Ball NPS Score: 100.00
COLOR: Silver/Deep Purple/Maroon All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
COVERSTOCK: R2X Pearl Reactive
CORE: Centripetal
FACTORY FINISH: 1500-grit Polish
FRAGRANCE:Aromatherapy - Score
RECOMMENED LANE CONDITION: Medium-Heavy Oil
RG: 16#-2.48, 15#-2.48, 14#-2.53, 13#-2.59, 12#-2.65
DIFFERENTIAL: 16#-.052, 15#-.050, 14#-.049, 13#-.045, 12#-.035
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
DESCRIPTION: Looking to expand the Master Line with additional performance options, Storm's product development team determined that, with the successes and feedback from bowlers around the globe, the series needed to expand with a new coverstock option. A highly polished pearl blend made the most sense being that Storm was looking to create a stronger move to the pocket. The Prodigy's pearl R2X material included enhanced traction mica (ETM) and a 4000-grit Abralon texture to help control the midlane with reading as early as the 2000-grit solid Marvel. So, taking the ETM out of shell and reducing the surface roughness with a 1500-grit polish, created more of a skid-flip reaction that bowlers love. Throw the Marvel Pearl out to the dry and watch it marvelously recover every time! Remember that it's the weight block/core that determines the roll pattern due to its migration path, and the Centripetal core's unique shape will power this new Marvel Pearl as well. The beauty of this shape is that it's easy to drill and produces a very predictable motion that really packs a punch.

Likes: The Marvel Pearl is that higher end strong pearl I have been looking for.  As usual storm has made another winner that is extremely clean through the front part of the lane and has some major recovery and backend. This is a great compliment to the Marvel solid, and Prodigy.  The Marvel solid would obviously be used when there is a more oil out on the lanes and you are looking for that heavier, earlier roll.  The Prodigy would then be used for when they start to transition and you are looking for a lil more length but more midlane.  Then the secret weapon comes into play!!! The Marvel pearl allows you to continue to move left and open the lane up with a generous amount of skid and flip down lane. The 1-2-3 punch has been completed....... This ball is another must have from our friends in Utah!!!!  Bowl Up A Storm :)

The Marvel Pearl uses an early revving core in a cover that creates more length, allowing for a longer and more angular reaction, yet very controllable and predictable. It’s just the right mix of smoothness and aggressiveness, being very continuous. It will compliment more aggressive equipment very well, particularly balls that have smooth reactions, like the Marvel Solid, Prodigy, Hy Road, Gamebreaker, etc.

Dislikes: a lot of 9 pins :p

Marvel Pearl was very surprising actually for myself.  Didnt feel before hand that I would get very good control with this ball but boy was I wrong.  This ball doesnt need any help to hook.  Recovery off friction is absolutely rediculous.  I havent thrown the Marvel solid (opted for the Nano instead) so cant really compare to that, but I have thrown the Victory Road Pearl (and done quite well with it, although cant seem to finish for the 800) and length is quite the same with my pin up VR pearl but the difference in back end reaction is close to 10 boards more on the Marvel pearl.  Those looking to cover more lane with less effort will absolutely love the reaction of this ball.

MARVELous combination STORM!!!

BALL  REACTION
After punching her up, I pulled this nugget out for its  first toss at a tournament featuring the USBC pattern. It was easy to see this  was not any USBC pattern I've experienced as it had mucho friction. Needless to  say, the Marvel Pearl had no chance in my hand so I put her to sleep in the  bag. The next time I bowled was on Kegel's Dead Man's Curve a week later and  finally I had a chance to release the beast. What was apparent was the the mid  lane motion is plain different from my Victory Road. The Marvel rolls "heavier"  in the mids but like the Victory Road, it too was not scared to get up and stand  up when I wheeled her out. The Centripetal core is known for being rolly but the  R2X cover wakes this core up nicely.

The  Marvel Pearl reminded me of the Blue Thunder (1997) and I looooved that ball! So  what is so similar? When you throw the ball, you can just watch the core at work  and thank you bowling Gods for the pearl cover that inspires the ball to skid a  little further than the core wants to go. Man, when the energy transfer finally  hits the cover, the ball makes a STRONG arc and just throws some mean bows to  any pin between it and the 8 pin. When I do get a little carefree with her, the  6 pin has used an open backhand slap on the 10 pin.

