Title: Second Dimension
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
Color: Midnight Sky/Malibu/Wine All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
- Coverstock: R2X Pearl with E.T.M. (Enhanced Traction Mica)
- Weight Block: Continuum Core
- Ball Finish: 1500-grit Polish
- Flare Potential: 5”-6” (Med-High)
- RG: 16 - 2.49, 15 - 2.51, 14 - 2.55
- Diff: 16 - .49, 15 - .48, 14 - .45
- Fragrance: Apple Pie
- Description: Storm has developed a pearlized version of the Dimensionâ„¢ with enhanced traction in the carry-down and increased entry angle to the pocket. We knew the perfect complement to the original Dimensionâ„¢ would be to wrap the Continuumâ„¢ core in a pearlized version of the R2Xâ„¢ coverstock. This would give added length and increased entry angle to the pocket on medium to lighter volume patterns. This ball is also be the perfect go-to ball once the Dimensionâ„¢ starts to read early friction in the front of the lane, causing it to slow down too fast. The idea is to utilize a different type of mica that would change the surface profile of the coverstock and create enhanced friction with the lane surface. What we have developed could possibly be the next evolution in surface technology.

Right hand

Ball 1: 3" pin
Drill pattern: 40 x 4.5 x 30: WH 1" x 2" deep, flare reducing
Surface: 2000 Abralon with light polish
Purpose: House shot after transition and carry down.

Results: I rolled a five game sweeper on a 41' THS. Started with the Virtual for the first game and a half. At that point the heads were staring to go and the oil was pushing up. Went to this ball, which gave me more length and excellent read of the lanes. The surprise was the punchiness it had off the spot. Being symmetrical, I didn't want a rolling arc to the pocket but I didn't need a flip either. What I have is a clean, punchy move that is completely predictable and actually revs up as its making it's move.

Bonus: Ball rolls very good on the shorter, flat patterns like the Cheetah and the Chameleon. This layout carries really well as the angle created is tight, yet explosive.

Ball 2:  4" pin
Drill Pattern: 50 x 3.3/8 x 55: WH 1" x 2.75 deep, diff. increasing
4000 Abralon with Polish
Purpose: length with an attacking motion

Results:

I drilled mine 4 1/2 x 3 1/2  I am left handed and the pin is down and below my middle.  Ball speed from 17 to 19 mph rotation 475+
I bowled it on the THS 37 feet buffed to 39  I am very Impressed how strong the midlane this ball has.  When my Virtual Gravity hooks too much.  I go to the second dimension.  It goes down about 2 feet more down and roars into the pocket like nobodys business.  I am so happy they came out with this ball.  If you like pearl balls I would suggest you getting this ball.

Storm Second Dimension impression, but first some background.

I am a medium high rev rate player with normal ball speed in the 17 to 18 MPH range.  My PAP is 5 3/4 vertical and +1/8 horizontal.
I wanted to drill my Second Dimension as close to my Virtual Gravity as I could.  The pin to CG distance made me alter that a little.  The pin on the Second Dimension is above the ring finger instead of below the ring finger like my Virtual.  I place the pin 5 1/4 from my PAP and the CG is 3 1/2 from my PAP.  This placed the CG about 3/4 inches above the midline.  I placed the extra hole on my PAP.  I used this ball in my league on the house pattern.  Our house pattern is 43 feet in length with a total oil volume of 21.25 ml.

My first impression how clean the ball was in the front part of the lane.  I really liked that.  My second impression was how am I going to control this ball at the end of the pattern.  My league mates loved the direction change this ball made down the lane.  After I got used to the look, so did I.  I started with a 4-9, missed it, and then went off the sheet.  Never had a thought about leaving anything standing, but then I started the second game.  Lane condition breakdown took me to the land of 9 and 4 pins.  Not having used a ball with a change of direction like this since the Gravity Shift, I was slow to make the proper move.  Once I chased the pattern in much deeper, the strikes came back.  If it were not for a lack of moving one more time in the 6th frame, I would have shot 300 the last game.  I do not think I could have lost the recovery and hitting power of this ball no matter how far left I would have moved.

My two favorite pearl Storm balls are the Shift and the T-Road Pearl.  The Second Dimension gives me the same length as the T-Road Pearl and a more angular move at the breakpoint, and not quite as early on reading that breakpoint.  Adding the Virtual Gravity into this arsenal, and I have 4 balls that can handle any of the conditions I think I will see.

I can't wait to use this ball again and on some tougher patterns.  This is a pearl that will probably work better with some carrydown for me where the T-Road pearl wants to hang at times and will turn the corner stronger than my Shift.  The coverstock and the core seem to be a perfect match for the Second Dimension.

I never thought I would like baked apple pie this much.

Ball Weight 15lbs 3oz

Top Weight 3.02oz

Pin 3-3.5 inch (3 ¼  to be exact)

Rev Rate 450 RPM with a ball speed of 17.5 (C.A.T.S. Measured)

Layout: 5 ¼ inch pin to PAP by 3 7/8 inch CG to PAP with a 2 ½ inch Pin Buffer

Post Drilling left me with ½ oz of finger weight and 3/8 oz of side weight, so no hole needed.

Left the Ball at Box Finish (1500-grit Polished)

With the 2D I was looking for length and controlled back-end motion, and that is exactly what I got of it. On my league nights I feel there is not enough oil out there to really have a good look with the original Dimension. With the 2D I get the extra two-three feet that I need when going from my skid to hook phases on the lane. The motion of this ball is just amazing as all three transitions were as smooth as can be.,not a violent snap on the back . When it hits the pin deck, there truly is an explosion-like look on the pins, as they seem to get sucked into the center before they shoot back and away. Walked away from this night with 695 series for the three games thanks to some late adjustments in game three,  I probably would've had a higher series. Operator error.

Yesterday I went back to the center to do my normal practice routine with a new ball and get some video work done for study. I start off playing the lanes in my normal zone 15 to 6, and I had the same look as I had in league. So I bailed on that line to really see what this ball is capable of doing. First, I made a 3 and 2 move right to get into the friction early. The 2D responded well to this “miss” shot by not jumping off the spot, but rather saving the energy and giving me a similar down lane motion. This opened my eyes because I've always had a problem hitting friction early with pearl covers. Although the hits weren't as clean as I would like them, the results were nearly the same as my “A” game line.

