Natural
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: 100.00
- Color: Black
- Coverstock: U2Sâ„¢ Urethane
- Weight Block: Turbineâ„¢
- Ball Finish: 2000-Abralon
- Flare Potential: 3”-4” (Medium)
- RG: 16#-2.53, 15#-2.55, 14#-2.58
- Diff: 16#-.040, 15#-.038, 14#-.035
- Recommend Lane Conditions: Dry
- Description: Our intent was to design a “pure” urethane coverstock with less surface friction for those challenging patterns along with a core combination that would complement. We developed the U2S™ coverstock, a second generation of U2000™. It enables one to get length with out the over-reaction that resin sometimes creates. Even though it’s made of a pure urethane material it’s dynamic enough to handle today’s lane conditioners. The Turbine™ core creates ample flare to ensure fresh coverstock is always touching the lane. This translates into additional friction to create ample entry angle, without generating an over/under reaction down lane. The Natural™ integrates classic reaction with today’s modern technology to deliver unbeatable performance.

A blast from past with a modern touch! I am too young to know what it was like to truly compete with Urethane bowling balls back in the day. But now I see why my father still loves his urethane ball. I've always had an issue with lane conditions once they break down. The Natural has definitely filled a hole in my bag that I have been trying to fix for a couple of years now.

I drilled my Natural with a dual angle layout of 60 x 2 ½ x 40. Out of box the ball would skid a down lane and have no real movement at all even with the lane being fried. I hit the surface a burgundy scotch brite pad and this ball came to life for me. What it allowed me to do was stay playing down 10 instead of moving deep inside to try to bank off the friction.Of my hand the Natural made gentle move to the left and continued towards the pocket.  I had little to no backend motion which is going to serve me well when I hit the shorter patterns or fall into a situation when the lanes are just completely destroyed. The hitting power of the Natural was phenomenal, I am so excited to see this ball in tournament action. I posted a video at the end of this review.

This ball may not be for everyone, but for tournament bowlers and bowlers who have a hard time with drier conditions, you will want to have this ball in your bag. In my honest opinion the combination of the Fast, Furious, and the Natural, make an awesome and reliable 1-2-3 punch for any bowler on today’s lane conditions.

The Natural is a ball for the Young and Old. A blast from the past (Urethane) with a modern touch (Turbine Core).

The “ Natural”

Lets just say a touch of the past with a  great roll through the heads and a smooth arcing backend reaction.

This ball gives the bowler of today a great fix and a perfect solution to today’s reactives when they are too strong and hard to control.

We drilled this ball with a 1” pin buffer above the ring finger, an approximate 4 x 3 drilling with the ball weighing 15lbs 3oz  and 2.8 top weight and a pin of 3 to 3 ½ .

Just loved it on the Cheetah pattern and waiting for additional opportunities.

Thanks again “Storm” for a touch of the past.

The Natural..

I cant say enough good things about Storm's latest ball.  Its all urethane and wow does it hit really well!  I have to admit I was a little skeptical about throwing a urethane ball but my reservations proved to be unfounded.  It felt like the good old days when you could make a move on the lane and not get that "what the heck was that reaction?".  I used this ball in the SNBT 5 gamer at the Orleans.  It was a standard house shot that was hooking quite a bit.  In warm up I tried my Natural with a 4x4 layout with no hole pinned up with the CG on my midline.  It was OTB but after a few shots the oil was sitting on the ball and thats something you very rarely see with todays resin balls. However the ball still rolled great and had quite a bit of flare as well. I shot 835 my first three games (247,290,300). It was unbelievable!  I finished the block off with 1288 and won.  I know in todays game scores happen every day but mostly with resin.  For me to see a urethane ball roll that smooth and hit that strong was hard to believe.  It made playing the lanes just like the pre-resin days.

So I have to thank the people at Storm for making this amazing urethane ball which features a great weight block as well.  It will give bowlers that DIFFERENT look when the resin balls are just to much ball for the lanes.

Thanks to Ernest, Storm technical advisor, for the ball and the layout. Storm continues to lead the industry with its superior technological developments with a touch of old school charm.

Hand: Left
Ball Speed: 16-17mph
Ball Weight: 15lbs
Pin: 2-2.5
Layout: Pin under ring finger and cg in the middle

The Natural is an awesome urethane ball! It is a great ball for the dry lanes or when you bowl on a sport shot when the heads are gone especially when it is a shorter sport shot or if there is too much backend and you need something to stay in line and not over react. Great for the high rev dominant bowlers. It hits really hard for a urethane due to the same weight block that is in the Fast and Furious.

I have used it so far on a house shot at my center at AMF Pinole Valley Lanes where its always dry and this ball never over reacted. If I do get it in a little patch of oil it is going to slide further before it makes a move. It is also a great ball to practice with to see how consistent you are since there is really no room for error with this ball.

Good luck to everyone that grabs his or her hand on this ball its awesome!

I have a picture of my Natural drilled in my photo album on myspace! Also I have a video up on videoballreviews.com. If you have any questions about the Natural email me at grichardson7716@aol.com.

Natural- pin below - 4 x 4 to PAP.
This ball was like cheating on the cheetah. LOL Brings back the old days of hook stop to control the pocket. Used only this ball in the PBA central region on the cheetah and finished 11th.
On other shorter patterns and house shot lack a little carry. But it is good to give me the pocket.  I recommend this ball for the shorter patterns when looking to get to the pocket and stay out of trouble or players with high rev rates when lanes are drier

Name: Casey Murphy
Style: Right handed, 425 rpm, 16 mph ball speed
Axis: 4 13/16 over, 5/16 up

Ball: Natural
Layout: Dual Angle Layout (35 degree drilling angle, 4 13/16 inch from axis,70 degree angle to the val) The pin is below and centered between my fingers, cg is kicked out quite a bit with a balance hole.