HELLO BOOMERS!!! Use this ball when the heads have oil  and the back ends aren't going sideways as this ball is not timid. For those who  release the ball with a little less rotation, this ball will give you something not to skidish and  you will have that angle you need to carry. If you're having a rough day, just  smell the aromatherapy to relax.

The Marvel pearl really impressed me on how strong the back end motion and the recovery that it has for a mid-high performance ball. I have drilled it pin under with the cg kicked out a little with no hole to have more control and consistent reaction. The pearl cover stock version of the best selling ball in the market the Virtual Gravity gives the ball a strong performance but stays clean through the heads. The centripetal core from the Prodigy and Marvel solid it gives a consistent motion down lane and packs a punch in the pocket. It is a good ball for medium condition on a fresh league night.

I have a video on facebook and youtube! If you have any questions about the Marvel pearl email me at grichardson7716@aol.com.

MARVEL PEARL review by Storm staffer Jeff Richgels

The MARVEL has been one of my favorites since it came out – if you read my 11th Frame blogs you know how much success I had with a MARVEL with a control drilling (pin in my ring finger and "mass bias" kicked a touch left near my thumb) given to me by Storm Tour rep Chris Schlemer.

A low-pin MARVEL was a little too much for my combination of moderate speed and middling revs, but a plug and re-drill to a high-pin 90 degree drilling gave me excellent motion, especially on house shots.

So you can believe I was excited when I heard that Storm would be coming out with a MARVEL PEARL featuring the same Centripetal core that provides such strong midlane roll paired with the R2X Pearl coverstock at 1,500 grit polish.

One of my favorite drillings for patterns that have transitioned quite a bit is that high-pin (over bridge usually) stacked (90-degree drilling) so the CG ends up in or around my grip center.

I've had many balls with that drilling through the years, including two favorites I still have in my arsenal: a T-ROAD PEARL and an original TROPICAL.

I figured the MARVEL PEARL might be a nice stronger compliment to those two, so I went with that drilling: a pin to PAP (my coordinates are 5 1/8 over and 3/4 up) distance of 5 1/8 inches, a "mass bias" (it's a symmetrical) to PAP distance of 6 1/4 inches, and a pin buffer is 3 3/8 inches. The pin is above my bridge and the CG is in my grip center. The ball has no weight hole.

I've used the MARVEL PEARL on both a fresh PBA Chameleon pattern at a PBA Regional on nearly new Brunswick synthetics, and a fresh house shot on Brunswick synthetics that are about 8 years old.

At the Regional, the MARVEL PEARL ended up carrying me to the cash and a near-miss of match play – this after throwing a total of eight shots in the prior five weeks.

On the Chameleon, I went from a defensive ball (bad) for a few frames to a new VICTORY ROAD SOLID to a NANO to be about 30 shy of the cut after three games. I then switched to the MARVEL PEARL and rolled four straight solid games to get above the cut number before a tough last pair and 190 game left me 2 spots shy of match play.

The MARVEL PEARL essentially let me get my feet as deep as necessary and still get it to move strong at the breakpoint. The motion picked up strong in the midlane and never quit – my taps were mostly solid 8s and 9s and ringing 10s. When I switched from the NANO (1,000 Abralon lane shined with a strong drilling) I actually only moved my feet a board back to the right, which astonished me. (Obviously if there wasn't a dry spot opened up on the lanes, this would not have been possible, but what was great is that the MARVEL PEARL was not squirting in the oil.)

I saw this reaction again when I used it on the house shot – I could get about as far left as I wanted, send it right and it would recover but without squirting in the oil.

In contrast, two of my favorite strong shiny nuggets – a VICTORY ROAD PEARL and a REIGN SUPREME, both with pin-above-bridge drillings and stronger 60-degree drilling angles – would produce 2-pin combos when I moved as deep into the oil as I was with the MARVEL PEARL.

All I can say is: WOW.

I have a feeling the MARVEL PEARL is going to turn out to be one of my all-time favorites – and might retire some of my other pearls.

I can't think of any style that couldn't use a MARVEL PEARL – speed dominant players will like the strong midlane from the core and how it does not squirt, and rev dominant players will like that it's shiny and still gets down the lane better than a rougher surface ball.

Layout- Pin above/right of ring, cg stacked and a hole down by the thumb, narrow and deep (longer pin).