Next I moved in deep to 30 with a break point of 12 to see how the reaction to being in oil the longest amount of time would be.  At first, not so well as my rev rate was over powering the back part of the lane. But after making some adjustments with hand I was able to get the ball to “fade” into the pocket while still getting the explosion-like hit on the deck.

In closing this is an A+++ from Storm. The apple pie fragrance and colors of this ball definitely give it some shelf appeal. I've already had a few hits on the ball from some of my customers and league bowlers at the center, but I had to play the teaser role this week for them. Should make them more hungry for it.

I will have the videos on my myspace page later on this week for those interested.

Hand: Left handed

Ball Speed: 16-17mph

Ball Weight: 15lbs 3oz

Top: 2.88oz

Pin: 2.5-3

Layout: Labled (pin next to ring finger with cg in the midline)

Well first off I would like to say that this ball is amazing! I drilled up the new Storm Second Dimension which is the newest ball from the Storm master line. It is a pearl version of the original Dimension. I drilled mines label drilling with the pin next to my ring finger and cg in the middle of my midline. The Second Dimension is really clean through the heads and reads the midlane consistently and has a medium backend reaction. Its not as flippy as the Storm Hyroad so if you want a ball for house shots this is the ball to have.

It is a really good compliment to the Dimension so when the heads dry up or the midlane is hooking up too early, you can go to the Second Dimension and it will go through the mess and keep the backend reaction the Dimension had.

I have used it during league and at my bowling center its been too dry to use so I haven't been able to see how it is on a typical house shot. I have bowled a tournament and the shot was where you couldn't really swing the ball. It was more of a straight up the boards or maybe swing 10 to 4 shot. I used the Second Dimension and the ball didn't care what was out there. I was able to swing it 16 to 5, more than everyone else even through the oil.

I have a picture of my Second Dimension drilled in my photo album on myspace! If you have any questions about the Second dimension email at grichardson7716@aol.com.

WOW.... Another proven winner from our friends in Utah!  I layed my Second Dimension out with a 4x4 layout with a small hole straight across and lightly hit the cover with a beat up 2000 pad.  The pin is to the right of my ring finger and slightly above.  My axis is 4 3/4 and 1 up.  It is so predictable through the front just like every storm ball on the market today, and extremely angular down lane.  The perfect compliment to the Dimension Solid.  When the dimesion tends to read a hair to soon, switch to your second dimension and open the whole lane up to many possibilities...  The R2x cover with the additives on top of the dimension core= trouble to everyone else out there who doesnt have one in their hands.  A total disadvantage to the competition!!!  Go out and experience the 2nd Dimension!  Bowl Up A Storm.......

I drilled this 2nd Dimension with pin and CG stacked on my grip line, pin above fingers. I decided to go with this layout to compliment a Dimension drilled pin over ring, MB (6 3/4" from pin through cg) in strong position.

My first time on the lanes with the two balls (bowling on a house condition), I had the 2nd at box finish, and the Dimension also at 1500 grit polish (step 2).  After lining up with the Dimension playing 15 @ arrows out to 8-10 board, I had great control of the lane, with a smooth arch off the spot, and strong roll through the pins. I used the 2nd, from the very same spot, and noticed a much easier clear of the heads, with the ball pushing out to 13-14 @ arrows, and breakpoint around 5-7 board. The ball took a much stronger move to the pocket, leaving a solid 8 pin. After a few shots with about the same results, I moved in two and two, and closed my shoulders so as to get a straighter trajectory through the heads, and was able to get rid of the 8 pin, only now to start seeing 7 pins. I quickly realized that this layout/surface prep was not enough for the abundance of oil in the middle of the lane.

The next day, I got to roll on the Chameleon pattern (40 foot version). I decided to clean up the Dimension with Reacta-Clean, and a well used 4000 abralon pad. I also cleaned the 2nd with Reacta-clean, but only used a white scotch brite pad. I wanted to separate the reaction of the two balls a bit more, as well as give me a better read of the heads on the 2nd. The two balls rolled great!! I was able to use the Dimension on the fresh playing up 7-8, and go to the 2nd after I broke down the heads a little, and created a softer backend. The 2nd Dimension was at home on this pattern, making it feel like an open league condition.

Last night I was able to use the two balls on the Viper pattern (38 foot version). I really only used the Dimension, because the 2nd was a little too strong in the backend, but I know that had I bowled a few more games (it was league, so 3 games & practice, and also I was the only lefty on my pair last night) I would have been able to go to the 2nd once the pattern broke down a bit more.

In closing, this 2nd Dimension is going to be a great ball for flatter patterns on slicker lane surfaces. I would recommend lefties to use a bit of surface on pin over layouts to help get more traction in flooded over-walled heads, so as to even out the reaction through the lane, or if you don't like surface, maybe go pin under fingers. For the righties, drill with your favorite layout, and just chase the pattern in as it breaks down. This ball is going to be a monster seller once it hits the public market. It will compliment your Dimensions very well, when you need more reaction in the backend, as well as be a great ball down from the Virtual Gravity. We do not have anything in our current line-up that gives this look on the lanes. This will be a great addition to anyone's arsenal looking for a strong but controlled motion down lane. I will be drilling another 2nd Dimension with a pin under drilling. I feel that a pin under will give me more pattern coverage, and will control the lane more evenly.

Now... a look at the 2nd Dimension from the left side.

Got mine about a week ago, drilled 3-3/8 X 5, pin just left of ring finger, key about 8:00 to the thumb.

I was originally going to drill this one weaker since the pin was about 4" from CG but I decided at the last minute to go stronger.

