Title: Nova
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on January 14, 2022, 10:02:55 AM
The Storm Nova high-performance bowling ball advances core technology astronomically! By combining the advanced asymmetric Ignition core with the R2X Hybrid Reactive coverstock Storm is able to achieve the striking power that is expected from their high-performance bowling balls. This ball was designed to rev up fast and have a powerful finish with more movement downlane and extra flare potential. The hybrid coverstock and 3000-grit finish is ideal for heavy oiled lanes but is versatile enough to handle many conditions and surfaces with no problem.

The Nova is a  pretty interesting piece for me. It slots in as a stronger, more typical asym over the RST-X1.  The Nova to me is a faster Reality, but not near as fast as the Altered Reality.

I don’t think that this is a niche ball at all.  With surface changes this ball can cover a lot of ground.  Out of the box it’s Strong with plenty of teeth and continuation.  In central Indiana we have a lot of wood centers still or older synthetics.  I hit the ball with Storm’s Step 2 compound which shined it up pretty well.  It was actually a little too clean so I hit it again with a 3000 pad and boom, its perfect.

Super Versatile, Continuous Asym!  Get after it!
My layout is 4x5x2 or 50x5x30

Other balls getting a lot of play:
Dark Code-4x6x2
UFO Alert-4.5x5x3.75
Altered Reality-4.25x5.25x2
Wolverine-4.25x5.25x2

Hey everyone, this is Storm staff member Josh Shoemaker here again with another ball review for the brand-new Nova. As always, I would like to thank Storm for providing the equipment I use every time I step out onto the lanes and I Am Bowling for making sure I always look good no matter what! Today I will be bowling on a standard medium to higher volume house shot in a new center. This will most likely be where a majority of my videos will be recorded from now on due to myself bowling league here now. This lane had a ton of friction from leagues and open bowling but I decided to roll with it anyways. This will give everyone a good look of how the ball rolls on less than ideal conditions. The Nova features the ignition core which has an RG of 2.49, differential of 0.052 and intermediate split of 0.019 in 15 lbs. The ignition core is wrapped in R2X which is designed to fit right in between R2S and NRG. This is the first bigger cover and core asym I’ve drilled pin up since the Honey Badger Intensity. I wanted an option similar to my RST but more forward off the end of the pattern. Luckily, I guessed correctly and that’s exactly what I see out of this ball. I had a chance to throw it on a fresh league condition after filming this video and I was able to stand a zone farther right the first two games compared to where I normally play. Compared to the RST, the Nova is more forward off the end of the pattern and a touch cleaner overall. Compared to the Proton PhysiX, the Nova is a pretty substantial step down in terms of overall friction created and would be a great 2 ball off of the Proton. The Nova is available for pre order from any Storm VIP Pro shop for the January 14th release!

The new Storm Nova is going to be something very special. Using the Ignition Core helps the Nova rev up fast and finish strong with a more aggressive movement down lane. Wrapped with the R2X Hybrid coverstock, this helps make this one of the most versatile balls I have ever thrown. Out of the box, the Nova comes with a little surface at 3000 grit. With this surface, the ball is very strong in the fronts and midlane, with mild backend, which is perfect for heavier oil. For me I wanted to see how it would do when adding some shine to it, so I added Storms reacta shine to it and I was not disappointed. The ball got through the fronts so easily now, but still reacted well in the mid-lane, while retaining so much energy on the backend. It did not matter how far left I moved, the ball just kept coming back and shredding the rack. I will be drilling another one to keep surface on for fresh oil, and shine on my other one to throw when it starts reading too early.

The Nova is Storm’s newest ball in their asymmetrical line. It is similar to the Proton Physix and Reality, but of course is slightly different. The Nova will be the first ball out of my bag on medium patterns, and on long patterns will come out when the Proton Physix is hooking too early and burning up. I polished the Nova, then hit it with a 2000 abralon pad, and that helps it retain more energy. I believe that is the way to go if you are going to throw it on house shots or anything that hooks a lot. I really like the color pattern on the Nova as well. Being green and red, it is very readable going down the lane and looks flat out good!