Playing around just after drilling the ball
Location: Sunshine Lanes, Springfield, MO
Lane Surface: Synthetic Heads, Wood Backends
Condition: House Condition, High volume. A lot of oil from 10 to 10, just a little less oil from 9 out to the gutter
Was interested to see this modern version of a urethane ball. Didn't really know what to expect going into drilling the ball, but my first shot in practice surprised me. The ball hooked quite a bit more than i expected. I was able to play pretty straight around the track the ball fed to the hole every time. Carrying the corners was a bit difficult on the longer house pattern, but for short patterns the Natural would be a great weapon!

Weekly League
Location: Sunshine Lanes, Springfield, MO
Lane Surface: Synthetic Heads, Wood Backends
Condition: Kegel Challenge Pattern - Middle Road
The Middle Road pattern is somewhat challenging. There's not a lot of room to the right and bowler's really need to keep the ball in the track area. I started the first game with a different ball and was having trouble staying in the 1-3. Decided to give the Natural a try and all of sudden i couldn't miss the pocket. Finished out with a 4 bagger in the first game and shot 667 for the next 3 games.

Overall
The Natural is a great ball for controlling tough lane conditions and fresh backends. It is an absolute MUST BUY for lefthanders. Lefties will tear up shorter patterns off the outside with this ball.

med. revs
16-17mph
multiple angles
right handed

Fresh house shot: on a fresh shot this ball was a little less then stellar not making the move till it was a bit late, after moving several boards right and going 6 to 3 with a slight hand adjustment this ball was what i hoped nice smooth finish light on the pocket hits but mixed them up good.

after league house shot: ball was phenomenal never over reacted absolutely carried the world while pot bowling, shot 268,300,257 couple balls were several boards off target and recovered.

short flat sport pattern: was very skeptical of what ball was gonna do on this pattern was able to play track area all 4 games winning 3 high game pots after was done sold 3 out of shop not bad. was read lane stayed on a direct path to pocket.

opinion: having seen several style bowlers throw this ball very impressed not the best ball for high speed rev'ers since not a sharp enough move but when they move money. this ball is simple nothing flashy simple reminds me alot of the burgundy hammer i had in jr. league when i learned to bowl. unless you want to go with crazy extreme layouts this ball will work on short and extremely dry patterns and is very predictable

The NEW Storm Natural really makes me appreciate the game more with the 1980's type motion it gives me.  I layed mine out 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 with a hole on my axis (4 3/4 x 1 up)  This ball is a must have for real short pba or sport patterns.  The Natural will keep you out of trouble on those grind type of conditions.  The turbine core has turned into one of my FAVORITE core designs with my proven success with the fast, furious, and both street rods.  I was extremely surprised that this ball still flared about 4-5 inches.  There is also no such thing as deflection with this ball, it is just like any other STORM ball on the market, very continuous through the pins.  A must have for all Tournament Bowlers!!!  Bowl Up A Storm

Got my Natural a few weeks ago and I am pretty pleased with it.  Just put
the pin over and center of the bridge and the cg kick slightly just to give
it a little out back.  I really like the look this ball gives me playing out
around the first arrow,  its very tame and hit still hits great thanks to the
core.  A lot of players would benefit having this ball on the shorter, lighter tight patterns, regardless of revrate.  Lower rev players should not be intimidated by the urethane cover, worrying about having the turn to make it move, you can play direct and still have the modern hit that you have come to enjoy with Storms other equipment.  Thanks Storm

Very nice ball. When I read the reviews, it said that the ball was great on dry lanes. Well I haven't had that experience yet but I bowled with it during league night with light to medium oil. The Natural doesn't break a whole lot but it is very consistent. If you can hit your mark within a board or two, the ball will crush the pocket. Last week, using the Natural for the first time, I bowled a 204/277/190. A very good series for me. The next night, I bowled not as high but very consistent 635. I think the ball works! It breaks about 8 to 10 boards consistently. A great ball from Storm!

Just got the ball last week and I do like the ball, however, even this ball started to burn up for the 3rd game, started hooking just past the arrows. I guess that tells you how fried these lanes are. May have to adjust the cover a bit to get down the lane a bit. Game 1 and 2 it was working great and crushing the pocket. Has great hitting power. Ball has a 4 inch pin, pin is above ring finger and CG is in the palm. Hoping a cover adjustment will work for the 3 game.

Drilled mine 5x4 with pin above ring, no hole.  Left it box finish.  This was a long awaited addition to my arsenal because the thunder flash was an all time favorite of mine.  This ball is much smoother as compared to the thunder flash, which is cool, with surprisingly good pin carry.  Compared currently with my troad solid which is my smoothest "benchmark" ball right now, this thing handles the dry very well, strong arc, not jumpy...lets me see a part of the lane im not used to seeing!  Overall a winner for Storm, very usable even on med house patterns and awesome on shorter sport patterns.

Layout: 5x5 (cg & pin on centerline w/ pin above the fingers)
See profile for stats

I tried using my Natural out of the box but the surface grabbed to early for me. My fix was to knock the surface down to 1000 and add a touch of Moonshine. So after a practice session with it, along with some old 1000 & 2000 abralons, the look has been discovered.

If you are buying a Natural thinking you're going to open the lane up, wrong! What you can expect from the Natural is a nice smooth reaction and good carry. Once I settled into the reaction and remembered what it was like to bowl with a "learn to bowl" reaction the pins were dancing! For me, this ball is going to serve as my weapon of choice when the THS hooks or at tournaments where I need to play straighter to match-up and score!