First action was my home center, old wood lanes, toasted house shot. I was amazed how strong a pearl ball could react in the mid lane but the 2D didn't disappoint. Just to keep the ball left of the headpin, I had to move an arrow right of my "comfort zone" on the approach. (feel free to insert lefties having to move their feet joke anytime  ) Normally, when I get that far right, I have trouble with the ball burning up in the mids and the plaque 7 pins begin to pile up. No problem for the Continuum weight block. Even with an earlier read, the ball had plenty of energy down the lane and carried well even on less than perfect hits. The 3-3/8 pin translated to between 5 and 6 inches of flare--not bad for a rev challenged guy like me. Three game set: 711

The next opportunity came two nights later, different center, ProLane surface (new). Shot was much tighter (about two arrows left for me) which gave me a chance to see how this ball would do in oil. Answer... impressive. I piped the ball straight up 7 most of the set, great length and while the ball didn't "explode" on the back end, the Continuum core earned its name with a smooth, very continuous move off the breakpoint. The only blemish on the night was two smash 10 pins and two smash 8 pins, all in the middle of strings. For someone without a lot of hand, that's unusual. Three game set: 739.

Overall observation... the 2nd Dimension performed as advertised, more length than the Virtual Gravity with more midlane read than the Hy-Road. In other words, a perfect addition to the arsenal. When I have a chance to hit a Sport/PBA pattern with it, I'll add that to my review.

Second Dimension Review

Layout: 5 inch pin to PAP by 4 inch CG to PAP with a 3 inch Pin Buffer.

Left the Ball at Box Finish (1500-grit Polished)

I am right handed, medium high rev with around 17 MPH ball speed.

We drilled this ball with one of my favorite layouts. I was looking for it to clear the heads easily with strong midlane roll. That is exactly what I got from it. I am able to play multiple angles with this ball. I used it in league on a THS and I have to say it was the best ball I have had in my hand for that pattern. I started off playing 15 at the arrows to 7 at the breakpoint. This was an excellent look. The off shot carry was great, something I have not had in a few months.

As the night went on I made a 5 – 2 move and this ball really shined. The lanes opened up and this ball would make it back to the pocket from any angle. I had unlimited miss right and could still strike. For me this ball would make a strong turn on the back and still carry the 10 pin. This is the best ball on this pattern I have had in my hand for a while. I always like the regular Shift on house patterns as I had a similar look with it. But I feel the 2D gives me better pin carry and more controlled back end movement.

This is an excellent ball from Storm. You will be able to use this ball on multiple patterns and still find the pocket. On tighter patterns I will start with my Virtual and switch to the 2D as the lanes open up. You will not be disappointed with this ball. It does exactly what is advertised.

Drilled 5x3

This ball is to strong for a THS I normally get away with throwing my Gravity shift on this pattern, But had to move way in from my comfort zone with the 2D. Don't get me wrong I think this ball is amazing has great recovery and carry but for someone like me who dose not like to swing it a ton the Gravity shift is a way
better option.

Second Dimension
Great continuous motion to the pocket!!! Off the mid-lane
The R2X Coverstock is Storms product of evolution  research and development.
Coverstock:
R2X Pearl with ETM
Ball Finish:
1500-grit Polish
Second Dimension:  Coverstock, is user Friendly from polished to dull
Minor surface adjustments, will open up endless opportunity
Storm pearlized, and reformulated the R2X Coverstock by infusing a physically Mica known as Enhanced Traction Mica (E.T.M.).
Storm tests showed a 15% increase in surface profile, and as the ball traveled down the lane,
Also Storm saw a 10% jump in friction values.
Amazingly,
These friction surface values Give  the 2nd Dimension the ability to  remained consistent.. From the factory polished to a Abralon finish.
Abralon finish technology offers
Offers maximum flexibility by adding length and increased entry angle to the pocket on medium to lighter volume patterns.
Welcome to the Second Dimension.

This is the third excellent ball from Storm
You will be able to use this ball on multiple patterns and still find the pocket.
On tighter patterns I will start with my Virtual Gravity and switch to the 2D as the lanes open up. You will not be disappointed with this ball. It does exactly what is advertised.
react and read the mid lane
2nd Dimension is going to be a great ball for flatter patterns
Heavy Oil uses:
I would recommend surface adjust the shell is too shiny for heavy Oil.
The 2nd Dimesion  in it (factory polished) form is a little oil sensitive.

The apple  fragrance and colors of this ball definitely give it some  appeal

Description: Storm
has developed a pearlized version of the Dimension with enhanced traction
It works for me.

Name: Casey Murphy
Style: Right handed, 425 rpm, 16 mph ball speed
Axis: 4 13/16 over, 5/16 up

Ball: Second Dimension (1 of 2)
Layout: Dual Angle Layout (35 degree drilling angle, 5 1/4 inch from axis, 35 degree angle to the val) Basically, the pin is above and between my fingers, cg is kicked out a little.

Ball: 2nd Dimension (2 of 2)
Layout: Dual Angle Layout (30 degree drilling angle, 5 inches from the axis, 80 degree angle to the val). The pin is below and centered between my fingers, cg is kicked out quite a bit with a balance hole.

Playing around just after drilling the ball
Location: Sunshine Lanes, Springfield, MO
Lane Surface: Synthetic Heads, Wood Backends
Condition: House Condition, High volume. A lot of oil from 10 to 10, just a little less oil from 9 out to the gutter
Event: Practice
This ball is amazing! I will elaborate. My first game out of the box with 2nd Dimension #1....299. I left a 2 pin because I threw it way too hard and missed it at the bottom. Overall very strong and smooth backend. Was standing on 25, crossing around 15 with breakpoint around 7. Had a lot of room left and right. The ball rolled excellent in the midlane and was responsive on the backend almost every time. 2nd Dimension #2 was very good, but not nearly as impressive as #1. With the pin lower the ball wasn't nearly as responsive on the backend which is a must for scoring at Sunshine.

Central Illinois Tournament
Location: Kingpin Lanes, Springfield, IL
Lane Surface: Believe it or not, same as Sunshine Lanes, Synthetic Heads, Wood Backends
Condition: House/Tournament Condition, Medium-high volume in the middle. Pure 10 to 10 shot. You could have eaten off 9 to the gutter.
Event: Central Illinois Mens Tournament, Team event
We bowled the second team set of the day with no re-oil. Used 2nd Dimension #1. Was standing on 30, crossing 18, breakpoint around 9. There was quite a bit of carrydown and the outside was blended a little outside to about 7 so your ball didn't instantly hook when it went off the main oil pattern. I took advantage of it. 277, 238, 276 for 791. Had the front 9 the last game, needed the first one in the 10th for 800, but alias i threw it too hard and missed it at the bottom for a bucket. Very good day in the brackets.