When i first heard about the Nova, my first thought was is this the new physix. But was i wrong this ball is much stronger. This is storms new big asymmetrical. This ball is not quite as early as a proton physix, but i ended up polishing mine to have it store more energy going through the pins. For all you high rev players like myself, if you dont have enough volume this ball rolls great at 2000 polished. For all you players that play down and in, leave this ball right at box finish and you won't be disappointed. Pick your favorite layout and you'll be off to the races.

The Storm Nova utilizes the new Ignition Core and the R2X Hybrid reactive cover.  We tested against the Helios Idol and Altered Reality.  The Nova reminded me of a stronger Reality.  The Nova is a little sooner than the Reality so I don’t feel like it will be as versatile but still more versatile than 90% of strong balls.  During testing, the Nova got better the deeper we moved.  We tested on a lighter oil pattern with crispy outsides so not the ideal condition for the Nova.  The Altered Reality performed the best because the pattern fit it better.  The Nova passed the eye test.  I feel it is going to be a real good one.  Arturo Quintero just highlighted it on the PBA Player’s Championship telecast.  The cherry apple slush scent is a bonus.  #Stormnation

Review:
The Storm Nova features the Ignition core which has been featured in a number of international releases. This first addition in a world wide release has been a huge success. For those that like ball motion similar to the 900 Global Reality and the Storm Proton Physix are really enjoying the Nova which overall hooks slightly less than the ^ balls.

For my video I went with the box finish, which for most will work extremely well. One recommendation I share for slower ball speeds such as myself is hitting solids with a 4K or 5K abralon pad on a spinner to gain a touch of extra length through the front part of the lane. Also, you can allow the ball to lane shine slightly which after a few games, you'll notice a little extra length out of most solid coverstocks.

This ball is what I would call a more tame version of a "hook monster" with great control and will allow more opportunity to open the lanes a bit before jumping into another ball. In regards to transition, I really enjoyed the 900 Global Volatility, but once the lanes changed I had to jump out of that ball very quickly. The Nova definitely allows more forgiveness for a bigger ball in the arsenal.

Be sure to try out a Storm Nova and fill that gap for fresh league and heavier volume tournament patterns. I'm definitely excited to use the Nova more in tournament competion. Please be sure to visit your favorite pro shop today!

The Nova features the R2X hybrid cover at a 3000 grit sanded finish and the new to us asymmetric Ignition core coming in at a 2.49 RG, .052 differential, and a .019 intermediate differential in 15 pounds.  R2X hybrid isn’t new, but it’s only been used twice before for the Virtual Energy and Modern Marvel, while we’ve seen the solid version most recently on the Hy-Road X.  The Ignition core is a new core to the US, it’s been used several times overseas, specifically in the Gate series, and is strong, very continuous and tumbly.  The overall package gives the Nova an incredibly versatile reaction.  The cover is medium strength, so while surface will help it hook on heavier volumes, shine will help it reach down to drier conditions than you might expect.  The core gives the reaction a more gradual but climbing and momentum building look to it.  If you raise your speed and/or lower your revs, the Nova can be very smooth and blendy, but if you slow roll it, you can hook the whole lane and get a sharper and more dynamic reaction.  The Nova is asymmetric but a medium strength asym and fits below something like a Proton PhysiX, and above the Phaze 3.

This is a different ball motion than I am used to seeing from Storm line of products. The Nova has the Ignition Core, which helps it get going earlier down the lane. Combined with the R2X Hybrid cover, the ball does not lack overall strength. For me, the cover surface is a little too much for the surface (wood) and volume (25mls) that I see on our typical house shot. A little polish gets the ball to go a little further while maintaining the same type of shape as an out of box reaction. This ball reminds me a lot of the Roto Grip RSX-1, but a little stronger overall. And it fits in as a nice step down from the 900 Global Reality.

The all new Storm Nova features the Ignition Core wrapped in the R2X Hybrid coverstock which allows the bowler to see the highest level of flare potential possible! The Nova has already received a ton of positive publicity being thrown by Ortoro on the Players Championship shows, as seen during those shows, this ball is a versatile option that goes through the pins extremely well! You will not be disappointed by this ball, my favorite part of this ball is that it is very receptive to surface changes, it rolls well with 1000 grit and it rolls well when you add polish to the ball. After talking to a number of people who have thrown this ball they have seen the most success letting the ball laneshine/polish. I am excited to get out on the lanes and throw this ball again, go out and get yours today!

