pattern.

Ball 2: Polished up the MAX gave the length and backend one would expect or want. Still able to control the motion while keeping energy down lane.

Typical house moves on a higher volume than most places.  High scores and Big angles.

Pattern B:

This pattern being a longer than pattern A with a few hang spots and lower scoring index actually showed the strength of the ball for both OB and polished versions.

NOTE A:  When playing the fresh the higher scoring angle with polis was from the outside with a soft release. As pattern transition it became a slow fall back from the outside.

NOTE B: When playing the fresh with OB surface the MAX liked tighter inside but could be used form a down and in angle. The real key here is as the transition from 4 other bowlers (High Rev) the MAX easily allowed for right migration on the patten with swing into the midlane with controlled strong recovery.

LOW DOWN: The HYROAD MAX is a ball everyone can use as a benchmark and fine tune to your preference. Whether you want OB, polished or somewhere in between you can get the look, roll or motion you want with good hitting power.

The MAX is easily paired with the AXIOM. Great one two on any condition!

I am so glad I ordered this ball as it is absolutely amazing. The Hyroad Max is smooth through the front, pops on the backend and continues through the pins. The center where I bowl the lanes are oily to start so I am able to start the night with this ball and keep moving my feet left as the night goes on. We only have four on a pair during league so there is some transition but not a bunch so I have not had to move too far left. I really like the shape this ball gives me as it is something I did not have in my bag. I think this ball is going to be a great tournament ball for me as well especially if the lanes are oily or when they start to break down. With my lower rev rate when I have to move inside I have to ball up. The Hyroad Max will be a ball that I can ball up to play deeper on the lanes.

The Hyroad Max will be a ball that is in my bag for league and tournaments. I am heading to the Open Championships at the end of June. The Hyroad Max will definitely be coming with me to both of those tournaments. I look forward to seeing what this ball gives me on the house shot when it lanes shines but also to see what it gives me during tournaments.

The new Hy-Road ball is called the HyRoad Max.  Great shelf appeal with the bright lime green in color.  Storm added the very strong Nex solid reactive coverstock.  I drilled mine pin down with 5 inch pin.  I also applied Storm Reacta Shine to surface.
For me the Max needs some oil up front, as it rolls pretty early for me.  To be honest it so far has been a little conditional for my roll.  When its on its pretty good, but when its not I just need to choose a different option.  On a side not, bowlers with higher ball speed love this ball as it keeps the ball from going through the breakpoint.
I need to bowl more with the Max and on some longer patterns where it should shine.

Introducing the brand new Storm Hy-Road Maxx! The new Hy-Road Maxx features the NeX Solid Reactive Coverstock that is previously seen in the Proton PhysiX and, Axiom wrapped around the famous Hy-Road Core!

This ball for me is a different ball motion then seen in most Storm balls, it gets through the front part of the lane easily because of the Core and, the Coverstock allows it to read the midlane and, also be very smooth downlane! This ball is very strong still for as slow as it rolls for me for when I need something I can control the backends with.

Storm Hy-Road Max

Core: Inverted Fe2 weight block

Cover: NeX Solid Reactive

I started with my Hy-Road Max on the two different house shots I see most often. One is pretty heavy for house, the other your typical dry house shot.

The Max was a little too weak out of the gates on the heavy shot, too aggressive on the dry one.

I tinkered with cover a bit but still didn't love the reactions I was seeing.

I tossed a couple sport patterns and finally found some success. When I needed a the ball to start earlier and stay controllable, the Max finally lined up.

I think this may just be a bad match up for me. I haven't had much luck with the Hy-Road line (aside from the Hy-Road Pearl)...which seems crazy with all the success of the line.

I have drilled a handful for customers and have had no complaints. Maybe not the best for me but, like most Hy-Roads, this will be a good ball for many different styles.

Hy-Road Max: Thunder Series
Coverstock: NeX Solid reactive
Finish: 3000 Grit Abralon
Core: Symmetrical:  Inverted Fe2 Technology
RG: 2.57 (15lb)
Differential: 0.046 (15lb)
Layout: 4 x 3.75 x 2.25
Tester PAP: 5 1/8 R, 1/2 D
Lane Condition:  Medium – Heavy
Pattern Review: 42’ Typical House Pattern

The Hy-Road Max is proof of why Storm is truly the “Bowlers Company.” With the combination of the Inverted Fe2 Core and NeX Coverstock, the Hy-Road Max delivers from laydown to impact! Let’s take a closer look at this THS review from a straighter, older, thumb-in-the-ball, bowler.

The symmetrical Inverted Fe2 Core rolled quite cleanly off my hand in different lines. I liked that when I played straighter (up 5) this core took its time rev’ing up while retaining a whole lot of energy at the pins. Moving a bit in (up 10), I enjoyed how this core was smooth and predictable with a motion that I could depend on. Further, I could move in deeper (15) and, even with my lower rev rate and higher speed, the Fe2 Core retained its energy and brought a strong impact at the pins with little deflection. I admit that I really like seeing those 10 pin kickers!

The NeX Coverstock was the perfect choice for the Hy-Road Max. I found this solid cover blends smoothly in different conditions and performs well under different situations even after tweaking the cover to 1500 grit. On fresh oil, this cover cleared the heads crisply and still maintained a well-defined motion. I liked how this cover nearly predicted when it was time to make a move as the night went on. In a late night burned up condition, the NeX cover stayed consistent through the lane. I loved its smooth motion even in spotty and frustrating conditions you get from plastic and urethane.

In conclusion, the Hy-Road Max is an excellent choice for bowlers that are down and in, higher speed/low rev and have a little hand to put into their game. This ball is predictable, stable and quite reliable. The Hy-Road Max will keep you in the game. I suggest you keep it in your bag!

The Hyroad Max is the latest ball from Storm that features the Inverted Fe2 weight block that has been so successful over the past 15+ years. Hyroad Max uses the strongest cover (NeX Solid) to date of any ball that shared the Inverted Fe2 weight block. The 3000 grit box finish gets the Max to pick up in the oil with ease. Hy-Road Max has a color combination of emerald and lime, and takes me back to yester-year, and reminds me of the Bolt solid. The Hyroad Max has an Rg of 2.57 and a differential of 0.046 in 15lb balls.

I drilled the Hyroad Max with a 4.5 pin and 4 pin buffer. Comparing the Max to an identically drilled All Road, the Max starts creating traction much sooner and creates more hook in the midlane and through the backend. For a bowling ball with this strong of a cover, it is amazing that it can still continue downlane even though it reads the oil so well. The only ball that comes to mind that created this kind of  motion throughout the entire lane was the Reign of Fire. One thing that I have noticed is that I do need to keep the cover free from oil with my shammy, to keep the consistent move throughout the lane. The Hy-Road Max has been useful on some longer, heavier patterns while keeping my hand up the back of the ball, and can still get through the front of the lane and reduce overall motion when putting my hand in a position to create a little more “spin” on medium pattern volumes.

I like the Hy-Road Max. I was a little nervous to drill it at first because my history with strong covers on high Rg balls hasn’t been the greatest, but the Max works. With my ball speed and rev-rate, the Hy-Road Max will have the right time and place to use it. Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Hy-Road Max. Bowl up a Storm!