Bowling Weekly Travel League
Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield, MO
Lane Surface: Original Anvillane. Lots of friction.
Condition: House Condition. Actually very flat and very short. Pretty tough house overall.
Event: League Night! Travel League, 2nd shift
There was some carrydown, but overall the lanes were flying. Used 2nd Dimension #2 to control the backends. By the end of the night was sliding on 44, crossing 28, breakpoint around 12. Shot 247, 254, 289 for 790. Had the front 10 the last game, needed the 2nd one in the 10th for 800, but left a 9 pin. Smoked the other team!

Overall
The 2nd Dimension rolls very smooth but has a very strong backend motion. I would call it the perfect mix of the Dimension and the HyRoad. For me the HyRoad has a very aggressive backend and i need a very high volume of oil or a lot of carrydown for it to be affective. The Dimension is very smooth for me and I prefer it on shorter oil patterns and fresher conditions. The 2nd Dimension is the best of both worlds with a smooth roll through the fronts and a controllable angular motion on the back. The only time you couldn't really pull this out of your bag is on a condition with SUPER clean backends and that's it. This is by far is the best 2nd shift ball I've ever thrown.

This ball is awsome! Drill pattern 5x4 with a 3 inch pin buffer, the 5 in. sent the ball long threw the heads, and 4 gave it a smooth backend a THS this ball didn't battle the over under and stayed clean on the backends. Medium revs and medium ball speed it was aggressive enough on fresh oil. As lanes broke down 3 and 1 move and missed the pocket once. (operator error)Everybody should have one in their bag. Oh the apple pie smell can make you alittle hungary! poopoo44 B.A.P.S.

The best ball I've ever thrown, and I've thrown a lot of bowling balls over the years.  I don't know the drill pattern, but I do know pin is located just under the ring finger (right handed) and it is 1.5" to 2".  Lane condition were meduim/Heavy conditions.  I used it on 2-9-09 and threw an awsome set.  I broke the Virginia State series record (879) with it.  I shot games of 297, 290, and 300 for an 887 set.  Keep up the great work Storm.  Can't wait for the new releases.  A very satisfied customer.

BALL REACTION
Length -  Very Excellent, even with the rolly core it got down the lane with ease. Likely due to the coverstock and surface.
Back End – This is where the ball makes its money. Its not hockey stick like, even with the pin up drilling, but its about as hard an arc as you can get without going sideways . But it definitely has an assertive move off the dry
Overall Hook – moderately high
Midlane Read - moderate
Breakpoint Shape – Super hard arch that’s borderline hockey stick.

COMMENTS
Carry – Excellent, didn’t leave many 7s  but that was usually when I got a little wide with it or tugged it
Likes – super smooth up front with a wicked but controllable backend
Dislikes – cant use it at my other house because its to dry
Other –smells great!

The Second Dimension started off great as the smell reminded me the X-Factor Re-Loaded. Or maybe I'm thinking of the Mrs. Smith pie I cooked the other day. YUMMY! LOL Color wise, it reminded me of the days of my El Nino Gold. For me, the Continuum Core has displayed a unique motion & pin carry. That core mated with the R2X pearl cover on “juice” with the E.T.M. added, I could not wait! I am hoping it’s like my Gravity a year down the road, rarely cleaned and still putting in work!

Real quick, I was bowling on a medium-high volume 42’ pattern that was not stripped, better known as a normal Tuesday night. The 2D had a grand coming out party as it dropped 766 on the paper and the score could have been higher had I been on. My teammates noted how forgiving the ball was on my errant shots, the key to scoring! I observed a ball that created the traction in the midlane to ensure it read on the break point down the lane. The change in direction was consistent shot after shot and the shots I missed in, the "Big Apple" still read the oil and generated the angle through the pocket to carry 10 back. For some, the surface will need to be roughed by hand as the 1,500 grit may be a bit slick.

Riding the advice of “Mr. 6 foot longs, 3 large fries & a diet drink” in Utah is why I copped a 2D with a 4.5” pin from the cg. I envisioned a ball that would float through the fronts and starting up in the mids with no quit at the back. I got exactly what I wished for too! Did they make this ball just for me, I wonder?

I drilled my Second Dimension the other day and was quite pleased as the ball did exactly what it is designed to do Strike and Strike more! I went with a label drilling 5x4 suggested by Ernest {technical advisor} at Storm  just to see what the ball had in a simple drilling and was rather amazed at how much this ball came off the spot down the lane. It is very strong but yet smooth must be the mica flecks in the ball. This ball is the perfect compliment to the Dimension, when it starts to loose some energy down the lane this ball just keeps on coming! Amazing

Once again Storm products has created a ball that delivers, very clean thru the front and really strong yet smooth off the spot. Good job can't wait for the next one.

First off, special thanks to Doene Moos of Storm for sending me this gem and to Victor Marion for laying it out for me.

Check out my specs in my profile first -- Victor had me lay it out with the pseudo mass bias at 6 3/4 and a 5" pin X 4" MB.  The pin ends up being just above and a little left of my ring finger and the cg just underneath the ring.

I tested this ball on 3 different patterns, all were on Brunswick Pro Anvilane so here goes:

Pattern 1: USBC Nationals
I started playing with my feet at 30, crossing 17 at the arrows with a breakpoint at about 5 or 6, speed around 18.5.  The Second Dimension didn't even sniff the fronts then started getting into a nice roll and then just kicking left at the end of the 40 feet.  It was almost uncontrollable at a point. I picked up the speed to about 21 and was able to bump my feet about 4 right and close my angles in a bit, and this thing just destroyed the pins.  I think it would be an amazing ball to start with at nationals, but you'll definitely have to put it away a game or so into it.