I have a uniquely drilled shorter pin under Rubicon that I enjoy throwing. I wasn't sure exactly how to drill the Nova to fit in the bag so I put this layout on the Nova (70 x 3.5 × 80). I was pleasantly surprised with the results. This is not a ball I am going to personally circle the lane with which is fine. I could kind of tell that from the headquarters videos and early Staff reviews. I see the Rubicon as cleaner and the Nova as earlier and more round, yet they are similar in shape/strength and are great complements to one another. I think the Nova will prove to be a nice ball for tougher patterns and will match up for big rev rates that need a blend ball and lower rev rates looking for extra help.

Likes: I went very non-traditional with my Storm Nova. I drilled a Roto Grip UFO a few yrs ago that I laid the core over. The numbers were 5*5.5*75. Pin is down to the left of my center line and the mass bias is passed my VAL. This gives a super smooth motion because the flare was cut down tremendously. I went with the same layout on my Nova and it turned out fantastic!! Its a cleaner version of that UFO so it lets me be alittle straighter thru the front part of the lane, which i prefer. This ball is so versatile. Its going to be very very good on all types of patterns, house or sport.

WOW. Not to say I was skeptical of this ball, but it exceeded all expectations. It is much stronger than I could have anticipated based off the numbers. It does not stop when it hits the pins. Sometimes it can be a little more unpredictable than I would like in that it can decide to jump on me when I don’t move quick enough, but for the most part I have no issues controlling this ball. When it hits the pins it doesn’t stop, leaving solid 8 pins is not a thing with the Nova. We most recently saw the R2X hybrid cover on the Hy-Road X which is one of my all-time favorites. So it is no surprise that I am matching up well with it once again, the difference being the asymmetric core giving me a little more punch down lane. The Nova for me is extremely versatile, I can move right and get on it and it blends the pattern really well, or I can move left, let it roll more and it gives me a much sharper reaction down lane. I see the Nova getting a ton of action when I am bowling on sport patterns.

The Storm Nova features the R2X hybrid cover stock and the Ignition core. Out of the box this ball was strong and has no issue with handling oil. After a few games and some shine on the Nova, I found it to be even more versatile. I could take some handout of the ball and play straighter or move inside and wheel it. For me the Nova sits right under the 900 Global Reality. When the Nova is going a bit too long or too much oil I can switch to the Reality. The same goes when the Reality is picking up too early, I can move into the Nova to get it down the lane further before reading the friction. This ball is good and is going to be seen everywhere!

Layout 5 x 4 x 1.5
Style – stroker
Ball Speed – 14mph
Condition – house pattern on older HPL surface and newer Pro Lane
Surface – box condition

Initially, I wasn’t going to order a Nova. All though most of us would love to, you just can’t order everything that comes out. But one of my teammates ordered one and was incredibly impressed with the ball. And as they say, the rest is history. I ordered one and I’m glad I did.

I think the term versatile is the best way to describe this ball. It’s not so aggressive that I can’t use it with my slower ball. But I’m not going to hook the lane with it either given my rev rate. For me it’ll be a benchmark type of reaction that will handle more oil than say a Phaze II or a Rubicon.

Had no issue with getting the ball through the fronts in box condition. The continuation window is large as well. Given most league conditions, this could be the biggest ball in your bag, and I think you’d be okay.

The color scheme worried me as I have a thing for solid blue and black bowling balls. My eyes have trouble picking up certain colors at the breakpoint. I just can’t tell you where the ball is going to pick up. Even with the colors, I can see this one no problem.

An asymmetric ball with this much versatility in the cover gives you the best of both worlds. If you’re in the market for something new the Nova would make a nice addition to your bag.