I had been worried, prior to drilling, that this ball might be a little too long/strong for my game, but my mind was put at ease after throwing it- not because it wasn’t long and strong, because it certainly was, but because the breakpoint shape on it was surprisingly controllable. It cleared the fronts clean, picked up some roll in the midlane and banged on the back, but most importantly it continued well. For someone looking for a medium-strong ball with both angularity and control- this ball is a winner for sure. It is also nice to see a strong symmetrical ball like this that is buyable- because there are so few true “high-end” symmetricals in general, let alone one that is as useable as this on a variety of conditions for a variety of styles.

Marvel Pearl

Storms’ latest release is the Marvel Pearl. The Marvel pearl is part of storms master line of bowling balls set below the premier line and above the thunder line. The marvel pearl utilizes a pearlized version of the R2X coverstock with the Low RG centripetal core found in both the Marvel and the Prodigy. The prodigy also featured the R2X coverstock with ETM,(enhanced traction mica) designed to Provide more traction in the midlane while being clean through the heads. With the E.T.M removed from the shell the Marvel will be cleaner though the front, slightly longer though the mid part of the lane while the core is starting up. This will generate more of a skid flip reaction. The centripetal core will provide a predicable yet strong break point to the pocket due to its low RG design. My intentions with the Marvel pearl is to have that strong symmetrical pearl that will give me length, midlane, and just the right amount of both controllability and angularity down lane.
The lay out I chose for my marvel pearl was one similar to a recent prodigy that I had drilled. I had been experimenting with extremely long pin to CG balls and using extremely high pin over lay outs. First my prodigy was drilled with a Dual angle lay out of 80x5x10. This put the pin about 3.5 inches above my fingers and an unmarked mass bias just above my thumb. On the marvel pearl I used a dual angle layout of 70x5x20. This layout put the pin high again only not as high as the prodigy. No weight holes were used in either ball.
When I got out on to the lanes on to a fresh house shot on AMF hpl surface, I found that the prodigy was really clean through the front yet picked up really strong in the midlane using a lot of energy there and really smoothed out a lot more than I thought it would with the pin over drilling. The prodigy seemed to quit more in the back. Next the I used the marvel pearl out of the box with its 1500 reacta shine finish. I decided to keep my feet in the same spot as I was right around 17 targeting 13 and hitting 8 at the break point. First shot with it was extremely clean through the front. I noticed that the core was quick to rev how ever and the break point seemed more archy than I had expected for a pearl ball. That shot went high so I moved my feet in. After moving in I noticed I had a lot more room down lane at the break point. The ball almost seemed like it had a jekle and hyde type of personality, it was controllable when it needed to be yet angular if it needed to be, like if I got the ball in down lane it held line and quickly created the angle it needed to kick the corner pins. However if I I got the ball wide at the break point the ball did not snap it set itself up and and had more of an arch type reaction to the 1 3 pocket and didn’t go high as long as I was deep enough with my feet in the starting position.
Overall the Marvel pearl is perfect for anyone looking for that controllable skid snap reaction. The R2X coverstock is really strong and the centripetal core really complements it by providing the ball with a strong controllable reaction from the break point to the pocket.

I used a 50 X 4 ½ X 30 layout on my Marvel Pearl. This ball gives me a little different reaction than I am used to seeing out of most pearls. Generally, most pearls have been long down the lane and angular at the break point for me. The Marvel Pearl is longer, and is strong at the break point but not necessarily angular. It hooks and basically sets in motion rather than being really angular and continuing to hook. This is the type of ball that I know I am going to get A LOT of use out of on various sport patterns and even on a lot of house patterns.

The Marvel Pearl is the perfect complement to the Marvel and even the Anarchy. The Marvel Pearl is longer and stronger at the break point than the Marvel, which means I can use my Marvel to burn a spot in a condition and use the Marvel Pearl once that area breaks down to really open up the mid-lane and allow a lot of room for myself. The Anarchy is actually longer than the Marvel Pearl and more angular at the break point for me, and it fits perfectly behind the Marvel Pearl and allows me to open up the lane further down the lane. Basically, the Marvel Pearl just filled a hole perfectly in my arsenal.

The Marvel Pearl is strong in the mid-lane and allows me to control the break point and backend more, and that is what I generally need on most sport patterns. Even on house patterns, for those that have a hard time controlling the sharp motion that most pearls tend to make, this could be the perfect ball for you.

