Storm ball for house league

Is it true that if you only intend to bowl in house league, you don't actually need those high end balls from the premium and master line, balls from thunder and below lines are sufficient.

Depends on how you throw it, but also what kind of house shot you're facing, etc.  I threw nothing but strong equipment last night because I needed to stay in the oil, or the ball would roll out instantly because the dry was drier than normal, so I threw a polished Cell, a dulled Gravity Shift, and a lightly polished Second Dimension in three games, changing balls each game since the inside part of the lane was seeing so much use.  However, in other leagues also on house shots, I'll use my Spit Fire all three games getting it out into the friction and snapping it back.  And I'm a lower rev guy.  The key is managing friction relative to your release and your equipment.  How you do that is entirely up to you.

I agree w/everything said so far.  I also think it's what you prefer & what you match up w/best.  In my league it's all over the board w/the high scores from Tropicals to Twisted Fury's to VG's to Scouts, heck, to even house balls, LoL.  And old balls to new balls.  Everyone has their own style & confidence level w/particular balls.

As it does in so many other sports, and life, it mainly depends on ability.  Whether it is a sports car or a bowling ball it all depends on what you can do with it.  If you can play multiple lines (down five and 5th arrow for examples) and not just the track then the mid priced stuff is all one normally needs.  The key word is normally.

For instance a Furious, Hyroad, Fast would allow you to handle almost every THS around and score exceptionally well.  However, there will be some nights that you could really benefit from a Virtual or a Natural, but overall that should be all you need.

Are you talking 1 ball or like a 3 ball arsenal.. If you are talking 1 ball I could go with just my sure fire..  But if it's 3 balls you could go with any of the lines.. Troad, hy-road, troad pearl... Or natural, fast, furious you have a lot of options

For the 90% case, yes.
Depends more on the ability of the house to maintain the lanes and on the bowler's ego, than it does on the bowler's ability.

Actually there is this bowler in our league that have all 3 of the "HOT" ball...Furious to start the league then finished off with FAST most of the time. And he actually used the NATURAL as his spare ball, telling us that in this way, he carry one less ball and the NATURAL is for rainy days when the lane behaviour is weird.
He said to him, these 3 balls will be more then enough for him to travel around for his league. He keeps his high end balls for tournament. He actually average around 210 with them in our league.

For a house shot, a good bowler could get by with any type ball and average 200 plus. I have seen a couple of guys that can pick up a house ball and shoot 220, that average 230-240 in our league. One of the guys set the state record for league average, and it was on the toughest shot in the city. He played with what he had, mostly a complete nv and a bunch of older balls.

For us wannabees, we generally do more harm than good by purchasing and trying to play all of the newest releases, most of which are too strong for the average house shot. I have a Virtual Gravity and Rogue Cell, both at OOB, and I have yet to find a place to use them in our league. Last night I tried the VG the first game, and shot a depressing 171, playing inside and outside, leaving seven pins (2), one eight pin, 2 tens and a split. Pulled out the HyRoad and shot decent for me the second and third, 190s, but still not good, because I was so far off from fighting with the VG the first game.

Norm Duke played with the HyRoad about as much as anything else I saw him throw last year, and you know he could have thrown anything he wanted to. The Frankly, I think he should have thrown it more. The stronger covers really need oil to shine.

So I would answer your question, yes, it is true, you don't need the high end balls to play THS.