Ball Reviews:
Nova/Phaze 4/Spectre
We have a good natural progression of the 3 new releases from Storm Bowling. From strongest to weakest would be the Nova, Phaze 4 then Spectre.
The Nova is a pretty strong bowling ball. For comparison purposes think of an Roto Grip X-1 on steroids as it is earlier and more continuous. The concept is similar in that it is a strong asymmetrical hybrid with surface. The difference would be about 2-3 boards more hook with the Nova. This would be great on the fresh and some transition on your typical house shots and on a variety of sport patterns when you want to begin opening up the lane and getting deeper into the oil.
The Phaze 4 is the newest compliment to the Phaze line; this time featuring a pearl coverstock. The Phaze 4 is pretty clean yet provides plenty of mid lane roll. The nice feature of this ball is the control element to it. It allows you to play into the oil and does not overreact when it sees friction. I drilled mine pin down to keep my angles closed. This ball will be a great ball on a multitude of patterns and/or house conditions when you begin opening up the lane. The pin down drilling allows me to use it on the fresh for THS. I, also, took the polish off and it blends the lane real well.
The Spectre is the cleanest of the 3 new releases. It will be a great step down off either of the 2 aforementioned balls. I drilled mine pin down and removed the surface to help blend the lane and keep my angles closer. When the fronts begin to really go and you need a ball that will get down lane and not labor the Spectre will be a great option to have.

Review:
This ball had a lot of hype with Storm’s youtube teaser and giveaways and we think it definitely lives up to it. First thing is this ball is very strong and really likes the oil. It reads early, similarly to the RST-X1 or the newer Reality, but still creates a lot of shape down lane. As you move left this ball seems to look better and better. We like that the ball gets into a roll early but doesn’t give up down lane. This is a ball that can give you a lot of confidence with its versatility. Playing with steeper angles or also playing straight down the lane allows this ball to look equally as good. Don’t be afraid of this BIG asymmetrical ball.

LANE CONDITION

The Nova by Storm is by far one of the heaviest rolling bowling balls that I have thrown in the past few years.  The combination of the R2X Hybrid Reactive cover stock and the Ignition Core is Phenomenal.  My coordinates are 300 rev rate (on a good day), loves playing right and close to the dry and my PAP is 5 5/8 over and ¾ up.  The layout I used was 5 ¼ X 4 ½ X 1 7/8 and did change the cover to hand spun 3000 to add a little shine.  This layout is a favorite of mine because pin placement gives me a little push, mass bias is kind of strong and the buffer helps it transition.

The Nova wants to start up early and loves the oil.  However, even with my lower rev rate the Nova will turn the corner down lane and still get the corners out.  I hit in with 3000 so I could play closer to the friction and be comfortable on the fresh league pattern.  That was a success but after several games and the front part of the lane started to burn up the Nova forced me to open up my angles way too much for me.  I was uncomfortable throwing away from the pocket, but the Nova was in its comfort zone. The Nova surprised me because usually the bigger Asymmetrical bowling balls want to make a move and then sort of stop.  This did not happen until I was crossing around the 4th arrow and even then, it was impressive.  I did not have an asymmetrical to compare but I did have a 900 Global Zen Master and a Helios.  The Nova was a good 5 to 10 boards stronger at the arrows but the Zen Master’s backend was very similar to the Nova’s.  Heavy rolling and unrelenting but forgiving at the same time.  Overall I was impressed by the Nova and will recommend it if you need help in the power department.

The Nova is a beast and will be apart of my tournament bag because the Nova fits the Heavy Oil or Longer Pattern Niche.

Review:
The new Storm Nova is a very strong sanded hybrid. I first compared it to my Incite and it was much stronger especially down lane. I then compared it to my Zen Master and it is similar but stronger overall. After testing this ball on a few patterns I feel it is best when you can start it in the oil and get to the friction further down the lane. When I got the ball to the dry too quick it used too much energy early and did not react on the back as much as I would have liked. In the oil it is a very good predictable strong ball. This ball at box surface fits between my Zen Master and Gem. This ball has been selling well and was a hit at our last ball demo. I took my second Nova and polished it up. It is beautiful but really cuts down on the hook. If you have a higher rev rate or low speed the polished finish should work well, if you are lower rev or roll fast I would leave it sanded. Surface changes are great because they can drastically change motion and if you don’t like a change you can put it back to box. No harm no foul. If you are looking for a nice strong predicable ball that hits hard the Nova would be a very good choice.

Summary:
The Storm Nova is a strong rolling ball.
The Ball reads oilier patterns very well.
The Nova hits hard and drives nicely through the pins.

