$300 Pink HyRoads....only 300 made
« on: September 05, 2017, 01:30:21 PM »
In case you have not seen the special HyRoads being built to order. Storm is only producing 300 total (not per weight, we are talking a total of 300) for $300 each with at least 50% of the cost going to breast cancer research.

Balls went on sale at 12 MST (2 PM EST) today.

Agreed. I ponied up the $300 with no qualms for such a good cause. Someone special in my life fighting this right now...so this hits home.

Even though I survived the jeers from throwing a pink ball (Lane 1 Pink Panther) and if I didn't have a credit card bill to worry about, I would scoop up one of these in a heartbeat.

Hopefully all proceeds actually go to the research and not to one of those charities where like 95% of donations go to payroll instead of actual science.

I'm not saying it is in this case b/c I don't know.........just saying that I hope it does go to actual science.

If they are using the color pink to raise money, you can be sure of where it's going. Otherwise, Koman will sue their a$$ off.

For good OR for bad.

Susan Komen foundation keeps upwards of 80% of the proceeds. The NFL is worst with the whole month of Pink, they keep upwards of 90% of the money. Capitalism, gotta love it.

Not going to Komen based on a Facebook post by Leanne H. Someone asked on the Storm post and she responded....don't remember off the top of my head the foundation but it is NOT Komen.

On edit....Found her post. Leanne stated in response of who the money is being donated to that the charity is Huntsman Cancer Institute.

"At Storm, we are committed to supporting many life-changing causes including Breast Cancer Research. October officially is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Help join the fight, for every PTLP product purchased we will donate a portion of the proceeds to these vital breast cancer research supported foundations (Huntsman Cancer Institute and Striking Against Breast Cancer Foundation)."

Copied directly off the Storm web site promoting their Paint the Lanes Pink items.
Oh, and by the way, the pink Hy-roads are sold out.

Do you get to use it as a write off since it is partly a donation?

Good question.  I thought about asking the same question when I was thinking of buying one.

Nope, you just get to pay Storm. Storm gets the write-off cause they're making the actual donation.

Unless you really must have a Pink ball, I'd buy the Hy-Road from any internet dealer for $120; then make a  $180 donation to whichever charity you'd like to. Then you have a tax write-off and that charity will get $180, not just $150.

I'm really mixed on this.  Most cancer "research" is just a cash cow where like northface says, most of the money goes to the organization, and most of the entire cancer industry in all forms is just making money off sick and dying people, people have literally made careers in the cancer industry.  Now, I can get on board with awareness, and early detection, and prevention, but at the same time, part of that is that the earlier they find it, the more money they can make off somebody, because once someone dies, well there goes the money train from them.  Not to mention they already have a couple different cures for it.  Cancer cells contain an abnormal amount of the protein CD47, which is a protein found on the surface of red blood cells which prevents the body's macrophages from eating them.  Over time, the protein is slowly lost as the cell ages, until the macrophages can destroy the cell, making room for new blood cells.  Cancer cells have so much of the protein on their surface that the macrophages will never be able to eat the cell, but researchers have found if they block CD47 on the cancer cells that the macrophages will go right in and destroy the cancer cells.

There are also a few other treatments, one in Sweden that will never be tested, and a doctor in Houston has a treatment, but all these treatments have a lot of opposition, because if they surface, the billion dollar a year cash cow disappears, and way too many people are way too comfortable with the way things are.  I personally don't like it and I try to stay out of the whole "pink" month thing, but whatever.  It's good PR for whoever does it, and it makes those who donate feel good about themselves, so the people who actually have cancer are just a device for everyone else to use for their own benefit.  Storm got pretty raked by everyone on Facebook over the deal.