Pattern 2: 41' "heavier" volume THS
I say heavier volume because my home house doesn't hook nearly as much as any other THS around the area so I put it in quotes because are any THS that heavy?  you know what I mean.  Anyway, I started with my feet around 20, trying to cross about 15 and the arrows and 8 or 9 at the breakpoint.  Since the fronts are sludge, crisco-esque, the ball tended to skate just a bit long it SEEMED at first before it got rolling.  The thing that surprised me was that even though it tended to go a bit longer than the nationals pattern, it got rolling just as hard and then kicked left again!  I was amazed to say the least because I usually don't have luck with pearl balls at this house until about the mid 2nd game.  I had to play a bit straighter than the nationals pattern but the ball hit just as hard!

Pattern 3 -- 2nd shift THS
I tried this puppy out at my Thursday 2nd shift league.  I was considerably left of where I was when the lanes are fresh, starting with my feet at 27, crossing 19 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 6 or 7.  The only thing I was afraid of with this ball was that if my angles got too opened up then my carry would suffer, and I was right.  6 strikes and 6 nine counts the first game and I knew it was time to put her away.  Because of the angle i was creating and the fact that it kicks so hard left at the end, if there isn't enough oil down lane, I think the carry will suffer with this ball

Overall, this is an amazing piece for patterns where you can either throw it a bit harder to keep your angles close together or for fresher patterns.  If your rev rate is fairly low I think it would be great at any time except for on heavier stuff, but hey, it's a pearl what do you expect?  I do have to say that this is the rolliest pearl I've ever owned and in comparison, is about 5 or 6 boards stronger than my rapid fire pearl and a good 8 boards more than my t-road pearl.  Another great product from the boys out in Utah.  Again, special thanks to Doene and Victor.  Bowl up a storm!

I just recently purchased my 2nd Dimension and I have to say I am a BIG fan. I bowl league at Bon Wood lanes in Murray,UT and my avearge is only 140, but i have been bowling 150-160 after couple weeks bowling with a Columbia 300 BULLY, I bought my 2nd just 2 days ago, I have than since bowled 154,164,240 just in practice the day before my league. My league was tonight I bowled 190,164, and a 221 so not too bad just feel little short of 800 series. But I am seeling my BULLY to my brother-in-law if he feels it will work for him. But I won strike it rich at my league tonight for $123.00 so I can't complain let's go storm 2nd dimension is here and shredding the rack for me THANKS!!!

Today I had the chance to throw my new 2nd Dimension.
Specs: PAP 5 1/4 over 1/4 up.
Ball Layout: 5" pin w/ cg slightly kicked out
Surface: Box
Picture: (https://www.ballreviews.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh228%2FCalimon08%2FNewArsenal005.jpg&hash=331ed65e36e6df9b03ef463128cdec24e3063efb)

What I wanted:
I was looking this ball to allow me to play sharper angles than that of my Cell Pearl for when the pattern opens up. And for fresher patterns that required me to play straighter.

What I got:
When compared to my Cell Pearl, the 2nd is much more angular and retained a large amount of energy at the pocket. I used it playing anywhere from 20 to 25 out to 10 to 7 and the ball screamed its way back to the 1-3 like a seriously pissed off woman!

There were people that stopped their bowling to see just what ball I was using today...kinda weird but...it means that this ball may sell alot in my area.

Overall I see this ball being good on fresh THS and when they break down and you need to go more left to right....

I rolled this after I shot one practice game and had a lot of issues with the thumb.I always have to use tape. Finally got a good feel and shot 200,203.I made some o.k. shots and the bad ones, the ball seems quite forgiving.Had it drilled to be agressive in the back and it IS!.Once I shoot more games will tell more but as I see it now, gonna like it!

Hi all,

Im proud to present to you the Second Dimension Video From Storm.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/seconddimension.html

or here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEiKcPtyu0U

The Second Dimension is a great addition to an already solid lineup by Storm. The 2D is not your typical pearl ball. Storm has added ETM or Enhanced Traction Mica to the cover allowing the ball to traction better in the back part of the lane, even with some carrydown present.

The First 2D in this video is at the factory finish (1500 Grit Polish). This ball provides a clean look through the heads with a strong assertive move off the dry. The Continuum core inside the 2D gives me that same drive through the deck that makes the Dimension so great. It keeps the pins nice and low.

The Second 2D in this video is drilled a bit stronger and has been taken to 2000 Abralon. What I love about this ball is that this ball allows me to cover more boards than the first one while keeping that same strong assertive move off the dry. This layout/ surface gives me a similar look to my original dimension, just a little longer and stronger off the back of the pattern. This ball takes surface changes very well so don’t be afraid to change the surface if you aren’t seeing a reaction that works for you.

This ball is an excellent step down the from the Virtual Gravity and the Dimension, that will work great for many styles of bowlers.

As always questions and comments are welcome!

This ball is everything Storm promised and then some. Use a drilling of 5 x 3 with 1" pin buffer, box finish. It had 3.79 top with a 3 to 3 1/2 pin with a weight of 15lb 4oz.
It gets through the head so easy and its' midlane read with a sharp turn off the breakpoint just crushing the { 1 - 3}.
I have been able to use it on HPL surface with a 39 foot pattern and on Guardian/Wood surface with heavy oil. The Second Dimension  is a perfect partner to the Dimension. I have been able to get length without loosing midlane read or striking power.

(LAYOUT)I have this one 65 degrees 3 1/2 pin from my axis
(SURFACE)4000 Abralon no polish
(CONDITIONS) THS and Medium lenght Kegel Sport pattern

First I have to say i was on the edge of my seat waiting for the release of the SECOND DIMENSION. When laying this one out i was looking at my line-up looking for a gap to fill. I knew i needed something to fit under my Virtual Gravitys as far as overall hook and i got more than i could have asked for. This ball is no doubt my go to when the pattern gets funky because i get a smooth and strong shot shape that comes in handy when every thing is real touchy and I need to get in control again.I have not bowled an entire set with the ball on our THS because i have dedicated this ball as my go-to not my benchmark feel ball.

I had even better results on a tougher longer pattern a couple weeks ago. It gave me that confident shot shape that i got at home and didnt lose any energy . This ball bit down and gave me the friction i needed to have any kind of angle to carry. I was getting close to 6" flare and still didnt lose any energy on this long pattern so that in itself is impressive.

