The Modern Marvel is the fourth ball that has been released with the centripetal core. The cover has been changed to the R2X hybrid reactive. This cover falls nicely in between the solid Marvel, and Marvel pearl. I drilled the Modern Marvel with the pin in the ring finger, and the 6 ¾ mark halfway between my VAL and initial ball track. This comes out to a 5 x 4 ½. I needed to use a small balance hole to bring the static weights back to USBC legal limits, which I placed 1” past my VAL, just below the center line.
The Modern Marvel gets through the heads a touch easier than the Marvel, and picks up a few feet earlier than the Marvel pearl. The change of direction is more pronounced, and rolls stronger through the pins, with less deflection. The Modern Marvel is very similar in ball motion in the back part of the lane to the Prodigy, the first ball released with the centripetal core, but much easier through the heads. The mica that was used in the Prodigy created a lot of friction in the front of the lane, especially on softer lane surfaces like wood and AMF lanes, making it hard to sometimes use when the Marvel pearl was too clean, and the Marvel was too smooth in the backend of the lane. Now, with the hybrid cover on the Modern Marvel, that “fit” between the solid and pearl is almost perfect.
So far, it has been hard to put down the Modern Marvel. From fresh league conditions, to tighter patterns that need the ball to pick up in the mid lane, and still continue, the Modern Marvel is slowly becoming the first ball out of the bag. With simple surface changes, the Modern Marvel can be used on anything from the medium to really heavy oil patterns. Due to its strong cover and core, I would not recommend using the Modern Marvel on really dry lanes. There are much better options from Storm for those types of conditions.
In closing, if you haven’t tried any of the preleased master line balls with the centripetal core, or you are just looking for a ball to fit in between your Marvel pearl and solid, the Modern Marvel would be a great way to go. This is one of those balls you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
Hand: Left
Ball Speed: 15-16mph
Ball Weight: 15lbs
PAP: 5 left 7/16 up
Degrees of Tilt: 17
Layout: 5 x 5 x 1
The Modern Marvel I drilled up is pin above my ring finger and cg is a little past my midline palm. I am a big fan of mid to low performance hybrids and this ball does not disappoint me at all. With the cover stock being part solid and part pearl I am able to play different parts of the lane and changing my hand position I can get the ball to come back from different angles. The Modern Marvel is right in between the other 2 marvels; not too early rolling and even like the Marvel solid and does not go as long as the Marvel Pearl. The Modern Marvel is one of those balls when you just need a little variance with your ball reaction between the other 2 marvels. It is smooth down lane but has a little angle on the back end which is able for you to have a little room if you do miss your target.

Storm Modern Marvel Ball Review
by Storm Staffer Casey Murphy
Rev Rate: 400 rpm
Ball Speed: 17 mph
PAP: 4 5/8 straight across
Where: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern: 40 ft, medium volume, 4:1 ratio (close to sport)
Modern Marvel layout (Dual Angle Layout): 70, 5 1/2 , 35
This ball is STRONG. It needs a longer pattern or higher volume to be truly effective. The pattern I threw it on was a relatively medium pattern and the Modern Marvel wanted to read the fronts off my hand. The reaction is very smooth thanks to the lower RG core so I was able to migrate left and not over react off the hook spot. Because the ball is so strong on the medium volume it did tend to labor a little. I think on a heavier volume of oil or with bowlers who are speed dominant the Modern Marvel will perform extremely well.