Storm Nova Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

The latest addition to the Premier line at Storm is the Nova.  Under the hood is the Ignition Core which is designed to rev up fast and create a quick response time down lane.  Because the core is so strong, the flare potential is over 6” which means the Nova is designed to hook!  The coverstock is the famous R2S which can be found on several successful balls Storm has made over the years.

I’ve drilled one Nova so far and really like it.  I mapped it out as 5 x 4.5 x 75.  This puts the pin above my bridge and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb.  When comparing the Nova to a Proton Physix or similar asymmetrical balls currently in the line, I believe the response time is quicker with the Nova.  Also, I’ve had success using it on multiple types of patterns.  On the longer patterns where I need to keep my angles tighter, I’ve seen the Nova “dig” enough that it hooks in the right spot.  On the other hand, the core is big enough that it looks great on short patterns also.

Overall, if you need a big core with a ton of flare potential that can be used on several types of patterns, the Nova should be the next ball you drill.

The Storm Nova is the new powerhouse in the premier line. They wrapped R2X Hybrid around the ignition core. R2X is supposed to fit between R2S and NRG covers which should make it a bit cleaner than the nano covers. The Ignition core is as strong as you would expect from a core with a diff in the 50s and and psa diff of .019.

I tested the Nova in my home center on our high volume pattern. Anticipating a very strong reaction I opted for a bit weaker drilling over-all. I had hoped to stretch the transition of the ball a bit so it didn't use that massive amount of stored energy at once. I'm definitely glad I didn't drill it stronger because despite my attempts to tailor the reaction with this layout, the Nova for me definitely uses it all at once. Even with the considerable volume it never misses the Midlane. I had hoped for a little more continuation but I've definitely found myself having to go away from the Nova pretty quickly as the lanes transition.

It does work fantastically well when you need to play straighter angles in the oil however. I found a great niche for it there on a very "sharkish" pattern. This ball will be better for bowlers with less hand or on greater volumes of oil.

At first glance, this looks like another big dull asym, with one purpose: cut through oil. But this ball is more than just a snow tire. The Nova is the most angular dull asymmetric ball I've ever thrown. Not only can i use the surface to blend out wet/dry, but i can step left and go around the lane without sacrificing carry. This ball is the best of both worlds.

Storm Nova Ball Review

Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Storm Nova and in 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the R2X Hybrid Coverstock and comes 3000-grit with an RG of 2.49 and a Diff of 0.051 and .019 Mass Bias
Layout for this ball is 3.5 X 4 X 2.5
This ball right her was a bit of a shock to me as I am someone that doesn’t have the big rev rate and bigger balls tend to burn up in the fronts for me as I personal stick to cleaner balls. From what I heard from other staffers and talking with my PSO we decided to pull the trigger with this ball and I was surprised for sure. I know many that shined this ball as soon as they got it, but I kept it at the box 3k and just to see what it would do on a tighter pattern. I was able to keep the ball in front of me and didn’t see it burn up in the heads and has stayed in the bag.

LANE CONDITION

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Multiple Patterns (Sport and Receational)

COMMENTS

The Nova is a bowling ball that I can see myself throwing a lot in multiple environments. The Nova features a revolutionary Ignition core which is paired with an innovative R2X coverstock technology. A strong asymmetrical core has a lot of flare potential and this coverstock seems to get down the relatively easy.

I drilled my Nova with a pin-down layout with hopes of stretching the roll phase and reducing the flare potential. I am pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the Nova as well as its continuation. The Nova seems to be quite versatile and responds very well to changes in release. The R2X coverstock allows the Nova to stay online easier and the Ignition core produces enough continuation for more open launch angles. I believe the Nova fits well between the Proton PhysiX and the Dark Code.

I think the Nova works best on fresh medium patterns, especially at the bowling centers that have older/more worn lane surfaces. The Nova allows me to start with straighter angles and then open-up my launch angles as the patterns transition. I also believe that, with a little more surface, the Nova works well on shorter patterns when there is a lot of carry-down from urethane bowling balls. Lastly, because the Nova is quite versatile, I think it works well on fresh house-shots as it blends the over/under reaction quite well. The Nova will be my go-to asymmetrical bowling ball in the upcoming tournaments.

Storm has once again redefined hook and roll with the release of the all-new Nova! The Nova is a mighty, oil-eating goliath that destroys anything that gets in its path! Further, it is a game-changer for down-and-in or straighter players like me. So, let's break down this monster on a THS!