Overall, I think the Marvel Pearl fits an area where most balls with pearl covers can’t, and I think it would be an excellent choice for just about any bowler!

LANE CONDITION

Length: 30 Ft.

Volume: Medium-Light

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Starts out as a standard pattern (not quite THS) but with 5 bowlers bowing 6 games, breaks down pretty quick during last part of 3rd game-early part of 4th game.

COMMENTS

Likes: My first pearl ball in almost 5 years. I have a lot of speed (18 MPH at the pocket), but I tend to not have as many revs as "POWER" players. I got this to round out an arsenal, fitting it between a Roto-Grip Rogue Cell and Grand Illusion. I was impressed at the overall length of this ball. And as far as recovery, I am in awe that a ball can snap this hard and fast and still kick out corner pins. The only thing this ball can't account for is me missing my mark. Even when the heads dried out some, the length was still enough to get this ball down the lane and to the break-point

Dislikes: I wish I tried something like this years ago, but I have never been a fan of the reaction that pearl balls produce.

The Marvel Pearl is the latest addition into the master line of bowling balls. The R2X pearl hasn’t been used without the ETM additive (2nd Dimension and Prodigy) since the Gravity Shift. The Centripetal core used in the Marvel pearl is the same weight block (2.48 rg and .050 diff in 15lbs) used in the solid Marvel as well as the Prodigy.

The Marvel pearl offers a unique motion to the current Storm line. The best way I can describe it, is the combination of an Agent and a Gravity Shift. Basically, the Agent motion down lane, combined with the earlier read of the lane found in the Gravity Shift. This combo is not all that surprising, since the Gravity Shift and the Pearl Marvel use the same cover stock, and the Agent core has a very similar shape and densities when compared to the centripetal core in the pearl Marvel. What this offers, is a pearl ball that will pick up in the mid lane, but not lose all of its energy through the front. This shape in ball motion is best suited for when a higher volume condition starts to break down, and your sanded solid ball is a bit too early to make the corner, and your weaker highly polished equipment just doesn’t blend the pattern enough.

When comparing the Marvel pearl to more recent releases such as a Prodigy and Anarchy, the Marvel will save more energy than both balls. The ETM in the cover of the Prodigy helps the ball slow down much faster than the pearl Marvel. The strong asymmetric core in the Anarchy combined with the stronger R3X cover will handle more oil than the pearl Marvel.  The Marvel pearl is a great step down from both balls, without being too drastic of a difference.

The Marvel pearl will be a great addition to anyone’s arsenal. Whether you are looking for a “fit” between the angular Victory road pearl and earlier stronger read of the Anarchy or wanting to drill a ball that you can base an arsenal around, the Marvel pearl is that ball.  The league season is just around the corner, so stop in to your local pro shop, and drill a Marvel pearl today!!

Hello everyone and thanks for reading.  Here is the video that goes along with Storm's Marvel Pearl:

Great ball here everyone.  Versatility should be the one word that is written on this ball.  Want more hook?? Take the surface down a notch.  Want more skid Flip??  Keep the  polish up and watch this ball move on the back part of the lane.  This ball revs up just as good as the original Marvel and has what you may call a built in turbo charger.  You don't need to put much into this ball to get incredible performance.  I have used this ball on all patterns but i will admit having the take an abralon pad to it for the longer patterns but that just tells me that this ball is VERSATILE!!!

Comparing to in the video to the original Marvel you can see how the ball stands up by allowing you to keep you feet a little further right where the Marvel Solid forces you in a little bit more than you may want.  The angular move is really shown off in this video and even a little hook stop which is always beneficial to those who like to stay up the boards.

What more can I say????  Benchmark ball for me and usually stays in my hand once I take it out of the bag.  Storm equals genius.  Keep it up guys!!!  LOVE IT!!!

The Marvel Pearl has great midlane roll with strong backend motion.  The pearl is longer and stronger than the original Marvel.  But don't let the pearl fool you as this is a very strong rolling ball.  On the Scorpion pattern, the Pearl allowed me to play just inside the track and then chase the pattern in.  I was surprised how good the pearl handled the midlane oil.  As it did not squirt through the breakpoint as some pearls have a tendency to do.  Plus with it picking up in the midlane it has great carry.