(OVERVIEW) I found this ball to be the right hook to the Virtual Gravity's left jab. When i cant get my Virtual to stay on line anymore the SECOND DIMENSION is there to pick up the slack and then some.Overall this is one for everybodys bag . No matter who you are or where you bowl your going to love watching this PURE rolling ball go down the lane. (P.S. IT SMELLS GREAT TOO!!)

I drilled another 2nd Dimension, and wanted to share my review and take on this ball. First off, the first one I drilled is pin and cg stacked on my grip line, pin above fingers. I love this ball on the Chameleon pattern!!! This one, I drilled pin below ring finger, 6 3/4" through cg mark on my ball track, 4000 abralon by hand, then moonshine added by use of medium speed spinner. This ball gives me the reaction that I wanted, clean through the fronts, a strong read of the mids, followed by a strong hard arch through the backend and pin deck. This drilling gives me more pattern coverage than the pin over with box finish (I have only cleaned this surface  with reacta-clean and a white scotch brite pad again, because I like the reaction so much on Chameleon). I can play up the boards when they are a little tighter, and I can chase the pattern in, or use this ball playing 3rd arrow, when usually I would want pin over, stronger layouts to corner with the proper angles and carry. This drilling on this ball is becoming my benchmark piece (currently a Dimension with same drill pattern and step three polish). This gives me more backend than said Dimension. They work great together as I use the Dimension if the backends are really flying, and the 2nd when a little more pop is needed.

To wrap things up, I can't say anything much better than stating the facts that this has become my best benchmark look, and also what I would call my 90% ball, as I will be using it 90% of the time.

SECOND DIMENSION -pin above ring finger- 4 1/2 pin to PAP, Cg kicked at 70 degrees drilled exactly same specs to DIMESINON I have. This ball took me time for me to experiment on various house shots and tournament conditions. The ball is cleaner through the heads and midlane for me and when the ball comes of the breakpoint it has very strong continuous roll. This ball on the typical house pattern needs to fine some friction around the break point in order to start the strong motion. I have hit the ball with light 4000 abralon and I seem to get the ball to read the lane a little better overall. I really like the reaction and have had success using it on a fresh 40 foot flat crown pattern(amf synthetic surface) and also using on the PBA VIPER and Scorpion pattern (Brunswick Pro Anvilane) The ball fits in the arsenal great has given me different look and shape

I drilled this ball with a 5 (pin above bridge)x 3.5 (about a 1.5 inch shift off my centerline)pin and cg from my PAP.  Surface was wet sanded with 100grit abralon and small hole 5 inches through cg from grip center. For me this ball is very strong yet very controllable.  It tends to roll very heavy and revs up very hard in the mid lane and at the breakpoint.  The flares are fairly tight and I can generally use this ball on the fresh and fight through trnasition with this ball.  Thi ball comes shined out of the box but I tend to like a little of surface on my equipment to aid in reading the dry a little smoother than with shine, its just a personal preferance, as I normally dont like drastic direction changes.  This ball is equally my favorite ball right now along with the Hy-Road.  These two balls work well together as I typically strat with the Second Dimension and then switch to the Hy-Road when the fronts start to burn up.  This ball fits perfectly between the Virtual Gravity and the Hy-Road for those looking to round out their arsenal.  I will be drilling a another Second Dimension soon so stay tuned for that review.  I will be trying a lower pin and moving the cg closer to my PAP to give me a little earlier and smoother reaction.  As for the current Second Dimension, I really am inpressed with the continuation I get after this ball makes the move.  It does not stop.  As the heads start to dry and the ball wants to check up earlier, I can simply move into the oil a little move and go away from the pocket with no doubt the the ball will recover as strongly as with the straighter angles.  The next move is to move to my similarly laid out Hy-Road and basically stand in the same spot, target the same spot and see a sharper breakpoint angle.  If you have drilled a Dimesion and are looking for something with a similar motion, the Second Dimesion will give you more bite in the oil and in the dry.  On shorter flat pltterns I often start witht the Dimension and go to the Second Dimension at the first transition of carry-down.  As I head out for the USBC championships in Las Vegas, The Second Dimension will be in the bag.

Received my Second Dimension a week ago and got the opportunity to toy with it this week.  Ball 15lb, 2.76oz top weight, 3" pin.  Picture of the ball is here...http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/88/l_a7b15ee0e1dd439397f919bdba0802d5.jpg

Was looking for a compliment to my Virtual Gravity that will get down the lane and come back strong.  I found exactly that.  Left the ball at OOB condition, gets down the lane nicely, and makes a nice hard snap left at the breakpoint.  First set with it in league netted me a 708, my 2nd 700 in the last month and a half.

Overall I'm very pleased so far.  Another great ball by Storm!

Drilled two Second Dimensions.
#1 2nd Dimension is drilled with a 5 and 1/4 inch pin to PAP below fingers, CG 4 and 1/2 inches from PAP, no hole,  finished  with 4000 abralon by hand.  Intension were to give me a a strong roll but a smoother motion in the back part of the lane.  This is exactly what I got from this ball. I really like this ball on medium length oil patters 38 to 40 feet, where I need a strong midlane read but controlled  continuation through the pins. When the lanes break down and I need to get into the oil and this ball isn't cornering enough to get the ten out, this is where #2 2nd Dimension comes into play.
#2 2nd Dimension has the same layout as #1 2nd Dimension only #2 has a Low Hole down towards the Thumb Quadrant. I have the surface at 1000 abralon with polish.  The purpose of this drill is to get the ball to rev up sooner and still continue down lane.
What I have seen from this ball is something special that no other ball in the line offers.  What makes this ball unique is the coverstock.  I don't know quite how to explain it, but when no their ball in my bag seems to give me a desired reaction, the 2nd Dimension is the ball to go to. It clears the heads so well, but still digs in the midlane and saves enough energy to continue through the pins.  If I had to compare it to another ball, the closest ball may be the Shift. However the Shift for me wasn't as good in carry down and was jumpier down lane being that it was asymmetrical and the particle made it use it's energy earlier than the 2nd Dimension.
This ball really shines on tough and sport type lane patterns.  You can stay in a zone on the lane a lot longer because the cover is so predictable and ignores transition really well,  where other balls either hook too early, or weaker balls skate too long.  It compliments the Original Dimension really well, hence having the same core.