The heart of the Nova is the Ignition Core! This new Storm shape and design brings a strong dynamic advancement for down-and-in players like me. I liked how the Ignition core revs methodically in the mid-lane, yet gives you a definitive motion you can clearly see and predict down the lane. Further, regardless of how hard I had to make this core work, due to an errant shot, I found the Ignition Core to be quite decisive as it made its turn towards the pocket! And when the Ignition Core gets to the roll phase, it has an uncompromising power that crushes the pins at impact. I also loved how this core has relentless continuation through the pin deck as it steamrolls through anything in its path! For a down-and-in player, Storm has hit the mark with the design of the Ignition Core.

I am a huge fan of Hybrid Coverstocks, and the R2X Hybrid Reactive Coverstock is just the right blend for the Nova. Early on a THS, standing 17-18 and looking 8-10, I liked how the R2X was smooth and etched its way through the front part of the lane instead of reading at my toes or being aggressive from the moment it left my hand. In addition, I liked how the R2X had a smooth, consistent traction as it made its way through the mid-lane! Although this cover is quite strong, I liked that it didn't overreact or get too "jumpy" when the conditions had just begun to break down. I found that the R2X works best on fresh or higher volumes of oil. However, I also liked how the R2X Hybrid allowed a straighter player like me to move in with confidence and not fear, standing 27 and looking at 15! Trust me, for a higher speed, rev-challenged player that is an incredible feeling!

In conclusion, the Nova is an impressive new release from Storm! With the ignition core and the R2X Hybrid coverstock, Storm has created a winning combination that will undoubtedly elevate your game. And if you're a high-speed/low-rev player like me, the Nova is a lethal weapon to add to your arsenal! So, talk to your local pro shop operator today and see where the new Storm Nova belongs in your arsenal. It will be a great fit!

I drilled my NOVA up with a 60 x 4.5 x 30 layout. This put the PSA just slightly in my thumb. I have thrown it at box finish and also hit it with a 2000 pad for a longer pattern to try on.

I like the motion this NOVA offers. I was able to keep it slightly tighter with smaller angles on a slick 46 foot pattern and the ball hits well. I was also able to start and open my angles up with it and still get recovery so a duller hybrid that doesn't quit in the back.

I threw it side by side with some other balls that I like on longer/higher volume patterns like the TREND 2, the new GEM, and the INCITE. Where the TREND 2 was a better ball down option, the NOVA stretched the pattern a little longer for me before I put the TREND 2 in play. The GEM was a much earlier move and the NOVA became the better ball down option off the GEM. The INCITE even though a hybrid cover was much slower at the spot compared to the NOVA. The INCITE would be a better option if the volume was higher but the pattern a little shorter where the NOVA might take too much angle to get to the pocket. Possibly polishing the NOVA lightly would make this a good ball down option using this strategy of INCITE to start with.

Pick this one up if you want a ball that is versatile and can compliment both your big hitters and your stronger mediums with cover changes.

NOVA: R2X Hybrid Cover
Core: New Ignition Core
RG: 2.49 Dif: 0.52 PSA: 0.019

Layout: 45 x 4 1/4 x 30, Speed Dominant, Rev Rate 275-325 PAP: 5 ¾ over 1” up.

The NOVA has arrived. A brand to ball with the introduction of the Ignition Core. I absolutely love this ball. There are not very many asymmetrical balls this I seem to match up well with that roll and continue that I like. But the Nova is a big winner. This ball is very round and smooth. It’s a motion that I have not seen in a Storm ball before one the I like. The Nova reads the mid lane very well and picks up and just keeps going. It is very smooth and predictable. It does not seem to overreact off the dry and yet can get through the oil as well. The Nova revs up like nothing I’ve ever thrown picks up and just keeps going. As a pro shop manager/operator this is this most versatile ball on the market. You can adjust surface, play in, play straighter, works on longer shorter patterns as well. The Nova has been the first ball out of my bag since it was released. Great for any style of play!!

The Storm Nova is my favorite "pattern" ball. The ultimate ball when the pattern makes missing the head pin possible. While it has tons of control I don't like to use that word with it to give the wrong idea. While control is a definite strength it still has a fantastic move at the break point to make it strike a ton! The cover is equally good out of the box as it is polished. Definitely makes having 2 of them in the bag an option.

