Review:
The !Q 78/u is the newest PBA compliant urethane ball. It is featuring the C3 core that was in the !Q line offering great control and versatility. Featuring a brand new cover for the changes that are going into effect for the PBA. The Controll 78 Urethane cover is a harder version of the Pitch Black cover. With the harder cover what you will find is a ball that is a smoother weaker version of a Pitch Black. The hook window for the Pitch Black is shorter and rollier compared to the !Q 78. This ball is going to be for the PBA bowlers or someone looking for a more controllable pitch black. Get yours today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop.

To all you Urethane bowling ball lovers out there...What more can I say about the new Storm !Q Tour 78-U. That controlled urethane reaction you expect...It is right here with this new ball. Very smooth predictable reaction overall. It still gives you that typical urethane shape even with the hardness being higher and still featuring the the C3 Core, If you are in the market for an new urethane ball, look no farther than the iQ Tour 78U. Mine is drilled pretty aggressive, I love the flare this ball gets and its fun to throw when you need it, or just to have some fun!

This ball has that controlled, early urethane reaction with the hardness compliance of the PBA tour in 2024. Very smooth predictable reaction which is very comparable to the Pitch Black.

Imagine a down-and-in player successfully using a urethane ball on a THS. Well, leave it to Storm to develop the !Q Tour 78-U and answer that question with an emphatic yes! The !Q Tour 78-U combines Storm's proven C3 Centripetal Control Core and the Controll 78 Solid urethane cover, and it is a brilliant combination. And if you wonder why, Storm put the extra L in the Controll 78-U. It is because control is what makes the !Q Tour 78 an excellent Storm urethane release. So, let's take a closer look at what makes the !Q 78-U a winner to add to your arsenal.

The C3 Centripetal Control Core is a proven smooth and predictable industry staple. Its benchmark style roll and uniformity make it a fantastic choice for the !Q Tour 78-U. Being a straighter player, I can depend on the C3 Core to rev smoothly in the mid-lane without burning up its energy. And its consistent and predictable motion off the pattern helps me maintain a repeatable line all night without going out of my comfort zone. But the best part of the C3 is it retains its energy very well. So, unlike other symmetrical cores that flat- ten for a straighter player like me, the C3 Centripetal Control Core has an impressive continuation, creating the difference between strikes and leaving pocket nine-counts. So, if you're a straighter player like me, the C3 Centripetal Control Core is an excellent choice for the !Q Tour 78-U.

Let's talk about the Controll 78 urethane coverstock. The 78 stands for the hardness, equating to a PBA-compliant urethane cover -period! So, now let's talk about how it reacted on the lanes. I found the Controll 78-U to do what its name claims- control! On a THS, urethanes aren't the best choice for a straighter, high-speed player like me. However, with the Controll 78-U, I found a great line just right of the shim and loved how the 78-U stayed stable and smoothly rolled through the entire lane.

Further, I found the 78-U works best with a blend of oil and friction. And although with its 500-grit Abralon surface, the 78-U reads early, it is very predictable. So, I can see how the !Q Tour 78-U would be an excellent choice for short patterns or late-night THS conditions. So, if you're a down-and-in player like me, and enjoy playing the first to second arrow, then Controll 78-U is the right urethane choice for your arsenal!

Ultimately, I was impressed with the new Storm !Q Tour 78-U. And I would say for any straighter, down-and-in player like me looking for a urethane ball to fill their arsenal, look no further because the !Q Tour 78-U is an excellent choice. So, stop into your local Storm VIP Pro Shop and add the !Q Tour 78-U to your arsenal today. It's a perfect choice for your urethane ball!

Everyone please repeat after me - Urethane is NOT for dry lanes it’s for control.  Short oil, yes… dry lanes, no.  Another thing to clarify, as of right now, the only need for 78 Hardness urethane is for PBA events (including regional, PBA50, PBA50 Regional, and PBA Jr. events).  This does NOT change the minimum hardness for USBC leagues or tournaments.  I hear a lot of misinformation out there about this.  For now, you can keep using your Pitch Blacks and other urethane balls in league.
As a lower rev rate player, I don’t use urethane a lot, typically only used for very short oil patterns and shots that require controlling the back end motion - Urethane excels at that.  I was curious what the additional hardness would do to the Urethane cover, especially paired with the iconic C3 core.  The low RG of the C3 core and Urethane are a match made in heaven, the ball rolls early and is stable and consistent off the back end.  The core does flare, which minimizes the amount of oil that the ball can deposit on the back end, so it doesn’t seem to cause carry down issues like traditional low-flaring urethane balls do.  While it may not be required unless you’re bowling PBA events, I think the iQ 78/U deserves consideration with the Pitch Black if you’re in the market for a urethane ball.

My Specs -
Speed - 16 mph,
Rev Rate - 315.
PAP 5 1/8 x 7/8 Up.