I've had mine a months, 5X3 1" buffer, weight hole.

It's the best midlane ball I've ever had. It reads like no other ball. It's carry is way above average.

Why this ball is a must in every bag - it's also the most versatile ball I've had. I've cashed in 3 tournaments including a non THS with this ball playing from 5th arrow to up the boards at 7. I also have a 300 and a 787 with it.

And all in box condition. The 1500 grit with polish is perfect. I do not anticipate changing the surface. It can be a bit jumpy on a fresh shot so I have to be carefully, but during transition, I just throw it with confidence and never have seen it wiggle once with carrydown.

I have put 2nd Dimensions in 6 of my students and one has incresed his average 4 pins to just over 200, not an easy easy task this late in the season. I've seen bowlers in my area with ball speeds of 13mph on the low end and 20mph on the high end and all have noticed dramatic looks and reacts.

I had my Second Dimension layed out by Chris Schlemer at the Indy stop. We went with a 5 1/4 by 4 layout with cg shifted out 1 in and no hole. Changed the surface to 2000 by hand. We were trying to control backend reaction for Viper pattern. This layout allowed me to stand closer to my target and not worry about the dry at end of pattern. I love the fact how much middle lane read this ball has and still has plenty and backend. I have to say after being on staff with another company for a few yrs. Coming to Storm has been incredible.. From the great balls to the wonderful people who go out of there way to help you.

Layout:  4 3/8 pin to PAP, CG is 3 ¾ from  PAP,  Pin is 1 ½ above midline of grip.

Lane Condition: House shot, medium to heavy oil.

What type of hook?  Shiny flips hard in the backend, when you take the shine off it hooks just as much if not more than the virtual gravity. It worked fabulous at the US Open the first day recovering really well. Clean through the front at the US Open where it tends to hook early and got through the carry down.

What can I say? It's a great ball! Actually my 1st Storm ball and I love it! Pin next to ring, Cg under pin, slightly towards center grip.

Shot 235 out of the box and have since shot many 220-250 games with EASE. Ball is really clean through the heads and rolls quite heavy, but always in control. If I yank it left, it'll still hold. If I miss target right, it'll still come back...usually leaving a 4-pin. Doesn't over react for me, which is very important. Pin carry is strong and sends pins all over the place, however I still managed to miss two 5-pins even with tomahawk messengers, that I have no clue haha.

I only regret not giving Storm a try a lot earlier. Definitely won't be my last Storm ball. Cheers.

What makes this ball special? A pearl that is not afraid of oil!

The Continuum core provides that different look that separates it from a lot of balls on the market. The core flexes it's muscle in the mid lane to help improve the ability to get a read. This ball is great for those with speed too as it does not squirt through the break.

Compliments the Hy-Road well...I go to my Hy-Road when I need more angle to adjust my carry.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP at 45* PAP angle and 50* VAL angle. The pin ended up in my ring finger. I put a 7/8" - 2" deep weight hole on my VAL.

Surface: I used it box, then 2000abr by hand, then 4000abr by hand.

Purpose: I didn't have a purpose, but was more drilling something to try to compliment a Street Rod solid that stops on the back.

Initial Observations: I have thrown this on our house shot on Pro Anvillane and also in a couple of PBA regionals and one PBA National TQR. The TQR was alternating between Viper and Scorpion and the regional was on Scorpion on Pro Anvillane. On the house shots, the ball let me get right of the puddle in the friction more. I was able to keep on the edge of the friction and migrate left when needed. The minute I pinged a 10 pin, I just moved 2/1 or 3/2 left depending on how weak it hit the pocket. When the lanes started to burn, I could keep tweeking left and keep hitting the hole. On the PBA shots especially Scorpion, the pin under layout was slower off the corner and I left a lot of corners. This is a limitation of my game and release and not indicitive of the ball.

Final thoughts: With this layout, I get a controlled reaction in the mid lane and a slower response off the friction. I think I would be better off drilling a complimentary one that is pin higher with a stronger pin position like 4". This should give it the "ummph" to get around the corner more on patterns like Scorpion and Chameleon where surface and lane cross forces you left of 20.

Additional Thoughts: I had to really work on the surface with this control layout to find a happy medium. What has been working the best for me is 4000abr by hand. Storm's polished 1500 grit can be very touchy for my game and it is best for me to knock it off the surface before I even throw a ball down the lane. Once I found the correct surface for this layout, this ball got REAL GOOD on the house patterns.

Layout  5.5 x 5 no hole   pin up

axis  5 1/2 over  1/4 up
med-high revs
med ball speed
14lbs

This ball does exactly what you expect it to...rev hard and turn the corner hard.  I wasnt able to use the original dimension all that much, but this one seems to be the best ball in my bag for a THS, compared it mostly to my Rapid Fire Pearl...same layout....the SD read the lane earlier and covered about 7-8 more boards overall.  This is easily the best pearl ive drilled for any solid amount of oil!  Havent got to use on any PBA patterns, but when I do I will update.

The Second Dimension is an awesome ball. It is really clean through the front, strong in the midlane and has a hard continuous arc on the backend. I tried this ball for the first time on AMF lanes which has a THS which is usually oiled 8 to 8 and dry 8 and out but this is after a 4 man league. The only shot that made this ball look decent was deep inside and out to the dry. THe way this ball rolled was very impressive. It does remind me of the Cell from Rotogrip because of the continuous motion.

The true test was at Nationals in Las Vegas. Believe it or not this was the ball i used in all of the events most of the time. With the arching continous reacton, it was perfect. The ball got down lane with ease on the 40 ft pattern and when it hit the right spot on the backend, the carry was great.

Not only was this ball amazing at Nationals, it was the best thing at the Bowling This Month Tournament which puts out a 40ft one to one flat shot. This ball gave me the strong roll in the mids and tame backend i needed. It helped me get my best finish which is on the cashing board so far.

I am definitely going to get another one with a high pin over the fingers.