The Storm Nova features the R2X Hybrid Reactive coverstock surrounding the all-new Ignition Core.  The RG at 15lbs is 2.49 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .019.  The new Nova is a very versatile ball for an asymmetric.  Usually, I need to put the asymmetric balls away after just a game or two because they start to lose to much energy.  That is not the case with the Nova.  The coverstock can handle some of the heaviest oil conditions but that’s not the end game for this ball.  The Nova allows me to open my angles more than usual and throw it away from the pocket and still have enough energy to get back to the pocket and go through the pins properly in order to carry.  For me the Nova fits right in between the Proton Physix which is about three boards left with my feet, and the Phaze II which is about three boards to the right with my feet when compared to the Nova.  The Nova really blends out the typical wet/dry house pattern.  I generally don’t use this strong of a ball on league conditions but I was able to throw a 300 the first night using this great addition to the Storm line.

I'm a little late to the party with the Storm Nova, and I wish I wouldn't have waited on it! I went with a 45 X 5 x 65 layout, and the predictable, strong, continuous motion I get is what I needed and wanted out of this spot in the bag. Generally, hybrids and I have a great relationship and this is no exception. The 3000 grit finish is the happy medium between mid-lane and length. Being low RG and asymmetric, it fits closer to the top of the bag, but still under a Reality or a Gem. If either of those seems to be too much too early on whatever you're bowling on, this is the small step down from either of those.

Ball Specs:
Storm Nova
3000-grit R2Xâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Ignitionâ„¢ Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Hot Pink/Lime/Jet Black

Review:
My first initial though on this ball was that it was going to be to close to my reality. But after throwing is some and making some surface changes, I quickly realized this ball was going to have its own place within my bag. Unlike most dull balls this ball doesn’t care if you move left, it almost encouraged it at times. When I added some polish to the cover that is when I fell in love with this ball. This ball allowed me to play deeper on the lane and still had enough pop on the backend to kick those pesky ten pins out. If you haven’t picked up your Nova yet make sure you do so now!

Storm Nova

Core---Ignition Core

Coverstock---RX2 Hybrid Reactive

Late for the review but couldn't skip this one...the Nova deserves a great review.

Out of the box, the Nova is strong and smooth. After a few games, lane shine sets in and it adds a touch of length and angle on the backend.

It fills the small gap between my 900Global Reality and Roto Grip RST-X1.

Since getting the Nova, it has been my go to ball on any shot with medium-heavy oil. I can still control it on medium stuff and it fights though the oiliest stuff we see in my area. So much versatility for a strong ball. Reminds me a lot of the RST-X1 as far as versatility goes...but it is definitely stronger.

I can't wait for more releases with the Ignition core. It's been a hit for years overseas in the Gate Series and I am sure it will continue to gain popularity here in the US.

Best Storm/RG/900G release for me since the Phaze 3 (my favorite).

Storm Nova
Coverstock: RSX Hybrid
Block: Ignition Core
Factory Finish: 3000-grit
Tested Finish: 5000-grit
Layout: 65 x 3 ½ x 50
I picked the surface change due to the lane conditions and
Type of lane surface I bowl on.
The Storm Nova was a great addition to line up a few weeks ago, and I had a grip and pitch changes thanks to Staff Manager Mike Sinek to get use to before I drilled another Nova and drill up new stuff. (I don’t like plugging balls; I donate them right to the juniors in my area). I found with the Nova with box surface a little bit early in movement when coming off of the pattern than my other recent hybrid coverstock balls. So, I ran the gauntlet of grits from 360, 500, 800, 1000, 1500,2000,3000,4000 and 5000, and was able to speed up the ball in the front part of the pattern, which in turn saved additional energy, but still was enough of RA valve on the cover to make a strong recovery and not “skate” through the back part of the lane. The ball fits great between my Roto Grip GEM and Roto Grip Hyped Pearl. With the cover as it has been prepped reminds A LOT of the Roto Grip Idol Magenta. If you still looking for that great MID strength bowling ball for the upcoming tournaments and next season, look no farther than the Storm NOVA.