Storm has done it again. I won't be surprise if this ball in included in one of the categories for ball of the year.

Thanks to Ernest Goedicke at Storm for his help and advice.

This is the 2nd ball I have drilled.  I have the pin over the ring finger with the cg not quite stacked down from the pin.  I have a light cover of Storm Moonshine on as well.

This has been the most versatile ball that I have drilled in a long time.  I can play straight up the gutter or as deep as 5th-6th arrow crossing the whole lane.  The ball has great traction in the oil for a pearl, but it doesn't read early to let the ball hold the energy for after the midlane.

I am bowling in a PbA Experience league over the summer.  I have used this ball all four weeks, two weeks of shark and two weeks of scorpion.  It's versatility is un-matched.

Ball is a two finger drilled ball. Drilled 5 5/8 x 4 5/8 with the pin 3" above my bridge. Surface is at 2000 abralon. This ball is amazing on my pbax shark. Started playing straight on the outside and after two games was quickly playing 5 boards inside of everyone on the pattern. Very strong smooth roll with this layout and surface. Great job storm. Thanks to monty stratton at bowlers depot oceanside.

This is probably my favorite ball in my bag right now. I have used it on everything from Shark to Cheetah, and even was able to put up good scores on the US Open pattern with it. 3-3.5" pin, above the bridge, CG stacked. It is a very good benchmark ball for me, and could be dulled or polished and still be successful. When I first bought it, I bowled a tournament with it and had very good success on a 42 foot sport shot. I also used it in league over the summer and was second in average. It is very versatile and can be used with great success on either sport or house shots.

Im a lefty Tweener, with a med-high track, and high ball speed.  I have my Second Dimension drilled Pin under Middle finder, and cg in the center of the palm.  I believe the R2X Pearl w/ E.T.M coverstocked matched up with continuum core says enough.  This ball can turn on the back-end very hard, yet with the slight of hand position you can gain excellent control of that backend and be able to play just about any line the lanes are giving you.  The versatility this balls gives you once your on game 5, game 6 ect.. to get through the heads without burning up any of its energy is a valueable asset to have in any collegiate, tournament, or league bowlers arsenal.

For this Second Dimension, we drilled it with a 4 1/2 X 3 1/2 with a 2" pin buffer with the pin up. Left it at box condition and used it on our THS and a modified house pattern. This ball starts up a sooner then my REIGN, but not as early as my two MUTANT CELLS. My prior Second Dimension was a weaker in layout and at 2000 grit. What a versatile cover and core combo. I can play deeper and straighter with this ball. I love it... Best of Luck to all RG/STORM users.

I drilled this ball up about 2 or 3 months ago and have not been able to keep my hands off of it since. This is the go-to ball for me. I always use this in league and in tournaments no matter what condition. I drilled for control with a dual angle layout 65x3 1/2x65 and got exactly what I asked for. I feel the most comfortable throwing this ball because I can read the ball reaction so well. It transitions very well and gives a predictable read even with the oob surface. I didnt have to change anything on this ball with the surface. I can make the ball do different things with my hand such as speed, tilt, rev rate, the works. This is a ball I always have in my bag, and hope to get another one soon. Thank you Storm for the best ball of my bowling career so far! Even though I have only been bowling for about 2 and a half years. I have shot so well with this ball, and I don't think people expect half of the stuff I have accomplished with this ball from a youth bowler. I hope to be on staff someday, but for now I will always throw only Storm and Roto Grip!!!

I got this ball through a ball league. Have it drilled with pin 1/2 above ring finger with axis hole 4 inches out between fingertips and thumb hole. This ball reminds me of Christmas due to the smell of apple cinnamon! Overall I am getting used to this ball. It is a powerful ball! I tend to leave the ten pin standing on multiple shots. This ball does well on medium to oily conditions. I will practice with this ball more before I use it in league.

I found that this ball goes well with fresh lane oil! The ball will cross over way to fast on a dry lane. I have to adjust multiple times with this ball if the lanes change quickly. If the house threw down a fresh coat of oil, the Second Dimension reacts quickly to the pocket. I still have a hard time carrying the 10 pin if the ball hits light in the pocket. I will still keep practicing with this one. I am a stroker and tend to throw inside the third arrow. If anyone wants to recommend a Storm product that has long carry and a snappy back end please let me know. Overall the ball feels very solid and fits comfortably. I would like to try more Storm products.

Specs in profile.

The ball:
Layout 60* x 3" x 30*
600 grit paper plus polish
P2 balance hole

I've always liked particle pearls.  They seem to traction much better in the oil and not be as jumpy off the dry. I traded my Hot Sauce Pearl for this piece.

The layout on this ball gives me a quick move at the breakpoint.  I've used it on a variety of conditions, from heavy house to sport.  This balls best feature is the consistency of the reaction.  It works well for me from a variety of angles.  I can move in and play a small swing or play it up the boards.

On our old league pattern, that was much more wet/dry, the 2nd Dimension gave me a great look from just inside the oil line.  If I didn't quite catch enough track, the 2nd tractioned just enough to kick the corners.

On most sport conditions, this isn't a first ball out of the bag.  However, once a hook spot develops, this is my go-to piece.  It gives me just an extra board of carry when that happens. I used this ball to win a scratch tourney in Jan, playing 20 to 12 in match play on the Teen Masters pattern.

IMO, this ball would be a great addition to any tweeners arsenal.  Where alot of balls are just too strong or too weak for us, this ball fits the bill.

This ball is a good one to keep in your bag. I bowl on heavy oil patterns, and when the lanes start breaking down and i need to switch balls, this is the one i go to. It's less aggressive than my invasion, but more aggressive than my natural. It's the perfect combination to get the job done.

This ball is amazing. I have a pin-up one and a pin-down one and when I can't use one of them I can usually use the other. I can use it on almost anything, love, short, heavy, or dry lanes. It works on just about anything you want, change the surface and your good to go.

COMMENTS

Likes:  This ball is extremely angular off the dry.   With the mica in the cover, it is a bit stronger overall that most pearls that I throw.   Very accepting to coverstock adjustments.

Dislikes:  Leave alot of 8's and 9's for me.   Overall carry is about a8/10
